Monster Fighters is such weird branding... just... odd.

It's QUIRKY...and COOL!! My son (6) got pretty psyched over it when I showed him the pics. I'm glad too, LEGO needs to make more non-licensed sets that are popular. The licensed stuff is always more expensive, and I'd prefer to get the good (big) sets in series. The new DINO sets are a good example. Great sets at decent prices. The Avengers are the exact opposite...great sets, prices not so much, and trying to get all of the minifigs..I mean, c'mon...3 sets with Loki...only one set with huge Hulk, only one set with Cap...c'mon LEGO why you gotta be like that. :(

Actually, I think the Dino sets are way overpriced if you look at the price per brick. The Marvel stuff is a steal comparatively speaking.

So the May the 4th (+ 5th) promo where you can get the TC-14 minifig requires you to make a purchase of $75 worth of Star Wars LEGO. Would this promo require 75 euros in Europe or something closer to the actual exchange rate?

My wife stopped by TRU and grabbed the Batman fun house escape, Wolverine vs helicopter, and Batman on sea-doo sets. I have all of the Batman and Marvel sets now. I hesitated on the Avengers truck, but I'm glad I bought it. All of the Avengers stuff go together really well. I'll do a pic of all the Avengers stuff together later, as well as all the Batman stuff once I have them all built. I haven't assembled a single Batman set yet. My wife and I will just do that for an entire day sometime, or maybe spread it out over a couple of nights.

So I'm getting all the super hero stuff and now the monster fighters in the fall. No more Star Wars sets for me. I think that maintaining those 3 collections will be enough investment into the hobby!

First info (rumors) on UCS B-wing:

Pieces: 1,500
Price: $180
Available: October

Take this info with the heaviest grains of salt though. More when I have it!

This price seems high considering R2-D2 is also $180 at 2127 pieces.

Agreed. I like the Dino sets, but the prices aren't great for an unlicensed set. Lego seems to pass the cost right on to the consumer whenever there is a new mold involved (the dinos). The upcoming Jabba's palace set is horrendously overpriced when looking at price-per-brick, but I'm guessing they need to subsidize the cost of the new Jabba and Gammorean molds somehow.

power functions? Large pieces?

Have they done this with any UCS models other than the (sort of but not really UCS) AT-AT? I don't follow Star Wars or the UCS line that closely.

If they were going to do PF I wish they would have put it in R2. I'll be watching Eurobricks like a hawk for the first person to get that little guy scooting around with PF.

Ohhh. You mean like using that Batman minifigure but replacing the wings with the cape?
Here's the Bricklink.

I don't think you can get it from Lego unless it's missing, at least it didn't show up on the product re-order page.

Awesome! Thanks for the Bricklink... link.

Grey & Blue Batman is only variation I don't have. I've got TDKR (tumbler), Grey & Black (original batwing) and all black (new jet foil/ski set).

Got my Lego iPhone case from Think Geek today, along with my free series 6 mini fig for redeeming geek points. Got the outlaw cowboy, which I did not have before. Expect Cowboy Deadpool eventually!

And as for the case, here is the first creation I will leave on there for a bit.

EDIT: actually, going to use the grill pieces for the windows instead.

Him or Her? that's a female torso with stubble :)

Clown has bitch tits then I guess.

Speaking of which, this was a post on The Bloggess's website the other day:
http://thebloggess.com/2008/08/so-i-got-a-box-in-the-mail-filled-with-80-body-parts/

yesterday I got a box of body parts in the mail and when I pieced them all together they were a bunch of angry cross-dressers.

I couldn’t make this shit up.

lego.jpg

Lego sent me this to celebrate their new line or anniversary or something and I honestly have no idea what the hell to say here except that this pretty much sums up my entire life. Other bloggers get invited to go on CNN or get free furniture. I get an angry transvestite army.

Even my kid was like “Fucking-A, this shit is disturbing” except that she’s three so it was more like she picked up the girl/boy and said in a really deep, masculine voice “My name is Lori?” and then looked to me for guidance and I was all “I got nothin’, kid” and Victor couldn’t stop laughing.

And let me just go on record here as saying that I am a HUGE supporter of the transgendered community and I think Eddie Izzard in drag is 10 times hotter than Brad Pitt covered in nougat, but this is just bizarre. There was not one face in the box that wasn’t the threatening moustachioed dude.

lego2.jpg

PS. Someone just sent me the lego version of Eddie Izzard’s “cake or death”. I’m still confused but at least it makes this post slightly more cohesive*.

*No, it really doesn’t really at all.

Update: So it turns out that this angry moustachioed head is most often used in sets where he plays a patient about to undergo some sort of procedure. Of course it is.

Also, I got a very nice response from Lego which said “ Each kit was supposed to contain an assortment of random parts; however, it looks like yours somehow consisted only of angry mustache faces. Please know that this was not at all done intentionally or to freak anyone out in any way.” I also heard from several other people who got packages from Lego and none of them contained the angry moustachioed man head. So basically I control the entire market. It’s a lot like cornering the market on gold, which is enviable and glamorous. Only switch “gold” with “angry moustachioed heads”, and “enviable and glamorous” with “perplexing and mildly uncomfortable.”

Like with LOTR, I might just go into my local Lego store and buy the entire line of Monster Fighters when they come out (Yes I realize that will be costly but I got time to put money aside).

Tempted to buy a SW set just for the shiny figure...just not sure which one. Any suggestions?

Buy an X-wing and Tie Fighter.

Me? I am going for UCS R2D2 most likely. Still not sure if I am going to jump on the figure or wait to order something big when the Hulk mini fig goes out. Want dat Hulk. The droid I could take or leave, but if they have free shipping that weekend then R2 is mine.

A good, solid suggestion. However, I went with the Falcon and Land Speeder combo for the same price. You get Han, 2 different Lukes, 2 different Obi-Ones, Leia, R2D2, C3P0, Darth Vader, Chewbacca, and a storm trooper. Basically, every important character in the original trilogy. Also, they go well together in terms of scale, they complete the first part of the movie on Tatooine, and the Falcon is a huge impressive build with about a dozen play areas alone.

Good suggestion.

Another: go balls out and get the Imperial Shuttle before it goes OOP.

I'm hoping that set will get discounted during the sale. I'll probably go for Battle for Geonosis and Anakin’s Jedi Interceptor if nothing on sale interests me.

Here's a post from the Brickset forum:
1. FREE TC-14 minifigure with a LEGO Star Wars purchase of $75 or more.

2. FREE LEGO Star Wars poster with all LEGO Star Wars purchases, featuring the new exclusive 10225 R2-D2 set.

3. Exclusive Sales and Deals, including FREE Standard Shipping with all orders of $75 or more. (Per the small print it has to be $75 of Star Wars merchandise)

Imperial Shuttle is 10% off on Amazon right now:

And ugh at the free shipping. Guess R2D2 will be mine next week. I dont want to break out the credit card, but new UCS set along with free shipping and exclusive figure is too much for my weak will.

Same, but I'll need a job in the next week to be able to afford it. Someone hire me! I do kids parties!

The question is this: redeem my $40 in VIP points when I order R2, or keep building up points to get a crazier discount?

Keep saving to knock the edge off of something truly outrageous. Having money off is a good excuse to get something really expensive that you would otherwise would scoff at.

That was my original intent. Save up enough so that when I do finally order the SSD my wife wont scream at me about the price. It is the long con...

Here are the truck details. Like I said earlier, I was going to skip this but I'm glad i didn't. It was a fun build and it looks really great with the rest of the sets in terms of scale and design integration. I left the flick missiles off because they are bulky and stupid.

And here is the Hulk escape set. Obviously, I have some minis included that did not come with it, but I'm trying to show how all the sets work together. The set swivels open a bit from a "C" shape to a straight configuration. I love the addition of Space Invaders on one of the screens (I have Black Widow playing it). Overall it looks suitably scientific, but kind of pales to the Bat Cave which is the only logical comparison to what I think they were trying to accomplish here. Oh yeah, push the button and Loki's glass cage pops open. Pretty cool.

Next is the jet fighter that came with the Hulk escape set. It's designed for the Hulk to rip the entire canopy off. There is a little lever you press and the whole thing comes off. Taken on it's own it's a little weak, but when every set is together I think it's great.
