In what maybe a sign of the apocalypse I maybe getting a Glock 19. I'm also looking at a Sig P226N. Goal is trade the AR for one handgun and cash for either a Shield or something else down the road.

You go back and forth on your firearms so often, lol. Hopefully you find something you like eventually and stick with it :P. I have thought about maybe trading some of my pistols for something else, but I just can't let myself part with them or any of my firearms. I need to add to the collection, not diminish it!

I know lol part of the problem/good luck is its so easy to trade for something new with no lose on value or cost paid. It's like with video games. Part of it comes from a desire to keep trying new things to make up for lost time .

Well guys I get my Baby Eagle II 40 (steel frame) and my Springfield TRP 1911 45 Friday.

I kinda screwed up. I was told the Springfield was going to be a few months so I went ahead and ordered the BE II. A few days later my guy calls and says the 1911 is on its way. I'm done buying guns for awhile.

Has anyone tried the Ruger Mk III 22/45 Lite? I am going back and forth between the 22/45 and the regular Mk III but I havent been able to make up my mind.

I'm a little worried about the aluminum on the Lite model, but I do like the cost. I have also been told the Ruger .22 semi-auto are a royal P.I.T.A to clean. Could anyone confirm this?

Haven't tried the lite (don't like light pistols), I prefer the Mark III to the 22/45. Despite being marketed as having the same grip as a 1911, he 22/45's grip is longer along the chamber-to-muzzle axis than a 1911. It feels weird.

You heard right about them being a pain to re-assemble. The first time you do it, the mainspring housing assembly will not want to slide into the receiver. Forcing it and tapping it with a mallet makes you feel like you're going to destroy it. It gets easier pretty quickly once it breaks in and you wear down the micro-burrs.

Don't let that turn you away. It's a ton of fun to shoot--super accurate and crazy cheap. Can't beat that.

If you find that you don't love either the Mark III or the 22/45 after handling them, consider a Browning Buck Mark. Same accuracy and price and has the most natural grip of the three

I'll be picking up my bull-barreled Mark III today or tomorrow and doing a strip and clean. I'll let you know how it goes.

It's heavier, the grip fits my hand better, the trigger break and reset feel cleaner. I know people who love their Glocks--I just don't get it.

My P226 is showing up today. I sourced out an ex-euro cop, completely made in Germany model. I have heard very mixed things about the Exeter manufactured sigs.

I have shot my Glock more than anything. It is not the most comfortable grip out there, but I would trust my life with it. I have no experience with the Sig yet, so at this point the Glock is my go to pistol.

Once I get some range time with the Sig, I'll post up some impressions.

Interesting, the person who I'm possibly trading in had additional work done by the Sig Custom Shop

See, I've tried Glocks numerous times (never owning) and I just don't like them. Perhaps it's due to shitty skill on my part (this was early on) in terms of aiming led me more annoyed, but both my dad and I tried a Glock 26 this year and we didn't even want to finish the full 50 rounds.

Truthfully, I HATE the Glock trigger. It is absolutely balls awful. I was ready to ditch mine after my first range trip out with it...but the horrible trigger is also why I keep going back to it.

A lot of people tell newbies to start with Glocks because they are simple and relatively idiot proof to operate. But I personally feel they are one of the hardest pistols to get the hang of to the point where it could turn someone off of shooting, especially when encroaching on the 20-25yd range. I can do 2" groups at 25 yds no problem with all of my other pistols except for the Glock where I am all over the damned place.

I have made it a mission to master that trigger. I figure that if I can shoot a Glock relatively well, I can probably shoot almost anything else even better lol.

My first time shooting I shot a bunch of guns and several glocks both 9mm to .40 and thought they were alright to shoot.

Picked up a Ruger 10/22 Carbine, with conversion parts on it pretty cheap. Awesome little plinker.

Got it while looking for a S&W MP Shield. Heh everyone has sold out of it around here, and all say the same thing, "it didn't last an hour"

What happened to Manos?

Anyway picked up my New Frontier polymer lower receiver today.

Now saving up money while trying to decide what to get for an upper. I'll probably browse the Calguns used section when I'm ready.

Damn put the idiot scratch on my Springfield 1911 TRP already lol.

Rite of passage. I tend to recommend people a cheap second hand 1911 first to get used to reassembly. It is tricky compared to most modern guns. Treat it as an excuse to start saving up for Springfields custom shop...

Sold my AR. As I want a new piston driven AR.

I will be saving for a long time now.

There are better rifles to be had at that price point, even if you're stuck on an AR. If you're willing to spend a little more a whole lot of options open up for you. What's your budget on this?

Once I save enough $ to buy an HK416. I figure I can shop around at ease for a piston driven AR platform.

The only reason I am set for an AR platform is because of the number of 5.56 STANAG mags I own and the ammo I have.

I don't really like bullpups for some odd reason. I think they are neat, but I always feel weird using one.

Wait isn't an HK416 a gas piston? Also doesn't it take STANAG mags?

Yes and yes.

If you had a vast, comprehensive firearm collection I could see getting a second 5.56 AR out of boredom. Possibly. Probably not though. Way more interesting firearms warrant your attention.

Got mine today, stripped it and reassembled.

I swore...a lot.

It actually isn't that bad once you figure out a couple of tricks. I would suggest going with steel over aluminum.

Range report:

I'm blown away by the Baby Desert Eagle 2 40 and Springfield 1911 TRP. While I'm a decent shot with my Springfield XDm 9mm i still haven't figure out if it's shooting low or to the left, etc. As soon as I shot the 1911 I hit the bulls eye and the rest of the group where within 2 inches. The BE is a strange looking pistol but extremely solid and built way better than the $530 it cost me. My dad thought it was a $1000 weapon.

Also I didn't put the idiot scratch on my 1911 but I came really close. Next time I won't try breaking down brand new guns at 3 am.

Currently I am AR-less. So I want to get another one.

Guys like you and Manos befuddle me. It must be having the easy access. In Australia it takes months of paperwork to get a gun, so I can't begin to imagine trading them out like that. I have a list of guns I am buying when I move back to the US, and I am never, ever, ever, selling them. Ever.

Wouldn't an HK416 basically be the same thing in a way?

Yep.

Its is the access on why I switch out. But if I ever switch things out its 9mm pistols. I still own my first pistol, rifle and shotgun.

Couple of new toys to share. First up is a '54 SA Garand in .30 06. Fantastic shape, great shooter all round.

Next up is my Kriss Vector Carbine. What a crazy little sub-gun! My wife was like "what in the hell is that thing?" Haven't got it to the range yet, but soon.

I would love a Kriss.

It's .45 right?

*sigh*

Can't justify getting one unless I would be getting a full auto one.

I've fired a full auto, silenced one. The near lack of recoil while shooting an automatic .45 is amazing.

I rented a full auto Mac 10.

That shit was near uncontrollable.

You hear it, you see it but it is extremely easy to maintain a tight spread. The gun is always manageable. I need to get one of my own, literally the perfect zombie/ survivalist weapon lol.

I will admit, when I shot it, I did not have the benefit of the shoulder stock, or the strap up front.

OMG two guns on my absolute want list!

just picked this up at a gun show today, was $355 out the door. I haven't got to shoot it yet, but as long as I dont have any problems at the range then it will be my primary carry gun:

Remington 870

If that's not cheap enough, there's always Mossberg. I don't know anybody who's had trouble with their Mossberg, but who knows. :p
