Such a great and beautiful game and its not in HD makes me wonder what the studio will do with the Wii U. Its a shame how some people view this gem with their Graphical Whorey Eyes.
Ah, well. Stop by the NFL thread. Eznark is your biggest fan, and it would mean the world to him.
I have a question.
Why are you telling Nintendo to "shit or get off the pot" when clearly, (a) the Wii hardware is done and finished, there's really nothing Nintendo can do to change that and (b) the Wii U is coming out this year that's finally bringing in Nintendo's HD era.?
Of course not, it doesn't have an Emotion Engine in it.
I'm not sure if he's misguided or not conveying his thoughts correctly, but it sounds like he's arguing here that the Wii isn't capable of facial animation. That's not true. They could easily have subbed in different models for the cutscenes and had them be a fair bit more expressive; that's a completely trivial process and in no way something that would be limited by the Wii hardware. Heck, they could just go with FMV cutscenes and be done with it (and then it'd be just like how FF7 conveyed emotion! He'd be overjoyed by that!)
They *chose* not to do that; most likely due to financial constraints. Being on more powerful hardware would not have changed those financial constraints.

It's just a flawed argument. The Wii is what it is.
It's like saying you really enjoyed driving a 1986 Ferrari, yet it really blows that it isn't a 2012 Ferrari. Because in 2012 they gooooo faaaaaster. So therefore the 1986 Ferrari is totally worthless (even though you had fun in it).
Good luck finding itAh, well. Stop by the NFL thread. Eznark is your biggest fan, and it would mean the world to him.
The Wii is more like Honda Civic
I can greatly understand the desire for games to be better than they are visually. It's why PC port delays bother me so much. It's basically just like any other delay.
But despite my copy of Assassin's Creed Whatever on 360 not being the best it could be, I don't actually think about that when playing the game. If you do, that's fine. But not everyone has that same...prioritization, I guess.
To put it another way, I really loved Kid Icarus. I was not intensely bothered that it did not have Vita graphics.
we all are, just some of us lie about it more than others. Even if you are hardcore retro and don't like "new" games graphics - you'll still have a level of graphics whorism on your platform of choice.
@Venfayth - My overall point is that I love Xenoblade. I think it's an amazing game. It just hurts me to see these landscapes and ideas and KNOW that the technological capability exists to realize them even more epically. For me, Xenoblade is a 9.5 out of 10. With current gen graphics it would be an 11 out of 10.
I'm also sad at what Nintendo has turned into. I grew up with the NES and SNES, and I remember when Nintendo was a pioneer not just in gaming, but in gaming hardware. In my personal opinion, and again it's just my opinion, it seems they've sold out when it comes to pushing that hardware envelope in order to focus on a different demographic, and quite a few games have suffered as a result. Has it worked for them as a business? Undoubtedly. Doesn't mean I have to like it.
I can agree with this. I don't know if I'd say I'm "sad" about it, but it would be nice to see them focus on hardware a bit more than they have. The Gamecube was pretty powerful, though, so it's not like they've been putting out weak systems since the SNES.
Final Fantasy VII is a bit of an overstatement, but Xenoblade could've at least helped dig the genre out of its grave in the US.
But alas, we're still mired in NIS/Gust/Idea Factory shit.
Agreed, I just used NES and SNES to establish how far back I've been playing Nintendo productsBoth the N64 and Gamecube continued to try to push that envelope, but then they kind of threw in the towel.

nes was pretty underpowered machine
so was snes compared to other contemporaries like the neo geo
it was stronger than the genesis and the tg16 which launched like 2 years earlier, woopie doo!

it's kinda like a bigger final fantasy xii so i like it.
i also liked final fantasy xii.

@Game-Biz - Because from everything I've seen, Nintendo is putting current-gen graphics capabilities in what is supposed to be a next-gen system. I don't like it, and I don't think it's going to work out for them. Sure you'll have the people that stick around for the first party titles (and I'll probably be one of them), but it's a lot harder to sell a tablet to grandma than it is a waggle-stick. If grandma wants a tablet, she can get an iPad. It may be too late in the development process to change it, and if so that's a shame, because Nintendo owns a lot of IP's that deserve better visual realizations of their universe than they're going to get.
@nucklett -. It's just frustrating to know that it could have been a *better* game; especially when it's a game with the kind of scope like Xenoblade, and I think after a long enough time, enough people will become fed up with it that Nintendo as a company will suffer as a result.
Nintendo isn't targeting these people who expect superior graphics. Its obvious their primary target are families and younger gamers as evidenced by their use of colorful mascots and wholesome first party lines. You reach a level of diminishing returns with this core group of people because they simply aren't interested in HD gaming or rendering Crysis on full graphics. You'd be charging them a premium and excluding a bunch of customers that might adopt Nintendo's system as a result. Use less intensive hardware for cheaper and mom and dad are likely to buy the $150 system over the $400. Its a good business rule to know your audience and to produce what sells. Nintendo is doing this and theres nothing wrong with that.
Its clear Nintendo has a very distinct direction they want to head in. The sooner people accept that and either move on or go with the flow the better off they will be. A bunch of twenty somethings raging nostaglic on the internet is embarrassing to all gamers.
"I honestly believe that Xenoblade Chronicles could have been this generations Final Fantasy VII"
O Dear God no![]()
Really? Then why is every report that the WiiU being less capable than PS360 savagely attacked and derided? Obviously, there is a pent up demand from their fans and customers for more powerful hardware.
With that kind of scale? I'm not so sure. It's funny, though, as I played through Xenoblade, I kept thinking, "man, remember when console games had stable framerates and didn't give me motion sickness?" and that impressed me way more than a lot of HD console games!

Bahahaha we got a shoutout from the man himself

Personally, I couldn't play Xenoblade. I dunno if it was just a shitty TV I was playing on or what, but some of the game was just too hard to see. I'll try playing it again on a different TV or two that I have around the house, and if all else fails, I will try and play it on Dolphin, because those Dolphin shots people put up on the first page are GORGEOUS.
@WanderingWind He never tried to punt (sadly, it would've been hilarious to watch), and no. I had him pose with the cards because I thought it would be a funny juxtaposition.
@Diablos54 Critical popcorn hit! You have contracted Itchy Throat.
@Kusagari Will do so tomorrow.
@Seda After I finish with the fine folk in here![]()
So I guess you must've thought the Game Boy was a piece of shit compared to the Game Gear? You're equating processing power to gaming hardware when that's short-sighted. In terms of gaming hardware that is actually RELEVANT to gameplay mechanics, Nintendo is still pioneering the industry. From back to the D-Pad, shoulder buttons, analog stick, four controller ports built into the system, rumble technology, wireless controllers, touch screen, motion controls, etc. You cite a weakness when it's their greatest strength because according to what you said, graphics are the only thing that matter.
So with your article you stated that 480p graphics on your big screen HDTV weren't good enough and now that the successor system is going to be launching this year, suddenly the current generation technology isn't going to be good enough for your eyes for the next few years? What kind of TV technology do you see coming out within the next five years that will blow away the HDTV's of today? Not to mention you only know Nintendo's gameplan for the next generation. With how much money Sony has lost on the Playstation 3 and the fact that the Vita is failing to establish itself in the market I wouldn't expect them to make any kind of leaps in terms of graphical capability for the Playstation 4. Sony cannot afford to bleed anymore money with cutting edge hardware.
Every single game could be made better for whatever reason(s), almost 6 years after the Wii launched complaining about its limitations isn't newsworthy at all. If I write an article about how Sony failed with the PSP and the UMD format and you can help me get it published for Game Informer?
Lol. Would Xenoblade be possible without breaking the bank on an HD system.
We have great reading comprehension, it's just your writing sucks. Like, it's pretty bad. A couple guidelines for you if you're reading this and thinking of continuing writing articles:
1. Don't ever use all caps. Ever. No matter the case. Even for posts on an internet forum... most of the time.
2. Don't ever use things like *sigh* or <deep breath>. I think this comes down to you thinking we're more invested in you and your article than we actually are. We don't care you're taking an imaginary deep breath. Get to the point.
3. Swears and words like "poop" should be avoided, unless you're really gunning for that 11-14 year old audience.
With just these three things, the article becomes passable by video game journalism standards. That is to say not good, but at least readable and it gives your premise a lot more clout.
Oh good, you are here. See above.

One day I hope to be a good poster like you![]()
This passes for an article? Are they hiring GameFAQs posters as writers now?
I mean it's so bad he actually uses all caps to express himself
Where, at any point, did I say graphics was the only thing that mattered? I suppose I'll have to lump you in with the rest of the people that need reading comprehension lessons. What I said, was that Xenoblade is an amazing game that is hampered by the technical limitations forced upon it by the Wii. In every aspect EXCEPT graphics Xenoblade is awesome. However, the visual vision (alliteration!) the developers tried to realize is severely restricted by what the Wii simply cannot do, and it's frustrating because the game deserves better. When I see mouths moving like fish, it pulls me out of the immersion of the game. When I see the titans fighting during the opening sequence, it fails to instill the grandeur of just how large they really are that you get later on in the game because the Wii flat out sucks at portraying it. When I see fuzzy blurry characters I feel like I need to get my eyes checked because technology has progressed to the point where I'm accustomed to a certain level of visual quality. And all current reports on the Wii U indicate that Nintendo is going to go right on doing the same thing.
As for why did I write the article? Well, it's because I'm tired of Nintendo relying on Mario and Link to sell outdated hardware, and if no one speaks up, nothing ever gets changed. You're free to disagree with me. By all means do so. But at least try to comprehend what I've written instead of jumping on the "LOL GRAFIX HORE" bandwagon.
Lol, I'm far from a good writer and even further from a well-written poster. But I try.
I also don't make my living from writing words.Just code.
