I don't understand why they keep restarting these comic book series movies. What is wrong with just making a new episode? I guess the comics have done this from time to time, but...
I just got home and have no idea what is happening, so I'll just keep staring at the loading circle hoping to see something.

Yeah, so what? This series is a restart. It created a whole new origin for Batman. Its stupid... there should be only one origin story for a particular character. It ends up being a bunch of meaningless movies..
They are also restarting Spider-Man. Why does it need a restart? It was just restarted only 10 years ago - its not like 50 or 60 years have passed...

First of all what? What is a restart? The Dark Knight Rises? Or are you talking about Batman Begins? Do you know why they needed to restart? Because the combo of Burton and Schaumaker movies were terrible and drove the franchise 6 feet under ground.
Why is Spiderman re-booting? Because original cast, crew, and director left after the third movie which BTW was terrible. Its either pick up after that turd with a new cast or start fresh. Even Spiderman isn't a full reboot and it will be different enough to not be stale hopefully.

I'm guessing you've never read a DC Comic in your life. DC provides new canon origins for characters ALL THE TIME, and has been doing so since the 60's.
