He definitely had the same hand placement like Aang did. And he definitely did take the bending away. Oh my, they really are going all out!

I isn't necessarily the same technique but it seems to do the same thing.
The cynic in me will say its all a ploy and everyone is acting somewhat. Mainly because Bolin was saved before he could be subjected to it.

Well we got proof of both Mako bending Lightning and Amon dodging it, it just didn't happen at the same time

But either way, Amon's fighting abbilities, as well as the Equalits's is very impressive.
Metal bending police. With the dissolution of the royal family I am assuming advanced bending techniques became 'public' knowledge.
They aren't in the same class as Aang and gang that's for sure.

Their fighting is much more refined to their closed spaces.
You need to be agile if you're going to face Amon's goons.
Of course, not saying the thugs did well in that aspect...can't say for sure.
I don't know. Would a Basketball player put up a better fight than street thugs against trained unarmed forces?

Pro bending and free fighting are very different styles. Amons Goons learn how to fight free form, Probenders have to follow a bunch of rules.

The two chi blockers sequences for an animation fan is just dropping the mic and walking away. You can only hope to ever top that level of artistry.
Why would it be. The short term gain is obvious (to curry favor with the common man) but it would effect his spirit bending I imagine and it would only hurt his character to 'common thug' status if it were just a lie. I think it is just more interesting and it justifies his actions if his story were true.

Why did everyone take Amon's powers to cause permanent loss of bending powers? Chi blockers do the same, but temporarily (of course). I guess they took him at face value because he didn't touch a bunch of pressure points... but it still seems fishy to me.

Hey i've seen crazier people plot together for the greater good (aka helping themselves).
As for the second sentence: Yea his team looks pretty crazy right now.
to be fair Bolin just entered the scene and they could have time way before that to get it down. Also it would have made a greater impact if he really took Bolin's (or attempted to) so we could have a "first hand" view but since he's needed for the fireferrets he got some plot armor.
As i said its just me being cynical though and i hope its true since the revelation will be more interesting imo
Sounds like an excuse/sob story to get the people on his side plus not question his mask imo but hey you never know.

It would be easy enough to verify though. I mean for the most part he took high profile targets. Pretty sure it would be known if crime syndicate dude started bending again.
We all know his father is actually Aang.

never underestimate old people in this universe (White Lotus, Hama,etc) so..
Its stuff like this why i want his "gift" to be true as it could go well with the spiritual section of the show

I would hate this exact scenario, but wouldn't put it under the show.
Part of me thinks that's interesting, but how would they do a whole half-season (at the very least) in the spirit world?
I have no doubt that Book Two will be Spirit, but I'm not so sure Korra will lose her bending.

Yea they could do it so she keeps it but needs the spirtual side for the Avatar state/Energybending/Explain if Amon was really legit about the spirits talking to him, giving him the gift, etc.
Plus say her having bending while everyone else doesn't could be mental challenge for her since it could be seen as her failing in dealing with the issue at hand as the Avatar.
It has some interesting paths imo.
