EGM: Final Fantasy Versus XIII a No Show at E3

SE needs to learn NOT to announce games if it isn't in full production and release isn't within 1-2 years. It's ridiculous, it was annoucned at the start of this generation and the generation is almost over...

What was the last game they announced more than 2 years before its release? They haven't really repeated that mistake in the last six years.

Um, yes they do. When a title has the same production values as a main title, it pretty much is a 1st class main title. Regardless, Versus isn't an off-shoot. It was always positioned as a main line title. It wouldn't have gotten all this "effort" put into it otherwise.

I remember having this argument with others before. I don't see hwo anybody can look at vs13 at anything other than a main title considering the budget and talent behind it, but others seem to think that this game has to be FF15 to be a main title.

Really weird.

I wonder what people will use to decide whether or not something is a main line title if SE drops numbering.

Well technically it isn't part of the mainline franchise. It would have to be FFXV in order to be that. The production is as big as a main game, but that doesn't mean it's not a spinoff. That is assuming this is a real game in development we're talking about.

I guess I don't see how it's a spinoff. I think what separates mainline entries and spinoffs are time, effort, and budget.

For me, anyway.

Spin-off is the wrong word for it, because it isn't spun off of anything.

It is it's own game.

An independent title, seperate from the main franchise would be a better way of putting it.

For all we know it could spark a series of "Versus" titles that run parallel to the main titles.

They have learned. In the past several years, they've done a very good job at having a short announcement to release date. XIII-2 had less than a year between being announced and released, and Dream Drop Distance was under two years.

It's just Versus from 2006 that's still languishing along, but they've learned their lessons from the XIII games.

I agree they've IMPROVED... they haven't learned their lesson though. If the game is in full production, as they had mentioned a couple of months ago, you'd see a HECK of a lot more media & coverage of the game by now.

It's more difficult to apply the commonly accepted definition of the word to a series like Final Fantasy considering not even the numbered entries follow the same continuity or exist in the same universe, but sorry production values are not really a consideration when labelling something a spinoff.

For instance the various flavors of Law and Order all have pretty good production values... doesn't stop them all from being spinoffs of good ol' L&O.

2006 - HYPE!!!!
2007 - HYPE!
2008 - This game will be out by 2009 I guess
2009 - okay.
2010 - okay.
2011 - have to be this year or the next right?
2012 - lol.

Unsurprising. Game might have its own event should SE feel like divulging any info about it. Of course, if it exists as a game.

When are they releasing FFX HD?

13-2 was a downgrade from 13.
Agreed in terms of difficulty and framerate. In terms of battle difficulty, FFXIII-2 was an absolute joke compared to FFXIII. And I didn't use monsters outside of two instances in an effort to try to ramp up difficulty, but to little avail.

In terms of cast, I liked the FFXIII-2 cast much better than the first game's cast taken as a whole. Better developed. I think Noel is great, and Serah was much better than expected, especially if you picked the dumb dialogue options.

Overall, I feel the same way about both games: they complement each other well, and one has what the other doesn't. But I think they're both middle-of-the-road games. I found that I enjoyed FFXIII in terms of battle difficulty after playing FFXIII-2. There are three battles in FFXIII's postgame that I found outclassed everything in FFXIII-2 (Attacus, Vercingetorix, Long Gui). There was nothing like that sort of fun in FFXIII-2, imo, except for Raspatil. I felt bored more often than not while playing XIII-2, I guess, because of the lack of difficulty.

It's pretty sad that they and Gust have the most rpg output these days.
LOL, seriously! I tend to stay away from IF games, but I just realized while playing Neptunia mk2 that I've probably played a lot of them this generation. It's pretty crazy.

nothing sad about Gust have the most HD JRPG output their game is improved in each iteration and don't lump them with compile heart /idea factory. Meruru is Good JRPG developed with 15 man dev team.

for idea factory at least now their neptune V 3D character model starting finally looks like a very good HD game.

I wish SE give me VP3 to fill the gap waiting for Versus!

Wow.... do you guys realize in the time we were waiting for this 5 big Assassin's Creed games were released for consoles ( ACIII this Q4 )!!!!

and they were all HUGE and very HQ :\

Thinking this way makes me, well.... make my jaw wide open.

Just rename it FFXV and let's all get over it -_-"

This pretty much.

I foresee FFXIII-3 and Persona 5(which hasn't even been announced) coming out before Versus.

Sure it is. I really believe you.

But for FF, that's pretty much been whats been the difference between main games and non main games. That and different gameplay. Nothing thats not a mainline game has come close to the scope of something like Versus XIII. I'm not sure how you can not consider it anything but a big deal mainline FF game.

This line of thinking is funny to me. If you don't like it, you can always ignore it. Why would it make you happy if a game others could be looking forward to was cancelled?

Personally I want it to be canceled so their resources goes elsewhere, which is why it would make me happy. My post wasn't a direct insult to anyone who is looking forward to this game. It's called an opinion.

One person can look forward to a game while other people can not criticize it's waste in resources and terrible development cycle? Your line of thinking is "funny" to me.

After playing, finishing, and platinuming Assassin's Creed II last week (and I enjoyed it far far more than the first... and I wish to experience the other games in the series now), Versus--should it ever come out--must allow me to climb up those buildings or experience those buildings' architecture somehow in Versus that are supposedly modelled after real-life structures.

I like looking around at structures in games, and Versus' structures from the trailers seem pretty neat. I'd like to at least see the designs.

I can say that I'm legitimately enjoying mk2's battle system. It's 1000x better than the first game, and doesn't have an asinine heal system.

i... i still have hope that it's taking so long because they're really cooking up something special, a huge beautiful game really worthy of the FF title. a game that silences the haters and critics. and they're not taking it to E3 or TGS because they don't want any distractions at this point. this IS possible, right? right..?

i mean it can't be just perpetual technical issues with the engine or something.. it can't!

SE pls..
