The onus is on the smaller guys to get inside and trying to negate the reach, but that's much easier said that done, especially when you've got a guy that uses his reach so well to control distance. In that video with Rashad Evans calling the Jones-Rampage fight, he kept criticizing Rampage for "playing Jones' game" and not forcing himself inside more, but he did the exact same thing tonight.
That vid is here, btw:

People can't even take Jones down, because not only does he have good strength and a solid wrestling base, but he can control range so well that guys have to shoot on him from a distance.
What was particularly impressive tonight is that even when it got in close, and they started playing patty-cake, Jones was murdering Rashad with those unorthodox short-range standing elbows. And he was doing it with great consistency. He also demonstrated in earlier fights that he is a beast in the clinch, so he is quite effective at both long and short ranges.
Nobody is unbeatable but it's difficult to see Jones losing by anything other than a big hit, whether that's a big kick or a big punch. Something that either knocks him out flat or dazes him enough that the other guy can pounce. He isn't getting outmuscled at 205 and he isn't going to be thoroughly outstruck; this is probably not a guy who will be losing a decision in that division. Whoever beats him will have to finish him.
That's why Hendo has a shot if he can land that big right, but he is going to go in there with a hilarious
13.5 inch reach disadvantage. So uh, good luck with that.
