The obvious ones to include would be, imo:
Snake/Raiden
Lara Croft
Crash Bandicoot
Spyro
Cloud Strife

I REALLY hope the gameplay footage isn't like a .60 second footage with the game dev talking over it and then a commercial break going back to some DLC for portal 2.

Why all the hate for Fat Princess? It's one of the better PSN games in the store.
They said there was going to be lots of gameplay. Plus IGN will probably have some additional stuff afterwards.
I just feel Fat Princess isn't a big enough deal to get a character slot for the first game. Especially if there's only going to be 20-24 characters. I would rather have another big character or another more obscure PS1 era character.

I know it's impossible from a cross-licensing perspective, but a proper AAA game in the spirit of MUGEN would be awesome.

But you have to represent someone from every brand of PlayStation. You have to have PS1 characters, PS2 characters, PS3 characters, and at least one PSN character. If not Fat Princess, who from PSN would you include? And if there's already Parappa, which is awesome, there doesn't need to be many more obscure characters. Fat Princess is still a pretty relevant and popular character.

That's a good point I hadn't thought of, actually. I suppose Fat Princess would be a pretty good choice to rep PSN. The Journey guy would be a good choice too, but that game may be too new for them to have taken it into consideration.

Sometimes I REALLY wish that the whole "Nintendo PlayStation" thing would have actually came to be.
This is one of those times.
I'm not denying that it was good. I played the demo for months because of the online multiplayer and had a blast.
All I'm saying is that when I think of "PlayStation All-Stars," I think of games like FF, Tomb Raider, MGS, Tekken and Devil May Cry before many PSN titles come into the picture. Good to see downloadable games get some love, though.
So you dont think of actual Sony characters? odd.
I know the one-console future would never actually happen, but regarding your monopoly comment, there would obviously be different manufacturers making different models of the hardware, just like DVD players. It's just that there would be one software format across all the hardware versions.

going with black screen. epic music starts up. a few of the mascots are standing and looking around confused. they are gearing up. you see smokes and explosions. announcer comes on. and it's like OH SHIT. fades out and begin gameplay. it's a 4-6 person brawler. it'll show you the fast gameplay and deep customization like build your own characters and stages. also will feature a deep recording feature and lobby system. It also will support 3D and NO move. this game will be out Early 2013.

I've been hearing a lot of people question the inclusion of Fat Princess and your comment just pushed it to the point where I wanted to comment. But anyways I agree that there should also be characters that actually helped build the PlayStation brand even if they aren't owned by Sony. Tony Hawk like you said is a great example. It would be awesome if he made it in but I somehow doubt it. Still Tony Hawk was huge for the success of the original PlayStation.
Hmm . . . starting to notice that a lot of the third party characters I'd want somehow all ended up in Activision's hands.

Actually, MS does have 1 advantage.
Money. They could probably create a decent set of third party fighters.
But probably at that point, with all those royalties to pay, I doubt they would make much money on the game.

the cool version aka the original version has some meat on his bones
the other look like he just got into rehab (actually I think they made some subtle changes to his character going by the recent videos for the game)

Only using Sony owned characters since they are more likely to be included, which character do you think will be your primary? For me it would have to be Jak. I remember when I first got the original, had no clue about anything about it. Only knew it was by those Crash Bandicoot people. Really loved it though. And when I got it I still didn't have a memory card, I had to of played Sandover Village, Misty Island, and the Forbidden Jungle a ridiculous amount of times and never got bored of it.
Of course, this comes with a bit of a disclaimer. I'm basing this off the assumption that Jak will be the version from Precursor Legacy and not 2 and 3, that Daxter will always be on his shoulder, and that he will be less gun based and more eco focused.

and light jak as well.
They would probably put someone from Socom before choosing a COD character. I'm guessing those nameless characters would be worth something if they were to be used for other games.
