what would make the WiiU your go-to console for multiplatform games?

they just need to do this

but with its own battery/bluetooth so it doesn't need to plug into a wiimote. Also maybe ditch the octagonal gates on the sticks.

Somewhere close to the power of next MS and Sony consoles, A large install base, An optical disk able to hold enough data and support for a classic controller out of the box.

If it does all of these then developers can't ignore it.

Just make it easy to port and have a large install base and In the climate we have these days with hardly any exclusives and large budgets. Port happy developers would have to be afraid of money to not port their game.

We know the bolded is true already.

This is a really simple question to answer.

If the controller offers new and exciting ways to play a game, I'll probably go for the Wii U version of the game. Epic mentioned that Arkham City has some really awesome gameplay ideas involving the controller, and that's what gets me more excited than anything. Gameplay will always trump graphics as far as I'm concerned.

region free, needs to have it to even consider buying it, especially after nintendo's attitude to localisation on wii

History has taught me not to trust third parties on Nintendo consoles.
There was once a time where you could trust third-parties on Nintendo consoles.
Way back in the early 1990s and the heyday of the Super NES.
And what a glorious time it was, too!
Surely Nintendo will reverse the trends of the past 20 years with the Wii U and they will once again be everyone's go-to console for multi-platform goodness.

Having exclusives and great third-party games in one system is very appealing, but the real question is: how long will Wii U be your go-to console for multiplatform games?
Why it will be on par with the Orbis & Durango right out of the gates and it's just a few short months away and at an affordable price no less.
It will jump start the next golden era of gaming and be my gaming hub for the next decade. Why would we expect anything else?

<cough>

I'm uninterested in most multiplatform games, but I might play a few on the Wii U if the controller includes:

  • Analog sticks
  • Pressure-sesitive buttons
  • A brightness adjust for the tablet (so that I don't always have a six-inch touchscreen glowing under my head, keeping me present while I play in the dark)

PS4: no or partial backward compatibility, installation crap like on PS3, "600$+"
720: will never buy Microsoft hardware, they won't need to do anything at all

It's being released this year...
But how do we know? Nintendo's last console certainly wasn't on par with the other two. How can we be so sure that Microsoft and/or Sony won't take that approach with their next box? Microsoft especially, who seem more interested in Kinect improvement than hardware upgrades?

Is there any concievable way that the Wii-U will have graphics on par with the next gen from Sony/MS?

I really wonder what happened to Nintendo with regards to technical power in their consoles. Obviously it's worked out financially so it was the right choice, but the Gamecube/N64 were no slouches. Wind Waker looks better than almost every Wii game.

I'm holding a black one in my hands right now and it's amazingly comfortable. It'd be near perfect with 360 styled triggers, clickable analog sticks and a built in battery like the DS3. I normally don't like the DS style analog placement, but they are farther apart so they feel better too.

Hopefully Nintendo will make another classic pro with more conventional improvements like the ones I mentioned.

Just look at sales of the N64 and Gamecube and you can easily see why Nintendo made their choices. Has everyone forgotten the blue ocean stuff already?

The only way that could happen is if devs were super lazy and worried about budgeting, that all ports look relatively the same or not huge differences to make a concern

Yeah, I have the black one that came with Tri. Ergonomically it's a mess, but the true killer is how lousy the analog sticks feel. Just too loose, moreso than on a dual shock.

many of the "insiders" here on neogaf have said the two next gen consoles will be a full generational leap. Many have stated that microsoft might even be pushing for more power. coupled with that there are many rumors published by the media that suggest the same. of course there are obscure rumors here and there that say otherwise but the majority have said next gen will be a full graphics leap.

well.. considering dev houses have been closing left and right this gen.. they maybe SHOULD be worried about budgeting.

- Every third party game has both touch pad and pointer support that is done/utilized well (for games that should use either)
- Every third party game gets released for the system with all the features available on the current and/or upcoming consoles
- Online works just as well if not better than other current or future offerings

If they can pull that off, I'd go with WiiU and PC for next gen. Assuming I buy WiiU since I'm still not sure if I will.

Being able to flip between the tv and the tablet screen is almost godly when my wife and kid need the tv more and more. Other things that Nintendo can do to help is offer to transfer VC games, build in a decent, free online system, and offer PS4/Nextbox games as uncompromised as it was between Gamecube, XBox, and PS2. I'm starting to feel the sting of xbox live so Microsoft can screw this up as well. Price increases in Live, hiding more services behind Gold (I know they did the opposite just recently), things like this only make me wish to be off their service more and more.

Good use of the Tablet controller. If it is going to make me choose Wii U over the rest, than it better be used in a way I can't play on the other systems.

My current plan is get out console gaming and focus on the 3DS. If I do pick up a next gen system it will be the Wii U. Nintendo titles and potential of the controller is enough for me. I'm worried about localization but the new digital release system leads me to believe it won't be that big of an issue. I own 87 Wii games compared to 21 for the X360 and PS3 combined. If the Wii U ends up getting more multiplatform releases compared to the Wii then my Sony/Microsoft pick-ups releases will be even less. There just won't be any point to me picking up another Microsoft or Sony console.

I can't think about anything that WiiU can offer me in order to change my multiplatform games from PC to WiiU.

Better performance and i don't mean slightly better like wii-u gets an average 2fps than the 360 version, i am talking a significant difference.

If it doesn't then 360 will continue to be my go-to console for third party exclusives.

I'm getting a Wii U day one no matter what for Nintendo-exclusives.

As for choosing to get the Wii U version of Multi-platform games, I personally don't care about online or graphical differences but there are a few factors that would make me choose the Wii U version over a PS3/360 version.

I would get the Wii U version if the game:

-had worthwhile exclusive content - if the game had extra stages, characters, etc. that were only in the Wii U version, I would probably pick it up.
Not timed-exclusive content that could be released for other versions as DLC later, but content that took advantage of the Wii U's controller or featured Nintendo characters.
Like if there was a (non-Mario Kart) racing game that had a bonus Mushroom Kingdom track and allowed you to use the controller as a rear-view mirror, for example.

-was part of a new franchise - I prefer to have every game in a series playable on one console, if possible. For example, I have every Assassin's Creed game on PS3 and I intend to buy ACIII on PS3 regardless of whether or not there is a Wii U version. However, I might check out a Wii U version of a sequel later on if it had great exclusive content as I mentioned above.

-was the "best" version of the game - Again, not in terms of graphics/online, but regarding features/content. One example I can think of is Aliens: Colonial Marines. I think the controller-screen could really add to the experience if it is used as a motion tracker like the one in the Aliens films.

The main thing for me is for the Wii U to be my friend's platform of choice. If I only have a handful of friends playing it online, it's not going to get as much burn as my nextbox.

That said, I'm giddy about playing Nintendo franchises in HD.

The obvious answer is if it does everything better. As a consumer I want the best bang for my buck.

I want a better and free online experience.
I want better version of games.
I want better application support.
I want actual new IPs.

If I can count on every multiplatform game coming to Wii U, it will be my main console - at least until the PS4/720-generation start to become relevant sometime in 2015. (I don’t believe we should presume PS4 and 720 will be as similar to each other as PS3/360 is either, it’ll be a lot more to set one apart from the other this time)

Games should either be WiiU/PS3/360 multi or be exclusive to one, there’s absolutely no reason to skip Wii U if you’re already releasing for the other two.

This will never happen for any console.

My answer: Go-to console? No such thing for me. Guard enough bases with one Nintendo console, the competitor console I want the most games on and a PC. Games games games.
