Yeah, so this thread just got more interesting. Avengers $200 million weekend. Gonna be tough to top that, but I do see DKR doing it. $215-225 million OW and a $95-100 million Opening day.

Other thread you said $100 million opening day. No lowballing it down to $95M. I made the bet with you that it would not do $100 million in a single day.

Severely doubt TDKR wins OW record, but the domestic battle still stands, though the Avengers has gained the upper hand. Still not sure what to expect from TDKR worldwide

Sure don't mind the avatar bet. I'm not hating on the Avengers one bit. I actually am a big fan and saw it on the 4/16 selected screenings and saw it again this weekend. We the fans are the ones who are winning since we get these 2 films in the span on 2 ffreakiin months. I really do believe DKR will get that number though. Even possible a $100 million on OPENING DAY

I was in total agreement until the $100 million opening day. It is tough to predict what TDKR will do. It has the hype train of being the finale to a well received series, and coming off one of the most loved and successful blockbusters of the last decade. It is lacking some of the mystery and hype around the villain's performance like Heath Ledger had though. That is the wildcard.

Okay, I will make that bet with you. I bet that TDKR does not make $100 Million in a single day.

It probably won't but it will be in the ballpark. I'd take the bet for the $215-225 though

Edit: I'll take the $100 million opening day bet

No backing down now.

It is funny that most people were claiming that TDKR would be 'way better' and earn way more than The Avengers.

I don't think TDKR will top The Avengers in box office.. but hey we'll have to wait and see and it will still do great.

I don't think TDKR will top the awesomeness that The Avengers delivered, though I will still really love it

DKR:

47-50 million midnight showings
100 million+ opening day(including midnight)
70 million Saturday
50-55 million Sunday

$220 million OW+

Friday: $95 million ($35 million midnights)
Saturday: $58 million
Sunday: $53 million
Weekend: $206 million

Been my prediction for awhile, and I'll probably stick to it.

Just a sample of some choice quotes:

Avengers will be a great film and makes a ridiculous amount of money but there is no contest here. TDKR is going to be the biggest grossing film in years, possibly of all time

This isn't really a toughie. Considering I'm not sure Avengers will beat Inception's domestic total ($292 mil), I'd say beating TDKR is... unlikely.

Dark Knight by a mile.

It's main competition has already been out for a few weeks.

loooooooooooooooooooool

Not even worth a discussion.

Joss Whedon is a terrible director and hack writer. The Dark Knight will beat it with ease.

Joss Whedon sucks.

TKDR is going to blow everything apart around it.

Yeah, this. Firefly wasn't even good.

Avengers is not going to make more than Iron Man 2.

DKR is going to dance all over Avengers.

the dark knight will get all the revenue it needs, not the revenue it deserves

seriously though fuck the avengers

Not even close, DKR might win by >$500 million ww. Marvel's movies aren't even on the same level as Batman.

This isn't even close TDKR has a chance of reaching 1.5 billion or more. Avengers won't get past 500 mil imo.

Spiderman will be a better film than Avengers.

The Avengers will do 600/700 million tops, Dark Knight Rises will make 1.1/1.2b.

The difference between Nolan and Whedon is that Nolan is talented, it's pretty simple.

I am predicting an Avengers domba so............ DKR.

TDKR will stomp the Avengers in WW BO.

Super hero movies gross this summer will be like this

TDKR
Spiderman

Avengers. Avengers will be lucky if it makes 600 million.

This will not even be close.
Not in NA and not worldwide.
Batman will single-handedly wreck the Avengers.

Avengers looks incredibly average

What's everyone's take on Spiderman? I thought the latest trailer was lackluster. Still should do good at the BO it's Spiderman

I still think TDKR will do incredible numbers. It's just funny seeing how people thought Avengers wasn't going to make money.

None of those quotes said it wasn't going to make money. They said that TDKR will stomp Avengers' gross in the long-term. Which is yet to be seen.

Lantern was terrible. Spider-man should be a good, not great movie.

Spiderman is probably the biggest and most well-known superhero, so the new spidey will do much better than Lantern.

However, I don't see it doing it better than previous spideys and avengers. It seems unnecessary and the tone (from the trailers) doesn't work for it. Plus, even though there are a bazillion trailers out for it - there is virtually no hype.

It will do well enough, but it will be the lowest grossing Spidey movie in my opinion.

Batman and Avengers occupy two different areas of my mind. Avengers is the perfect true comic book movie. It's embodies the lightness of the comics perfectly and elevates a lot of it as well. Nolans Batman is a crime drama. The acting, pacing, and music is superb. I cheer and laugh for Avengers and I hold my breath and shake in Batman. That all being said I think it's unlikely DKR beats Avengers at the box office.

not unreasonable- since it's generally held that Spidey 3 did considerable damage to the franchise.

It will probably shape up to be a good movie- no spidey 2, but better than spidey 3 or most of the standalone marvel films.

But they actually cast attractive people in this one.

I kind of want a more comic book batman now that Nolan is done. I don't mean Batman and Robin but Nolan's movies are almost sterile in its representation of Batman as both a detective and superhero. Bale doesn't seem larger than life. He's just Christian Bale dressing up in a cool Batman suit. How do you do this? I have no idea. But if I were getting paid millions to make it work I'd definitely give it some more thought :P

I agree. Its time go back in the more fantastical direction with Batman.

I could see WB doing what SOny is doing with Spiderman after Nolan's trilogy is done. Wait 5 years or so, then reboot it with a younger cast and feature some of the more "out there" villains from Batman's rogue's gallery.

I can't imagine they'll wait that long. I expect them to push that reboot out in 3 years to keep the money train rolling.

I love the Nolan Batman films and I agree with you, Hamburgular.

But I also hate the first four Batman movies. Half-ass Tim Burton and neon-light claptrap.

...I just keeping going back to the Animated Series, nodding my head and going, "Yeah, like that thing. Make it like that thing."

Haha wow I love this thread, where's that Ironman wailing on Thor .gif when you need it?

Edit: Found it
