Mass Effect 3 Sales Exceed $200 Million at Retail

Selected Operating Highlights and Metrics:

*On a non-GAAP basis
  • Strong results driven by the successful launches of Mass Effect™ 3, FIFA Street 4, SSX™ and Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning™.
  • FIFA 12 established the best year in franchise history - with downloads and micro-transactions totaling $108 million*. FIFA Ultimate Team — a pure digital companion to recent FIFA titles was the second best-selling EA offering in the UK in fiscal 12.
  • Battlefield 3™ had a record year, establishing itself as one of EA's premier game services and in the process successfully took share in the growing First-Person-Shooter market.
  • Battlefield 3 players are still deeply engaged — 6.3 million MAUs in March. New content downloads available in May and June.
  • Q4 full-game downloads were up 76 percent* year-over-year, contributing $60 million* in the quarter, driven in part by Mass Effect 3 and STAR WARS®: The Old Republic™.
  • STAR WARS®: The Old Republic™ active subscribers are 1.3 million. Two new content packs — Legacy and Allies, available in Q1.
  • EA's Play4Free brands are generating an average of nearly $2 million* per week. Several more EA brands will be introduced in the Play4Free portal in fiscal 13.
  • EA shattered its goal for digital revenue growth — generating more than $1.2 billion* in fiscal 12 for a 47 percent year-over-year growth, and driving operating margin to 10%. Another 40 percent increase in digital non-GAAP revenue and continued operating margin expansion is forecasted for fiscal 13.
  • EA's Origin™ platform for games and services has registered 11 million players and generated approximately $150 million* in just ten months. EA's Nucleus database has registered 220 million consumers.
  • Casual game leader PopCap™ — acquired by EA in August — is growing on mobile and social platforms with new games like Solitaire Blitz™ and Lucky Gem Casino™. A new version of Bejeweled™ is EA's top grossing game on the Apple® App StoreSM.
  • EA repurchased 27.7 million shares for $529 million through March 31, 2012, and as of the call, the $600 million share repurchase program has been completed.
  • In fiscal 13, EA will invest $80 million in development of games for Gen4 console systems.

1.3 million subscribers, how many of those are on the free month EA handed out to maxed players?

EA still stuck in that transition between Riccotello's original plan - make a ton of new IP and build up a diverse portfolio of great games - and his new plan, copy everything Activision does.

Big shooter? Check.

MMO? Check.

Assortment of other games sent to die? Check.

But to their credit, they do have great sports games.... well, at least for the sports I give a shit about.

I don't get the logic in calling next-gen Gen 4 unless they're counting the PS1 as the start of gaming which would be pretty sad.

Just the implication is going to make a lot of old school gamers incredibly salty. I might visit the festered bowels of gamefaqs and the like this week just to shower in their misery.

SWTOR already down to 1.3 million. They've almost about 700,000k subscribers so far.
Star Wars: The Old Republic has lost 400,000 subs since February

I was worried that would happen. Was sort of hoping it was just my own personal interest that the game didnt manage to hold, but it appears they are losing alot of subs.

'Simcity returning to PC and mobile'. Huh? Was a mobile version of the new Simcity game mentioned before now?

Maxis is also working on a social network game for release this quarter.

EA's handheld presence is dead.

Still losing money even with KOTOR and Mass Effect 3 out...there is no light at the end of this tunnel I'm afraid.

This was the year they finally made some income from going all hd. $80 million for development of next gen titles up to june 2013 must mean mostly WiiU as vita and 3DS still do not look like they are on the radar i woild doubt it includes orbis or durango as that would be in fy14. However it looks like EA might be banking on social as well as F2P to grow for them.

That was a fairly poor idea banking on hd only though. so much revenue for so much losses cumulative for the whole generation. could have made more ds and pspand wii during that time if you ask me. Deciding to hedge your bets on the two lowest install bases of the generation ww is risky if you ask me.

Huge increase in sales from Bad Company 1 to BC2 & BF3, wonder what caused such a huge jump in sales? BF3 at 15m is amazing though and I really hope DICE supports it for a long, long time.

Speaking of support, this caught my eye

I knew we were getting the Close Quarters expansion in June, but what is coming out this month?

I was just about to post this same thing... I am wondering if it is the same content but maybe PS3 users will get it last week of may and the rest the first week in June. But that is a stretch so this is very curious.

nice. guess most hated company in america has lots of fans.

kudos.

weird bolding in the OP. I would have highlighted the below instead of the other bits.

FIFA 12 established the best year in franchise history - with downloads and micro-transactions totaling $108 million*.

EA shattered its goal for digital revenue growth — generating more than $1.2 billion* in fiscal 12

those DLC success figures+numbers are IMPRESSIVE.

They expect to sell 1 million more copies of Fifa 11 next year while Fifa 12 is out? Who buys those? =/

Star Wars continues to lose subscriptions, that's not a good sign of longevity. I expect it to suffer the fate of all the recent mmos that started big then plummeted to almost nothingness within their first year...
