Everybody may be completely biased on this as it may correlate too heavily with one's favorite sport, but I was still curious as to GAF's opinion on this subject.

What sport do you believe creates the best highlights?

My selection is Baseball even though American Football would be my favorite sport to watch.

Basketball for sure.

Dunks get old after awhile. Especially easy ones on breakaways that they put in the top 10 every day.

Everybody in the NBA is too tall for it to be very impressive.

Don't get me wrong because there are good dunks out there, but a large portion of them are overrated imo

Not baseball, that's for sure.

My answer is probably anything outside baseball and golf. Basketball, hockey, football, soccer, even bowling or NASCAR racing generates more exciting highlights.

Has to be football. There are just so many ways for a play to turn epic. Linebackers crushing people, lineman bowling dudes over, RBs breaking through a line, RBs juking like greased pigs through crowds of defenders, a receiver breaking free and smoking fools down the sideline, picks, TAINTs, sacks, strips, kick off returns, they're all just so awesome.

My first reaction to the question was football.
Barry Sanders highlights come rushing into my head.

But upon reflection I would say basketball. When you watch some of the amazing dunks and layups in slow motion you get a better perspective on the athleticism and body control needed to perform them.

Stuff like Skate, Snowboard, Bike or Surf counts ?

You can have the most awesome goal ever .... but you can't beat a human being doing a 1080°

Or martial fights .... Judo usualy have some awesome highlights.

Else, my vote goes to Handball, Rugby or Curling (yes, fuck you)

Lol baseball at being mentioned, omg double play D: ........zzzzzzzzzz

Pretty much why i don't watch ESPN during the summer when its baseball 24/7

I'd say for best highlights it goes from football-american, hockey, to basketball B^)

While baseball is not as action packed as other sports it still provides great highlights. Diving caches, robbing a hitter of a HR, incredible infield plays, monster HR's, pitchers making great catches, throwing a runner out at home, stealing home, suicide squeeze, in the park HR.

Yeah I don't get the post above about doubles play being boring.

I mean I could say football highlights are boring: 8 yard slant for a first down zzzzzzzzzz

I guess you just have to be into it. I've always found baseball the most boring sport to watch and to play. Never clicked with me.

basketball and soccer.
baseball highlights suck. i hate when routine baseball plays dominate Top Plays

Most baseball highlights are anything but routine. The pros make it look easy.

Hitting a baseball is the hardest thing to do in all of sports. A 90 MPH fastball gives the batter 0.4 seconds from the time the ball leaves the pitcher's hand to the time it crosses the plate. That gives thebatter about 0.2 seconds to figure out what pitch it is, where it is going to be, and if they want to swing or not.

In the field baseball players have to react to every play because nothing is set ahead of time. Most catches in other sports had a play designed and the ball is delivered in a particular direction. Every defensive player in baseball has to react to a ball that could be going anywhere.

Basketball, American Football, Football...in that order. Then again, those are the only sports I enjoy watching.

Hockey can be pretty good too even though I don't watch it like that.

I have no idea what you are talking about.

I'm sure if you look at it that way it's impressive as hell but I can't sit there and think "oh man that guy just reacted to that pitch in 0.4 seconds and had just the right trajectory to hit the ball out of the park." It just looks boring man.

I played baseball my whole life, but even I agree that watching a full game is boring. There is a lot of downtime in baseball. No constant action. One other thing that kills the MLB is the fact that they play 162 games in a season so it makes every game so insignificant. You could lose three games in a row and not worry too much about it.

I am just talking about the highlights in this thread though.

Sports where you have to be a fan of a team or play it yourself to enjoy watching it should be disqualified by default. That covers almost any Soccer or Baseball. If you divide the amount of time that's being spent worldwide playing those two by the amount of generally enjoyable highlights they generate, it gets pretty sad.

Baseball and basketball.

Crazy diving catches, ridiculous fielding plays...baseball is awesome.

Basketball has the best athletes on Earth, imho. A monster dunk is one of the most visceral things in sports...probably only a massive HR or a big hit in football match it.

I have no idea what you are talking about.
In basketball: top play is a dunk 99% of the time
In baseball: top play is a home run 40% of the time, and a catch/throw to base 60%
In MMA: top play is a knockout 99% of the time
In football: there are about 15 different types of top plays; from kick returns, nasty tackles, crazy catches, jukes, etc

I'm always going to say football (soccer) here. Seeing two world-class teams at their best is just unbelievable. My favourite football memories are from Euro 2008: Netherlands absolutely dominating the French and Turkey's epic comeback against the Czech Republic. Stunning highlights.

MMA (nothing like seeing a dude get knocked out by a double flying knee)

Guys getting violently KO'd, guys getting their limbs torn to shreds by submissions, and some good ol' fashioned guys like Frankie Edgar who can take that shit and keep going, defying odds, physics and the collective willpower of all the world's neurosurgeons put together.
