Another thing, where are the new posters? Everything is out of order, WB!

Trailer goes up

Still can't even believe that's the "final" trailer. We got less than 3 months here. Prometheus is a month away and they're still shitting out trailers. This one barely even hints at telling you what the plot is!

remember when Hugo fucking Strange was rumored to be the villain?

and then later, when people were arguing that Bane would be wearing a suit and tie and that there's no way he would be wearing a mask, because Nolan would never do anything so unrealistic as to have a character wearing a mask (I swear to god I saw people saying this stuff on the superhero hype and nolanfans boards)

and when Selena Kyle was never, no way no how, ever gonna become Catwoman, because such an unrealistic character would never fit into the uber gritty Nolanverse (as opposed to such grounded, real life characters as Scarecrow, Ra's Al Ghul, Two Face, Joker, and Bane, who may as well have stepped out of a documentary)

I'm reading some of the thread from the start and it's hilarious how off so many of us were in some predictions.

remember when people thought it would be called "The Caped Crusader"?

Hard to believe this thread is from 2010. All these posts will be lost in time, like tears in rain...

Hugo Strange should be the villain of the inevitable reboot. Would be a good way to go over the batman origin quickly (as in a quick recap by Strange) and not spend half the movie retreading it. Of course, the reboot will probably not be at all psychological or smart at all. It'll probably be really dumbed down and turned into a popcorn flick because movie execs didn't get the Nolan movies.

I went back and rewatched the prologue and Bane's voice is definatly clearer, less mechanical. I think the new voice has two advantages over the first; Bane is understandable, of course, and it allows for Hardy to be more menacing through the calmness of his voice.

I refuse to watch the latest Prometheus trailer after reading that it shows off so much. I'm still kind of lukewarm on this latest TDKR trailer but it's pretty awesome how little of the plot is known (aside from Bruce getting captured and...RISING)

And then there's the disadvantage of it being boring and artificial when compared to the original voice.
I want the original voice back.

I sincerely hope Mr. Freeze gets to be the villain in a Batman film at some point. He's one of my favorite comic book villains and deserves a big-screen interpretation that doesn't rely on (admittedly hilariously awesome) puns.

Kinda hope the eventual reboot is more comic worldish with alot of cameos
ie Journalist/reporter= Vicki Vale, District Attorney=Dent

I'm interested to see how they will handle Batman after this film is over. On one hand these films were so successful so they might just follow the same formula again.

Or they might go the Marvel route and start doing tie-ins and winks and nods to other characters.

I hope it's a mix of both. I really don't want Batman to go Justice League on us in his individual films, but I wouldn't mind a more comicy tone now that we've dealt with Nolan's stuff.

edit: actually I don't even like comic books so I don't want that at all. I just want a more fantasy-based look though. More stylized I guess.

i expect the reboot will be more like a marvel movie. more comic booky and more action.

batman now is dark and tied into real world. next director can take it to more wacky and fun place. where wild villains like mr.freeze and riddler can shine as it wont be tied down to real world, but will allow it.

and then it can set up the eventual justice league movie.

WB saw their most cherish comic book property get burned once and they won't let it happen again. They are going to get someone to make similar, in style at least where they never venture too off course and into too comic bookish, movies or even darker.

They should go a more Gothic horror route, I think. I like when Batman's world is darker, more nightmarish, and more grounded.

Like, the concept art for the Joker... make that the Joker.

I could see a more fantastical batman movie, and then a Batman/Superman movie. Or skip the Batman movie and jump right to a team up in a couple years. The big question is really how long they'll let Batman lie dormant.

The idea of immediately jumping into a reboot seems weird, but it probably likely.

Bane will start laughing hysterically at Gordon-Levitt in the Batsuit.

"Aren't you that guy from 500 Days of Summer?"

He laughs so hard that he loses track of his surroundings and falls off a building to his death.

I think if Superman does average the next film will be a Justice League, the Marvel strategy wont work in this case
Batman(Not a lead in) Green Lantern(Failed) Superman(either way) Wonder Woman(Not gonna happen) Flash(unlikely)
I think they will throw a JL movie out there if it works they branch back into solo movies. Superman vs Batman could happen but I think JL from a business perspective makes more sense.

Not digging the hair because it's trimmed and he looks like a guy who stays groomed. Heath's joker physical makeup showed how anarchic he is. His hair was nuts, messy, yellow teeth. He don't give a fuck. Shit was perfect.

Oh man that would be amazing. Will never happen though. It's good that these films have been successful but the downside of it all is that I don't think WB will take any risks with the franchise and stray from the 'realistic' approach now.

they might try to get it in style, but I think they will allow it to get more, how do I word it, I don't want to say silly, because then its Clooney batman. They will allow it to get more unserious as it is now. More batman returns I guess I could compare it. because that movie had its serious moments and its funny moments.

sure it made batman into a cold blooded killer, but I blame Tim Burton for that mistake.

Would be absolutely amazing if that were to happen. A few years back after TDK came out I wondered if a Nolan Mr. Freeze could work. Somehow that translated to a guy who kept people in freezers and looked sort of like a hobo version of Vin Diesel whenever I drew him out.

Of course in a more comic book style movie, I'd be all for it because Mr. Freeze is one of those characters that is just amazing when nailed right (I.E: The way he was portrayed in Arkham City. Fan-tastic)

Have any of you read Batman: Nine Lives?

It's a 40's noir take on Batman, with Batman and Killer Croc being the only comic-like characters. Everyone else could be taken straight out of a noir movie, with cool nods to their original counterparts.

The reason I mention it is because Dick Grayson is described as such:

Private Eye "Boy Wonder" Dick Grayson, an orphaned former circus performer and ex-cop who was hired as Selina's bodyguard but was fired the day before her death.

It's a really cool take on the Batman mythos, and I always thought it would be interesting if one of Batman's comic book sidekicks were interpreted in a more realistic fashion, and JGL's John Blake character (from the little we know) seems kind of like that. Or maybe I'm just tired.

Why does everyone want Gotham to look like Burton Gotham?!

I don't think that's what anyone means when they're talking about a more comic book style.

Yeah, it was pretty cool.

Gotham in general has its own character. Whether its the over the top gothic look of Burton's films, or the dark retro art deco style of The Animated Series, most visual portrayals of Gotham really add a sense of place that is unique to the Batman character.

Batman begins had it a little bit, not as much as the rest, but the feel was there. Gotham in TDK had no character, nothing to set it apart. It was bland, which is criminal considering the huge part that the city plays in the film. It just takes away from the feel of Batman.

I disagree completely. The real city feel fits in with the realism Nolan is going for with these movies. It's not criminal at all, it's just got a different goal in mind in terms of theme.

I think TDK Gotham just felt too slick in comparison to Begins. TDKR's buildings look to have a little more character imo.

Right but I think that fits in with the theme of the widened scope of the story. Yeah a lot of the buildings had character in BB, but that;s because it was mostly the Narrows. The poorer parts of town usually have more wear and tear and character while the main parts of town will be more uniform and corporate looking. When the focus shifts to the city as a whole in TDK it makes sense that it's not going to have the same character as the Narrows. I mean I can understand how it might be a problem for some, but I dig what they were going for.
