Fighting Games Weekly | May 7-13

Might go to Toryuken (ugh that name) since the montreal tournaments have been fun.

Also more EXVS players there.

Anybody missed the EMP stream and want me to upload?

Don't know exactly what went down. I went to sleep.

its the biggest event in the FGC so think they are entitled to charge something for it. i hope some of that money is put back into the event though. if not in extra pot money then in making the event better.

I have absolutely no problem with charging spectators the same price to occupy the floor space as the players.

Does mlg charge to come spectate as well?

Idk how to feel really. It seems sorta fair to charge on their part. Maybe driving more cali peeps who just drive over to watch on Sunday and party and watch the stream instead. Or they will just party and 50 ain't a thing homie, heh

Yes, they do.

That's what I wanted to say after hearing this.

Let's see some "ESPORTS" sized pots/prizes

Yes, IPL as well I believe, could be wrong though but I'm positive MLG has a $20-30 spectator pass.

YO, EEESPORTS! All jokes aside, paying for being a spectator for one day isn't bad but the price point is absurd. There's one thing that can be told from this announcement though, EVO is going to be huge this year which means that the FGC is getting bigger.

I don't have a problem with this. I still remember a GAF member (Rice-Eater?) saying he couldn't find any seats on Finals Day and had to sit way way in the back. I would rather members of the community get priority rather than random drunk Vegas people wandering into the ballroom.

I think this is perfectly fine, although I agree that the price point seems kinda wack. It may be more to just discourage super casuals; if it was dirt cheap the seats could all be bought by people who may have a much more casual interest than hardcore people who then wouldn't be able to get tickets. Sort of like the argument that Chris Kohler was making that PAX tickets could be more expensive to prevent the day 1 sellouts which prevent a lot of people who may have a greater interest in going from being able to do so, etc.

I agree. It's not like you're going to be getting comfy reclining seats or anything. Let's be honest, you'll be sitting on a rented wedding chair in a room that smells like bigfoot's ass crack. Fifty. US. Dollars.

Eh - it's whatever though. I'm not visiting so I'll keep the cost v.benefit to myself.

Honest question, if the stream for Evo wasn't free and cost around $5... would you guys go for it?
100% yes. As long as it's stable, didn't have any ads and was AT LEAST 480p. I'd pay $5 more for an HD stream.

Believe it or not, not everyone who goes to Vegas spends cash like it's going out of style.
Why else would you go to Vegas then? Last place to go if you don't want to spend money.

$50 is a bit steep, but it does make a lot of sense to charge people walking in the doors like any other event.

I would want to go to Vegas for EVO. I don't gamble, and I don't drink or do drugs, so there is pretty much no other reason for me to be in Vegas.

Charging people a weekend's fee for one day seems a bit steep.

Might as well save the money and stream monster it. I'm assuming half of the fun of EVO is having a couple of beers with fellow FGC members and partaking in that Vegas culture.

Sure, but it also Finals Day for the biggest FGC tournament of the year in the world, and what it is costing to rent out where they are is probably a significantly higher cost than most any other tournament AND you are getting a t-shirt. Part of the cost I'd still wager is to discourage casuals to ensure people who really want in can get tickets, but even ignoring that being part of the most hype day of the biggest event of the year in a nice venue with a free t-shirt I feel it's not unreasonable.

Also as far as you going for Vegas just for EVO you are probably in the vast minority on that.

I don't know if you guys follow my Twitter, but I'm going to be doing a stream tonight, currently planned for 9PM EDT/6PM PDT. This is going to be streaming via my shitty webcam, so don't expect anything amazing. I might mash out some poverty online AE matches afterwards (I suck, not worth watching), but the primary reason for the stream is talking about going to EVO. I was at the point of giving up on going, but every time I try to let it go I can't, so now I'm committing to EVO.

There are also some other topics I want to talk about, some of which will offer a bit of context that will make most things fall together. I've never really done anything public like this before, though this probably won't be what you expect. But yeah, if you want to watch, tune in.

A bit late, but starting.

The last few times I went, I shared a room with some friends and played in the tournament. I didn't really do anything else because I never saw the point, but that's just me. If money wasn't such a big issue with me right now, then I'd go again.
The other days are free though.

Then they should charge for those days also, or not at all.
