Fighting Games Weekly | May 7-13

Not sure how I feel about this, to be honest. I hope it's not a massive price slash. It would really suck if potentially dozens or even hundreds of players who paid full price for registration plus tournament entry fees were barred from watching the finals in the ballroom because of a shit-ton of spectators who only paid, say, half price. At the same time, $50 is pretty steep for essentially one day of attendance, but that at least seems more fair than the alternatives.

Kind of a shitty situation all-around, but as far as problems go, too many people in attendance seems like a good one to have.

If you paid to enter the tournament, you are in, no question.
The number of spectator badges is limited based on that.

hella production/sponsors is required to make 'invitational only' good/profitable.

bad idea from any angle.

Gootecks blowing up Capcom for having crappy features?

Sp00ky and Gootecks being continually ambiguous and nondescriptive of their situations make me uneasy and a sad panda. Not that I feel like we're entitled to know. But still, both helped me get into all this FGC shizz and it's pretty sad to see stuff like this happen.

Sp00ky came out yesterday on CC Live, he was being subtle not vague.

Wow that sucks really hard Max, hope everything turns out for the better.

If the partner is playing nothing but SFxT. What are the chances of that happening?

Several people go to EVO just to participate in one game. It is very possible.

Where was this stated? I think what they meant was that only one of you had to register for the SFxT tournament, instead of two people registering for the SFxT touney as a team, which would mean both of you have to pay 20 bucks each. The EVO event registration is a separate deal altogether.

In the comment section of the registration news post on SRK.

how much longer are you going to whine about this

lol. How is this whining? This is a legitimate issue. I have no problem with the fee, it is just something that should have been brought up day 1 instead of less than two months before EVO. A lot of people were operating on the assumption of it being free since they themselves said that "Spectating Evo is free, bring your friends." I have friends that are impacted by this.

I believe that it will be around $30. Again, nothing wrong with charging for the final day and I am all for it. Just a heads up on it would be nice. I know things change and it is good they are taking the steps now so that people won't get screwed over at EVO.

$10 sounds too low tbh. I hope they are limited :)

I think why some people liked it was, people just coming in just for Sunday were taking all the seats, from people who where paying the full badge price.

More chairs EVO!

Full price badge holders should get priority seating on Sundays ;)

Landlord troubles? I would guess Max will be alright since he is probably just in an apartment. I would think he wouldn't have too much trouble either finding a place where he can shoot what he wants, or just setting up a neutral place for doing his vids. The community will support him if he needs it.

Seems like he's just following his passion. He's still young, right? Does he have a family and kids?
He has a wife, dunno about kids though.

I'd hate to speculate further about issues with the missus and having to balance family time with work time though, but I remember Max saying it was pretty hectic to balance everything.

They should have made it 10 from the start no way in hell would I drop $50 for a day.

$50 a day is cheap in my book. Maybe it's because I go to Vegas like 3-5 times a year. Shows in Vegas can easily go for $200-$400 and mid level seats. Fuck I went to show once where they were charge $10 for a fucking bottle of water. It's fucking Vegas everything is marked up.

It was $50 for like 12 hours of entertainment. That's pretty damn cheap if you ask me.

Didn't it used to be free?

I think so, but that's kinda of a bad idea with evo as big as it is now. It's not simply the biggest fighting game tournament, but a video game convention of sorts. Shouldn't they at least charge a fair spectator fee?

10 dollars is super cheap for the hours and quality of entertainment EVO is putting out...Anyways, I hope they break even more records with this EVO. I'm really glad that international competition is coming not only for SF4, but for Mahvel and even KOF.

This seems like some poor decision making. Maybe there are more details that make this make more sense, but I'm having a hard time feeling sorry for him if he had the choice.

Damn, that sucks. Big fan of his work. It might have been the Chris episode that got him in trouble with the landlord. Guys running around with fake guns and tons of people covered in fake blood running around and hanging out in one apartment might look bad in the landlord's eyes. Plus neighbors might have complained. It's too bad, his apartment was snazzy as fuck.

I hope things work out for him. Good for him continuing to do things that he enjoys no matter the cost. I just hope it doesn't come back to bite him in the ass.

Megaton. Can't say no to all that paypuh. Hope he gets a better reception this time and isn't scared out of America again.

Then again he was just probably trolling about that.

I wanna see him again because his RR is outstanding. PR Rog's RR is disappointing. But I think PR Rog was just trolling though, and not being serious.

I think he was scared. I find it highly unlikely that his fellow JP players get in his face and vehemently demand matches for money, so it was a very new experience for him. lol

Prior to this new announcement, you registered as a team. So if you and I were to team, I can pay my $50 plus $20 and have you as my partner. You wouldn't have to pay anything. Now, I will get a badge and you will not. So for finals, I can watch in the ballroom but you would have to pay $50 to get your badge.
How did you arrive at the conclusion that any participant wouldn't be required to pay the venue fee? What major tournament has ever worked like that?

EDIT:
This is what happens when Capcom becomes the main attraction, spectator mode now paid DLC.
LOL!

Not surprising- it made zero sense for Kusoru to be unsponsored post-Final Round. It's just a matter of working around his school schedule.

Now, if only someone would pick up Abegen...

Wasn't there word on abegen and another player from Japan coming? I want Chou to come to evo as well. In fact the bigger the inter national crowd the better. I want America to work for the title.
