Then why bother posting about it?

I made the post before I realized people were having a fight over it.
That's quite the feat.
I started like 20 pages back so I wouldn't be spoiled on Episode 3 since I was watching it as I went through the thread, simulating a live thread.
what i like about this show is that yeah, they say korra lacks restraint in one of the first few lines of it, but they go ahead and show her impulsiveness and impatience through the writing of her character. she's very reactive in a lot of scenes where she's challenged in some way:
1. tells the equalist-rally guy he's oppressing himself
2. shoots the water back in the guy's face and knocks him the fuck down
3. does the 'i have my eyes on you' gesture back to lin in a super-exaggerated way
4. tells tenzin he's a terrible teacher when she is confronted with being unable to learn airbending easily
5. 'YOU deal with it'
(and probably more)
and then there's the recurring excuse of looking for the bathroom, the one go-to she has despite it not working out.
it's nice to see this part of her personality reflected outside of fight scenes where it's going to definitely be an issue.
Browsing through the tail-end of Bryan's Blog
I think I take that sort of stuff for granted when I really should be more appreciative. Korra's character arc is really obvious, but it's such a treat to watch the execution of it. Pretty much every reaction she has to her surroundings just fits with a sheltered, pampered, hot-headed but good-hearted girl who is seeing the world for the first time.
It kinda makes you wonder why Aang did this and what the hell was he thinking.

I'm sure it was out of good intentions. He probably felt that he didn't have enough time to finish his work in Republic City and wanted to get the Avatar up to speed ASAP. He would also value security and dedicated training for Korra so that she wouldn't have to go through what he did, and be thrown right into a chaotic and unbalanced situation. He couldn't have known that Korra would pretty much be his exact opposite in temperament.
Pretty much this.
I know the Avatar has the same spirit as the planet, but I wonder if that 'spirit' also encompasses 'personality' so that the only possible changes are nurture-based, or if it only extends to the spiritual power necessary to power bending and each Avatar has their own distinct personality, seperate from all other avatars. Certainly I see a lot of Aang's impulsiveness in Korra, but Aang always had it tempered by his upbringing, the genocide of his people, and the general situation of the world. Korra's world is far more stable.

I was thinking about using the Ba Sing Se one but I like my Dead Space avy. Go nuts.
So he's a vigilante at best.
Did they say that he actually said to keep her cloistered the way she was? I remember the line about Avatar Aang having tasked the Order to keep her safe, but maybe he didn't mean it like that?
I'd have to rewatch to be sure.
Actually he is painted as a.villain in some arcs but that's another topic.Yes, like Batman.
Except Batman isn't painted as a villain so nobody ever thinks his methods are wrong.
i keep watching the scene from when korra goes to create the distraction through the escape on naga over and over. i love the cuts between that and amon getting closer to removing bolin's bending, the way we only see the guard's wrench come into view, how it cuts to just korra's eyes looking down at the weapon and then up to the guy, going into fight mode in a split-second, and how she doesn't use any superpowers to knock him out.
and then bolin isn't taken by mako at first, but an equalist- which was a small 'oh shit' moment because almost 100% of the time it's the rescuer grabbing the kidnapped person, how their escape leads to a complete ass-kicking, and how korra blindsides the guy. all the while the music from the earlier fight scene turns into something quieter but more triumphant as she stands in the night light of the city.
just masterful. i'm going to regret posting this because it makes me sound like i have mental problems, but i seriously enjoy the level of quality in this show. so good.

It's kind of weird how little Lin and the Metalbenders are doing about the the whole Anti-bender criminals.

This is a big big reason that so many people adore the original series as well.
There's a level of detail that is simply not present in most media, that is done so wonderfully in this series. Almost like the writers and animators are working side by side for every frame and saying "Well we should make his little finger twitch to indicate nervousness". It's one of those shows that, the more you watch, the deeper everything becomes. It's a complex world with its own set of strict rules and it's simply unheard of for a "children's" show.
did they commit any crimes before they kidnapped the Triad members?

i think it's just damn good television all-around, children's show or not. thing is, it's so hard to actually convince people this is that level of quality.
i was on the other side of this for a long time. i remember being surprised that so many parents were talking about it when i worked at gamestop, and that people here seemed to enjoy it a lot. i caught the end of one episode once and it didn't do anything for me. the not-anime anime look turned me off, thanks to years of stuff like teen titans. it wasn't until i was literally stuck in a room with nothing better to do while someone else had season 3 on that i was hooked.
once you see the show, it's easy to get why other people like it. but it's still hard to convince others, especially with it resembling anime and being on nickelodeon.
It's implied they've attacked benders before since Mako of who the chi-blockers were and what they were capable of.
Such a good show, I enjoy it almost more than game of thrones. There are very few shows, Animated or otherwise, that are directed as well as this one episode. We've now had three episodes in a row that surpass 95% of everything else on TV in terms of quality across the board.
No, you don't sound like a mental patient, you sound like someone with good taste.

So now English/Latin alphabet is used in the Avatar world as well as Chinese characters?
And I think I'll take the Republic City poster as an avatar.
It kinda makes you wonder why Aang did this and what the hell was he thinking.
Well with the increase in technology, the state of scientific knowledge has also increased, so the fact that animals are mostly water will become common knowledge and all it will take is a curious waterbender to rediscover blood bending.
It revolves around an assassin/hitman notoriously known as Blood Moon. Lin Beifong's informants have gathered underworld rumors of the assassin recent arrival at Republic City's ports. He only strikes during the full moon, and he never fails. With seven days before the next full moon this can only mean one thing! Korra works with the Metalbending Corps to try and discover who is Blood Moon's next target and do what's never been done before - stop him.
Have the remaining crime lords finally had enough of Amon's movement and placed a contract on him, or perhaps even Korra herself....?!
The thing is, Aang stayed with the airbenders and their lack of protection would've been the death of the Avatar if he didn't run away like he did.
I'm sure the thought of a central training location with the respective bending masters coming there to the Avatar was a much better idea than risk travel. At the same time, Aang was a person all about freedom so this may be the workings of the White Lotus instead of Aang himself after he died. But with Katara being okay with it I still would bank on the former.
Such a good show, I enjoy it almost more than game of thrones.
