EGM: Final Fantasy Versus XIII a No Show at E3

I just thank God for From Software and Dark Souls. They got me my RPG fix and actually provided an all time classic for the ps3. So even if Versus never comes out, it won't be that big a deal.

I'm sure Versus will never, ever hit the same stratosphere the Souls games have. And considering the bipolar quality of FF titles lately, I have no idea how anyone can assume this will be a AAA masterpiece.

It looks like Kingdom Hearts coated with characters loving the color black.

That's the least that S-E can give us at E3. *crosses fingers*

When this doesn't happen, at least I'll know that I won't be the only one crying. I personally care more about Type-0 news because, well, it exists and Versus XIII probably never will.

Man where would Square's presence be if they didn't acquire Eidos? Still seems weird to think about seeing the Square Enix logo ding in front of titles like Hitman and Tomb Raider

Are these are confirmed playable with trailers not listed? It has been heavily implied there will be a FFXIV cg trailer. If that's there, couldn't there be a Versus XIII one?

Not sure, I'm basing it from this:

Well, As long as TWEWY2 is announced, then I have to reason to be disappointed...

It is coming, right guys?
.
.
.
... Guys?

Though I wouldn't get my hopes up, this doesn't prove anything because:

1. S-E often has surprise titles
2. I'm pretty sure that list is a list of -playable- demos, there's no way FFXIV won't be displayed. Trailer-only titles seem to have been omitted.

But most of all...

3. They're very likely rebranding the game, and that's the kind of announcement they'll make at the conference, not on a pre-show list.

I used to want Versus XIII to hurry up and come out so that Nomura could get to work on Kingdom Hearts III.

Now it's been so long, I don't even care about Kingdom Hearts anymore. So take all the time you want, Square.

Hitman: Absolution (360, PS3, PC)
Tomb Raider (360, PS3, PC)
Sleeping Dogs (360, PS3, PC)
Quantum Conundrum (360, PS3, PC)
Heroes of Ruin (3DS)
Kingdom Hearts 3D Dream Drop Distance (3DS)
Theatrhythm Final Fantasy (3DS)

-from IGN and the SE Members twitter basically confirmed this list.

Two Japanese games and the rest western. Pretty sure it's clear where their E3 focus is this year. Meanwhile SE Japan only caring about Japan.

Final Fantasy Versus XIII a Development Project Reborn

Versus XIII won't play anything like Dark Souls, so you are not missing out.

Dark Souls is a japanese action RPG with a big, seamless world and a dark aesthetic. It has that much in common with Versus (supposedly).

Possibly. All this really confirms is that it isn't playable. It could still have a new trailer.

3. They're very likely rebranding the game, and that's the kind of announcement they'll make at the conference, not on a pre-show list.

No way. If they were going to rebrand it, they would have done so at the press event last year where they changed Agito to Type 0. They showed a new trailer for Versus and still called it Versus. The name is staying.

No Thief??? I am sad :(

XIII-2 sales-bombing (at least in the West) might have changed their minds, though.

Could be that they're going to save and use it at the Sony conference.

:(

I wouldn't count on it, unless they're gonna pull a david jaffe on us.
I'm expecting new info on this at TGS or towards the end of the year when they will make an announcement as to when they will reveal a new trailer.

Good point mentioning FF XIV. They DID say in a blog post that FF XIV 2.0 would be at E3 yet it's not on their list of confirmed games...

That leads some form of a miracle hoping we could see it there.

Just going by past history and showings from him and SE. The odds of this sucking far outweigh the chance of it turning out good. But who cares, it's not coming out anyway.

I just want the shimomura soundtrack to be released :(

The least people could do is just let it sit in the backburners of their mind. There are plenty of great games coming out, play em, and before you know it
not really
, Versus XIII.

SE has been irrelevant for awhile now. Final Fantasy has been shit for awhile now. Versus had my interest 4 years ago. If it ever comes out, I'm not sure I'll care at this point.

I guess you can sweep away the grave differences under the rug if the rug has the letters "RPG" on it.

While you are at it play Dragon's Dogma lol.

So since Versus XIII was announced we've had:

- Final Fantasy XIII, Versus XIII, Agito XIII announced
- Final Fantasy XIV announced
- Final Fantasy XIII released
- Final Fantasy XIV released
- Final Fantasy Agito XIII renamed Type-0
- Final Fantasy XIII-2 announced
- Duke Nukem Forever released
- Final Fantasy Type-0 released
- Final Fantasy XIII-2 released

And of course the other smaller titles inbetween like Dissidia and Theatrhythm, and I believe there was the rumour that Final Fantasy XV will be announced at E3 (won't happen I think).

It's really silly.

Wait, people still think this game actually exists?

I thought everyone realized years ago that Square Enix is pretending this exists to keep themselves relevant.

I commented on the other thread, honestly I'm extremely disappointed in how Square is treating Versus - like an unwanted stepchild. It has more promise and fan-demand than XIII-2 ever had, no one wanted that and it was announced, finished and released all within Versus's delayed development cycle. From what I've read it's mostly Nomura's team getting cannibalized for their other projects. Their western owned studios are starting to flourish while the Japanese ones lag behind.

I can understand it taking longer because of the insane level of detail and the gargantuan size of the open world/environments but still... six years?? That's six straight years, not like Duke Nukem which was dropped, picked up and dropped again several times.

Gran Turismo 5 even came out FFS and that took almost as long. The Last Guardian is looking like another failure of Japanese development times - hence why Sony sent Allan Becker to take control of their Japan studios and whip them into line/shape.

Personally speaking, WHO CARES. Plenty of upcoming and unannounced games in the coming months. I'm not losing any sleep over this game. When it's done, it's done.

It's obvious – because this is E3 – that Square Enix will also make new announcements in there like they always did, like everyone else also do. And this means they can't spoiler everything before the conferences take place. Versus XIII might not be there (still could though), but Type-0 surely will be. Still it's not in that list. Of course, it was never been announced before and they're not going to do it now through their mailing lists. Just wait for Sony Conference at best.

edit.

Final Fantasy XIV 2.0 also is missing, and we already know that it'll be 100% there.
