This does not make any sense. I don't even know where to begin. "Relegated to kitschy ideas"? Does that mean you want him in a "gritty realistic world" or something? The Mario franchise has been pretty damn good on Wii, this sort of complaint really just baffles me. "Temple of brown textures"? Can you please point out which temple you're talking about? If you're talking about the Arbiter's Grounds (which was the best temple in that game), the brownness is likely due to being in a desert with lots of sand...
And most importantly, even if these were truthful statements and valid complaints, they would not be solved at all by being on a more powerful system (with the exception of the "jagged edges"). Does this writer think there are no games with brown textures on the 360 and PS3? Give me a break. And would Mario being on a more powerful platform rid these games of their "kitchyness"?
Honestly, this article reads like a kid throwing a tantrum with no (or very few) valid arguments to back him up. It's fine to criticize Nintendo's decision to go underpowered with the Wii: I think we all wish they'd decided to go with a higher-performance system. But this is truly the most obnoxious way to go about making this criticism. Nintendo doesn't owe you anything. They're the ones who made the Mario and Zelda games in the first place, so you've got no right to launch an invective at them for "holding these games back." As far as Xenoblade goes, do you think that Monolith could have even created the game with that size team if it were on a higher-powered platform?
If this were on some kid's blog or something I wouldn't give it a second though, but the fact that a (somewhat) major publication has run this piece really surprises me, and lowers my opinion of it.
I need to get around to playing them. At least Dark Souls.
It dares to offer slight criticism of something that is much hyped and loved by a segment of people on the internet, some of which feel the need to a) discredit the critic by whatever means, and b) shore up any wavering doubts that there was ever any room for criticism to begin with. Not exactly a new trend. The guy made the mistake of thinking adding some sugary sentiment would somehow make it more accepted by that segment.
Meanwhile, the "Games journalism!" thing has now come full circle.

Its as much of a crime as saying that Dark Souls would be alot better if the world reacted and looked technically as good as Crysis on Ultra high with super high-rez texture packs on.
I mean, of course its true. But would the game be the same if it the team behind it started the project with these technical benchmarks in mind?

i gave demon's souls the good ol' college try (about 9-12 hours or somewhere in there) and it didn't grab me. but dark souls is supposed to be open-world from what i hear, and that's pretty appealing, even if it's still supposed to be as hard as demon's souls.

I didnt realize i was arguing against a group of people. I'm just questioning the validity of the argument that the best things about every Wii game would still remain intact if the system was as powerful as its HD competitors AND, of course, without all those graphical limitations.
Its nice to want perfect things, but were is the HDJRPG that rivals Xenoblade's scope?

If anything, the limitations in place helped make this game what it is. Why do some people think it would be as vast as it is now if it was on the PS3/360 given the time and cost it took to develop? It wouldn't, hence part of the reason why there hasn't been anything like it this gen (While last we had DQ8 which was the only DQ of the generation, and FF XII, which was plagued with development issues.)

I agree too. Whenever I think about the Zelda series, while the games are still really good, I am always left wondering what they could have done with a more powerful console.

While a more capable Wii would have been nice, especially in terms of performance and features, for the most part he makes it sound like Monolith Soft (and the Wii) did their jobs visually. But it is sort of sad to see someone get so upset about underwhelming graphics concerning a experience that hinges on the gameplay, which is amazing in Xenoblade. Maybe I'm just too old and have bigger things to care about though.
And Skies, yes. Considering it's my 2nd favorite game and your avatar, I'm surprised I forgot about it...
Dark is definitely more accessible and easy to the newcomer.

I honestly don't see what's so bad about what he said. He thinks the game is amazing but wishes the graphics were better. Nothing wrong with that IMO.

Well, you could form an argument for Link's Awakening, as I hinted above. It doesn't even have colours, which it could have had on the SNES!

I totally agree with this article. I love this game, but it looks like shit on my 46 inch.

I don't see the point of wishing Wii games were HD in 2012. The console will have been out for six years by the time the world ends in a few months. There's a new Nintendo console coming most likely this year with HD graphics. What exactly is the point of complaining that the Wii isn't an HD-capable system? What is his argument here? That there shouldn't be Wii games?

Personally, I couldn't play Xenoblade. I dunno if it was just a shitty TV I was playing on or what, but some of the game was just too hard to see. I'll try playing it again on a different TV or two that I have around the house, and if all else fails, I will try and play it on Dolphin, because those Dolphin shots people put up on the first page are GORGEOUS.

Maybe not a majority i guess but there was definately a sizable percentage with a clear uptick in adoption rate at that point. Not such a small amount that you might think HDTV might not stick in the future.

I am currently playing through Xenoblade and it is an amazing game.
But it is screaming to be on an HD platform.
You look at that shit-stain FF XIII, it has terrible world exploration, plot, and pretty much everything else. Except the graphics. They are some of the most jaw dropping graphics I have seen this generation.
Imagine Xenoblade with FF XIII level of graphics. Some of the stuff in the game is gorgeous, and what they do with the system is great, but being able to play it on a whole other level would have been something else. It would have been the perfect package. A game with very little flaws.
I have gotten used to the graphics, but some of this stuff is still distracting. Faces for instance are quite terrible. 480p resolution is also bad. Lots of things up close are very jagged. Some textures look like they have just been stretched.
Don't get me wrong, I am glad this game exists and I am having a hell of a time. But a game with such beautiful art and expansive environments, you cant help but wonder what the game would look like on the PS3/360.
