The sad thing is that vsXIII probably won't be as good as its development time warrants, and it might only barely make a profit.

I am not at all surprised. I've already resigned myself to the fact that it won't be coming out in the 2012-2014 range. There just hasn't been enough progress on that front to even think of it, yet alone believe in Nomura's words- which have all indicated 'it'll be ready when it's ready, but unfortunately, it isn't really a priority right now'.

Like the previous poster in this thread, I can only hope they just start development on KHIII. It's been years, at least give me that. Or if not, let me live the dream of TWEWY 2.

I really don't think ant FF spin-off has had the development time, resource, creative talent, and overall seemingly production quality of Versus XIII. Why you want to call it in off-shoot makes no sense. Just kind of makes you sound a bit nu-informed.
I don't think production values really determine whether or not something is an offshoot.

This is bullshit. It's another title set in the future with armies invading. SE needs to stop with all this future sci-fi crap and go back to actual fantasy.

In other words remake FFIX and add more content specifically Amarant content because he's awesome.
All other sci-fi games are either apocalyptic (Fallout), Star Trek-Wars (Mass Effect), or military (MGS).

vsXIII isn't super science-fictiony (FFVI had mechs, airships, guns, and industrialized cities), but anything that is still maintains originality in the modern game industry. The aspect I'm looking forward to most is this refreshing-but-familiar-while-refined vibe, which incites frothing hype in me.

It would be the first real killer app for Vita. Type-0 would sell quite a few Vitas in America and Europe.

Yeah, just like how Peace Walker and Birth by Sleep moved PSPs.

Most people don't even know what Type-0 is, and when they find out, they won't care.

Not a problem.

Most likely there will be a secret event only for a select few on Famitsu, Nomura will show them "the game" himself then we'll get to read how awesome it plays and looks.

Right? right.

It was too late by the time those two came out. The PSP was already dead.

this game sure is going to have to be good when it finally comes out

I'm afraid that it won't be good. I'm afraid that the battle system is going to be really outdated by the time the game is finished. Just look at how much they've improved the Kingdom Hearts battle system with Birth By Sleep. Versus XIII has been in development so long that I'm afraid the battle system is going to be slow and boring by the time they finally release it.

I just realized i dont care anymore about the Final Fantasy franchise

wow

And like every Nomurafied FF game, this one also looked like teen-emo garbage to me.

They know it will be a commercial failure compared to how much they spent on it, at this point they'd be best porting it on the new engine and release it on every platform known to existence, includin PC and the upcoming quad-core smartphones and pads.

Excellent. Square continues to be a train wreck with this title. Just reveal it's no longer in the works and stop fucking with your rabid fan base.

He has never directed any FF game though, he only does the character designs

That would be the absolute worst direction the series could go in. FFIX had enough of that particular brand of shite to last me a lifetime.

The funny thing is, with titles this long in development (assume they come out), there's a peak point where expectations take a turn. The switch from "this must be the best thing ever to warrant this sort of development time" to "I hope this ever makes it out, if just for curiosity's sake" happens quickly.

Versus XIII is right on track to enter the latter category.

I'd love to listen ganchildren's stories about this game.. it's a shame that they would say the graphics are shit by then.

This game is not real it's never been real.. I smell a "Revengeance" case here.

Never expected it to show up at E3. Square Enix will probably show a new trailer at TGS behind closed doors :/
After 6+ years and still no release date in sight, pretty pathetic.

F2P next generation launch title, magic, weapons and costumes available via microtransactions.

No console is "dead" unless the company that made it abandons it, Sony and SE/Konami could have put a lot of effort into pushing KH BbS/MGS PW on PSP in the US when they came out but they chose not to. A lot of people who are casual fans of these series had no idea they even came out; RE: Revelations had the same problem on 3DS and you aren't going to say that was a dead system. Most casual RE fans had no idea Revelations came out or what it even was, but they all know about ORC as sales show. Simply putting Type-0 on Vita will sell it to the hardcore who have already bought a Vita or are already planning to buy one (like GAFers) but most of your casual Final Fantasy fans will not even know of the games release unless Sony pushes it and Vita hardcore which as we've seen Sony really doesn't know how to market anything.

Don't worry everyone there will be plenty of Idea Factory/Compile Heart games to satisfy that JRPG itch until the day versus finally releases.

Um, yes they do. When a title has the same production values as a main title, it pretty much is a 1st class main title. Regardless, Versus isn't an off-shoot. It was always positioned as a main line title. It wouldn't have gotten all this "effort" put into it otherwise.

Versus XIII is set in a present modern day world. What FF is like that? And armies invading? Like in VI and IV? Yeah they were back then to.

And Fantasy? Does fantasy just mean swords and magic? Sorry, I don't subscribe to that. Fantasy to me means just something this is a dreamlike world, unlike our own. Such as say Star Wars. And really thats been true for all FFs and pretty much the majority of FF has not been swords and magic. And really, I'm tired of that anyway so I hope FF never returns to it.

Everytime a negative Versus article hits the net, I watch this trailer and hope again.

That's certainly MY personal favorite trailer they've shown off for the game. It doesn't get any more badass than that. (Except from the 2008 trailer Kagari linked... when Noctis, Prompto, Gladioulus & Ignis walk away slowly... at least, I thought that was totally badass!) xD

Tbh, I have lost a lot of interest in Square Enix games. I got FFXIII day one, full price, didn't regret it and thought it was good. But 2 years later, I don't care about FXIII-2 at all. Will maybe get it if it's €10, it currently sits at €19. Imo their games takes too long to be released, no improvements and feels stale.

Whoever came up with the idea for Fabula Nova Crystallis needs to be fired. It's just been one huge clusterfuck after another. They never should have announced three games at once.

That's pretty much what's wrong with the franchise this gen.

You're saying that like the Vita isn't already...

That said, at this point it would be more viable to expect a different Japanese developer to announce a new JRPG and have it released before Versus 13 is even shown again.

More on the reasoning though, doesn't Nomura keep saying that they're intentionally taking it slow with this game and that it was worked on by a skeleton team for a very long time?

SE needs to learn NOT to announce games if it isn't in full production and release isn't within 1-2 years. It's ridiculous, it was annoucned at the start of this generation and the generation is almost over...

Twhat they need to do is fix their broken development structure.
