A good percentage of my friend's boxes have been terrible. Like outrageously bad. I got lucky with my second box getting a temporal mastery, tibalt, and two of the mythic angels. My first box had a cavern and a griselbrand in it but nothing else really. Bought a fat pack and got another temporal mastery and another griselbrand. Now the addiction is setting in, I need to open more packs.

Ugh I am anticipating my box with some dread now :(

Texted my friends about this after seeing my 2 mythic box, one replied that he got more quality rares in his prize packs than his box. Only good mythic he got in the box was a second tamiyo

i was looking up some magic pictures and came across this one where the artwork is displayed in almost the whole card rather than the top half. Is this how new cards display their artwork? or is it just some few occasions?

You sure someone didn't paint on that? Reddit's community loves to paint on cards to extend the artwork and the like.

Yeah that's painted.

It's a Game Day promo.

Spent most of today and tomorrow drafting AVR to help the 3 people from my area who qualified for the PT. The format is better in draft, the midrange cards are a lot better.

My Fat pack hardly set the world on fire. Zealous Conscripts, Reforge the Soul, Divine Deflection, Burn at the stake, Desolate Lighthouse, Somberwald Sage, Increasing savagery, couple of others. One common foil, no mythics.

Oh well, got two boosters to open from my intro decks, and another 10 boosters on the way. Just glad my fat pack had packs without the exact same batch of commons in them, like I've seen mentioned.

I got crap in all my packs again. Best I pulled was the generation thing, it's a green rare. :/

I played a frites deck with griselbrand added and it's such a fun deck. Turn for Elesh or Griselbrand is so much fun. I want to make one now I think.

Edit: The card I got for the release was scratched too. :/

Only pulled three mythics from my box, but overall I can't complain. Got 1 Tamiyo, 1 Bonfire of the Damned, and 1 Gisela. Also got 1 Vexing Devil, and 1 Cavern of Souls. Those are the noteworthy $$$ cards, that I got, anyway.

Ended up trading Tamiyo to my girlfriend (already promised her I would, if I pulled her) for another Cavern and a few other cards. Got a Temporal Mastery in the pre-release so I'm working on trading that and the Vexing Devil off while their prices are inflated.

Also went 3-1 at FNM last night, which is a personal best. haha

Played with my mostly Green GR aggro deck:

4x Birds of Paradise
4x Ulvenwald Tracker
4x Strangleroot Geist
4x Dungrove Elder
3x Solemn Simulacrum
4x Huntmaster of the Fells
2x Vorapede
2x Primeval Titan
2x Craterhoof Behemoth

4x Rampant Growth
3x Beast Within

2x Kessig Wolf Run
4x Rootbound Crag
14x Forest
4x Mountain

I ended up sweeping 2 victories thanks very much to Craterhoof Behemoth, who came down in situations where I otherwise would not have won the game. Ulvenwald Tracker was so good, especially in my match against another Green deck. His mana dorks never stuck around for very long, which prevented him from dropping his Elesh Norn.
I think the most overall useful element last night was of course the Dungrove Elder and Kessig Wolf Run combo.

I lost my 4th match against my friend and his BW Tokens deck. It was hardly even a match, I couldn't do much to match his deck's speed. But managed to snag a nice Restoration Angel promo for doing the best of all the players who went 3-1 that night, so good stuff.

Cube drafting is taking all of my tix/cards/money. So much fun. Its a shame that it pays out in Time Spiral boosters. I hate that draft format.

So I don't know anything about Magic (aside from the fact that you "tap" lands or something) and I'm not really interested in learning or anything, but my dad used to play a lot and I loved to check out some of his cards, look at the cool art, and read the awesome flavor text. They were almost always clever or interesting in some way. I was always fond of Fodder Cannon's text.

What are some of your guys' favorite flavor texts?

ROFL, that's friggin' brilliant.
Do the flavour text for Unhinged and unglued count?

I went 2-3 on my FNM. Since I ran a w/b human token deck. It got stopped by RDW with Stromkirk. I need more kill cards. One was against a deck that had 12 planewalkers and 4 snapcasters as the only creature. 3 liliana, 3 gideon, 3 tamiyo, and 3 sorin. I was wailing on him, and got him down to 3 life. Then he terminus. Then I get my permanent tapped by Tamiyo. Gideon swings for free. I put more creatures on the board. Snapcaster, terminus. =/ Felt like I could have won that match. Last one was against almost mirror match, but he ran humans only, no tokens. All I can say, silverblade paladin is OP with SoWaP. So much damage. Benefits from soulband is ridiculous.

I used to use Magic Workstation a lot back when I played constructed a lot. Honestly though, people on there were mostly gigantic assholes.

Ya, they are on cockatrice too. It's frustrating since I don't know all the commands to do something since it's so barebones and they're not patient. That's why I was wondering if anyone here still uses it.

I use Cockatrice for constructed testing. Modo's just too costly, as I need my IRL playsets, and trading for a second set is just not worth my time.

My box was pretty good. I didn't get any of the cards I was really hunting - no Tamiyo, no Cavern of Souls, no Treacherous Pit-Dweller - so that was kind of a bummer. But I did get plenty of mythics, including Tibalt (which I will probably trade away) and the only two mythic angels I'm interested in using, Gisela and Sigarda. More highlights - Vexing Devil, Restoration Angel, another Reforge the Soul, Silverblade Paladin, 2 Misthollow Griffins, one of them foil.

There are a lot of cards in this set I like and that I'm looking forward to building with, which is a good sign.

I really need to grab a few more copies of Bonfire of the Damned. It wins games.

Code:
4 Champion of the Parish
4 Blade Splicer
4 Silverblade Paladin
4 Restoration Angel
4 Doomed Traveler
4 Gather the Townsfolk
4 Honor of the Pure
2 Increasing Devotion
3 Cathars' Crusade
3 Oblivion Ring
24 Plains

Goal is to get Champion of the Parish fat via tokens and flickering Paladin/Blade Splicer(which makes more golems) whenever. Cathars' Crusade and Honor of the Pure sound ridiculous together.

Thoughts?

Needs more Thalia. You might consider Fiend Hunter for the board tempo and interaction it can have with Restoration Angel as well.

I had considered Thalia, but I felt like she would impede with the Gather the Townsfolk and Honor of the Pure. Those at 2CMC make this thing super aggro.

I may replace 3 O Ring with 3 Fiend Hunter to flicker him, but it feels kind of a useless thing to flicker him only to have him go and exile the same thing again. I guess he counts as another pumper for Champion and Cathars' Crusade, but he's a lot easier to remove than O Ring is.

Cathar's Crusade and Increasing Devotion are both too slow for constructed.

Thalia fucks over Ramp decks way more than it slows you down, get 2 or 3.

Hero of Bladehold should be your finisher.

You can flicker him away from removal, with the added bonus of being able to change your exile target if a bigger threat is on the board.

Kind of glad I have no emotional attachment to Ravnica. Should make not picking this up a little easier (especially is its as poor as the Venser Vs Koth set).

This may be a stupid question, but if you have a necrotic ooze in your frites deck and two elesh norn in your graveyard would it give everything +4/+4 and all the opponents -4/-4? It would get the ability twice since there is two copies?

Activated abilities, so anything that has a cost or a tap to use. Elesh Norn's abilities are static.

Ya, just noticed that. I saw it in a couple builds and forgot it was activated so I'm completely at a loss of why you would waste space with it.

I guess I'd have to see the list, but I'd say it largely depends on what ends up in your graveyard. If you're using a lot of stuff like Merfolk Looter it might make sense. I wish the Ooze grabbed Norn's abilities. That would be insane.

Definitely no merfolk, it was the pilgrim that taps for white and griselbrand are the only activated I can remember in it off the top of my head. And griselbrand is awful without having lifeline or anything that he has.

I have this sickly fascination with the novelty of building a UGW land destruction deck based Acidic Slime and all of the flicker and clone effects that are available right now. Would probably try to ramp up with BoP and Avacyn's Pilgrim, run Acidic Slime and Beast Within as land D, and use Cloudshift, Restoration Angel, and Phantasmal Image as options to replicate Acidic Slime or some other toolbox creatures that may be Green Sun's Zenithed for. Back this up with Mana Leak and maybe Mental Misstep as countermagic. Venser probably fits in here and I would like to try Tamiyo, as her ability to lock down mana sources would be useful and the amount of mana creatures I'm running would almost ensure that she's at least a Tidings the turn she comes into play.

Any thoughts? What other utility creatures can I run for synergy with Cloudshift/Restoration Angel?

Careful with Beast Within... 3/3 tokens en masse can be something to be scared of, especially depending on what type of deck you're facing (B/W tokens gets a bunch of 3/3 tokens? lol)

I like the idea a lot though. It's something to consider.

Someone on channel fireball said cavern of souls protects a creature cast with unburied rites? How?

I was under the impression this wouldn't be the case as well. I hope someone can clarify.

I don't really see how it would. It would have to somehow protect the casting of the Unburial Rites, but that should be impossible because Cavern specifies a creature spell.

Unless I misunderstood him? He said:

Paulo Vitor Damo da Rosa said:
So, who actually benefits from this? The GR decks (Ramp and Aggro both), for example, surely do. But they’re not the only ones – ironically enough, I think the biggest winner here is not a creature, but Unburial Rites and other similarly unfair spells. Take, for example, Frites (the French reanimator deck). Frites does something fundamentally unfair, as do most decks that play from the Graveyard, and it’s kept in check somewhat (at least game one) by counterspells. Well, no longer – even if there is not one single guy that you really want to resolve, like a Primeval Titan, the fact that Cavern exists means no one is countering your Unburial Rites! Even though the card does not interact with spells (which are way more powerful than creatures, as a whole), it’s so good at what it does that it doesn’t have to, because it forces the counterspells out of the format.

Unless he's just saying no one will ever play counters now? Which is a weird way to state it if he is.

Well, yeah. It says that in the quote you posted haha

I don't know if I agree though. I think people will still run one to two Leaks until it's rotated out.

Ah okay. He's just saying that counterspells are fundamentally weaker now and that decks that won't even run Cavern will benefit from this since maindecking a big set of Counterspells might not be the best idea anymore.

Ah alright, he didn't say that until the next paragraph so for him to say in the paragraph before something along the lines of "unburial rites will never be countered again" seems absurd. I can't see it not even being a sideboard card still for decks like frites. Seems like a huge hyperbole over the effects although it will have a huge impact still.

Edit: Whoops remembered wrong, he says it last sentence of that paragraph, my bad.

Edit: I agree it cuts it down but I can still see negates or something else to prevent kill spells and stuff. It's not like counters were only ever used on creatures.

Shit, I'm number 7 on that list. NERRRRRD!

Haha that's dirty. Maybe even go black blue with the Smuggler.

Ya, 3 colors is really easy now so I'm trying to figure out how I want it to work but definitely want some sort of flicker deck. Skin render was dirty enough in the mimic vat decks we made with him before innistrad came out.
