Diablo III |OT2| Queues Rise. Servers Fall.

Died again. I'd love to know if this Blizzard's fault or something on my side. Is nobody else getting random periods of severe lag, where the game is otherwise smooth 90% of the time?

I'm certain there will be hacks but the key here is that with the game being all server-side it's going to be much easier for Blizzard to address the hacks and exploits. There was little they could do with Diablo 2.

Yeah, I'm expecting them to be very aggressive in response to them. Hell, they better be!

Why do I have more bag space? Is it because I was on a guest pass at first and now Im on my purchased copy?

Almost every FPS is still hacked :x

Well nothing's perfect and neither is this system I'm sure. There will be hacks and exploits in this game probably within a month, but hopefully they won't be crippling to the economy. I mean people cheat the system in the real world all the time a game isn't all the different.

Something just struck me how does EVE handle its hackers? I bet its amazing.

Absolutely, but I think they still could have prepared some sort of slicker contingency plan. We'll log in eventually and all will be good. But this seems to happen over and over and over (not just talking about D3 here).

I don't disagree. They should have given the stress test portion more than a weekend. But hey, whatcha gonna do?

You guys do realize that even with the beta stress test, demand right now is probably 10x higher?

Blizzard should've done its own internal stress tests though. I'm sure they had an idea of what the demand would be like. It's not like they have any shortage of resources either. It's pure incompetence imo.

If within a year of its release any bull shit happens with dupes/hacks/cheats...then they better get rid of the needing to be online lol. Or else nerds will rage.

I honestly don't see them bending. They've watched major Starcraft 2 tournament games lag and even disconnect in front of large audiences and haven't flinched when it comes to LAN mode.

Just put a few hours in and checked my achievements before logging out - made no progress on ones I hadn't got and lost at least half a dozen others. Wouldn't mind if achievements didn't give rewards... yes, I like customising my banner.

Only had one real problem difficulty wise so far on my Monk, dunno if it was a scripted ambush or what but at least 2 dozen enemies came after me (not all fodder enemies either) and I was out of Spirit. Templar duder died pretty much instantly... was a good job I had the healing skill selected or I might have died :O

Loot wise, picking up far too many crossbows and way too many bits of Barb gear. Never any bloody Monk stuff :( First Legendary drop was a bloody crossbow as well :/

Way to go Blizzard - I guess this is the future of online gaming.

Is SC2 the same way with needing to always be online?

Nope. There's offline mode in SC2, but if you were to cheat in SC2, you have replays at the ready to just send to Blizzard and boom auto ban.

The real kicker will be when it is actually prime time in NA. If the servers can't handle the load now what will happen when everyone who is still working tries to login. I guess I won't be playing tonight.

Had a friend over to watch the Hockey game. Wanted to show him diablo 3, DENIED every time for every commercial brake.

Ughhh, don't make online an fucking requirement if you can't handle the fucking load. I love Blizzards games but man, fuck them.

for those of you who got in, how many seconds did it take for your Retrieving Hero List to get the green check mark? I'm relogging in if it hasn't showed within like 5-10 secs because the 2 checkmarks before that were only a second.

You're right, Blizzard should have used its millions of internal employees to stress test their login system. Oh wait....

I suspect somebody very high up at Blizz doesn't like admitting he's wrong about always online games and their current policy won't change until the management changes.

Thank fuck I've got the wonderful Dungeon Hunter 2 by the mighty Gameloft that I can play on my phone anywhere in the world, online or off, while I wait to be able to log in to my expensive Diablo game.

How's Witch Doctor treating you so far? I'm planning on making that my first char.

Quite well. The spells are definitely a bit hit and miss but they all interact in a very interesting fashion. I find I am changing my entire rollout nearly every level.

I love Sacrifice but I don't like spending a skill slot on zombie dogs. I feel like I'm basically spending 1/3rd of my slots on one bomb with a 60-sec cooldown. Spirit Walk is a fantastic panic ability, easily my favorite out of any class in the game thus far. Makes for a very active, fun play style.

Tip: Don't be tempted to drop poison dart, the early game really drags without it. It can get pretty crazy with splinters. Level 20 and it's still my left-clicker (though I am now experimenting with the slow dart over splinters).

People can get away with stuff for a time, but they have a team that cracks the banhammer down pretty hard, frequently. If you aren't a botter yourself but bought ISK via third parties (especially since they have PLEX in place), you can actually end up with negative money.

You can fake the server load, but that stuff never works out. The reason this keeps happening with every single game that connects to the internet isn't because developers network engineers are incompetent its because this kind of thing is inevitable.

I was alt-tabbed when I got it. Sorry I can't help.

Besides that, it doesn't seem to be the load at all. The actual client <-> server authentication is what seems to have shit itself. The actual servers seem to have managed perfectly fine throughout it all. People just can't connect :x

Can you guys wrap up all these problems in the next hour and a half? If I come home and can't log in I'm going to... well I'll probably just do laundry.

FUCKING ANGRY LAUNDRY.

Trying to get in with no luck lol. Oh well guess I will get some food and such and come back later. At least it is installed, if it is like this tomorrow there will be hell to pay
