Doesn't matter. Sculli is so prone to spoilers his brain can decode gibberish URLs to reveal the twist ending of Prometheus.

Pretty much. But more than that, the track numbers combined with the titles reveal the order these events happen in when - combined with the footage in the theatrical trailer, paint a pretty clear picture of the film's progression.

=P

Aside from the ost, I'm not watching, reading or listening to anything else regarding the movie.

I think it's my most anticipated movie, ever. Can't wait to see it.

Just got through my Alien rewatch(been about ten years).

I have to say though, while still a decent movie I couldn't get over the cheesy 70s horror movie cliches that run rampant throughout.

......hey guys let's stick together ok! Never mind, you let the cat go so you go out by yourself now all of the sudden while we leave you, find yourself some shredded alien skin - decide NOT to report back - and instead carry on looking for the cat oblivious to the obviousness that the alien must be near you and then of course get killed.

At that point in the movie, they just thought it was a tiny little alien that could be easily trapped.

And they go after the cat because they don't want to stumble upon it again with the motion sensor. Really, they have one of the best reasons to split up in horror films, even if the end result is the same.

Nah, what would make realistic sense is they use the motion sensor to find the damn cat together.

I mean you have the damn thing, why split up and chase a cat blindly on a huge ship when it would be much easier and more efficient to use the sensor, find the cat together, then continue on looking for the alien.

I'm not saying it makes it a bad movie or anything, but stuff like that and the earlier part of the guy wondering off into the huge spaceship and fucking with the eggs just come off is not very realistic, but ignored anyways to further the story.

because why waste time and three people to find a cat?

Again, it's a matter of efficiency and already established precedent.

You have a fucking sensor that can track movement. You know one of the aliens already killed someone. You've established some level of danger associated with these creatures and decided earlier to stick together as a means to help mitigate potential danger.

You even reaffirmed the necessity of sticking together earlier in the scene......then all of the sudden it's "you go on by yourself and we will completely ignore you and leave you high and dry."

I know people dont want to admit faults to something that was endearing to them but It's not realistic however you spin it and it would be laughed at if any modern film tried to do it.

Modern films still do this shit all the time.... But usually it is "Oh there is a guy who has been murdering us all film long? Let's split up for no apparent reason."

here, I'm sure it is just one of those "How hard can it be to catch a cat?" things. Brett let the cat get away so obviously he gets to go get the cat.

Worse is the Vent scene where the big scare is the Alien popping out to hug Dallas.

Shitty modern films do it. Good ones learned that such patterns established an unbelievability in the characters and situations and takes most viewers out of the moment.

I see your not going to accept that it was a cliched and illogical moment. But it's not like it's the only moment in this film that strains an intelligent viewers sense of believability and makes use of old time horror cliches. I mean there's the ship scene where the captain fucks with alien eggs on a planet they know nothing about and they just saw another alien that was seemingly killed by something. Or when Dallas in the air ducts says he wants to leave and instead of going the way he came where he KNEW nothing could come from behind him because he had the ducts closed behind him he goes DOWN the ladder instead of back up.

Again it's a good movie, and I understand that such actions in films of the day hadn't become cliched and intolerable to most audiences yet, so I don't hold it against the film.

But you're playing arm-chair quarterback. The choices seem bad in retrospect because they lead to the character's death. In the moment (especially when, like Dallas, you're panicking in a vent with no clear understanding of where the Alien is- and going up requires you to wait for the vent to open back up) you aren't going to make the right choice unless you have the precision decision making abilities of an perfectly programmed computer.

Bear in mind that this are just a mining crew- they aren't trained to handle these creatures or situations and are completely flying by the seat of their pants, often unaware of just how deadly and serious the situation is.

Again, there isn't going to be convincing you because you obviously hold this film in too high of regard to see the obvious issues almost any person watching this movie for the first time today would see. Hence the excuses you are making for every scene I point out.

And watching it completely new is what I basically was doing with this film because I don't remember the movie almost at all after ten years. It was good, but there are plenty of eye rolling moments where it is almost unbearably bad how irrational they make the characters act in order to deliver a shock or horrorific moment to the viewer.

You make it sound like I saw it back in 1979 when it first came out. I didn't see it until maybe about 4 years ago. I'm just able to a) keep the film in it's original context and b) realize that these characters are human, not idiots. They make mistakes and pay for them... but they think are making split second decisions without the benefit of hindsight.

Rewatched the "DC" of Alien tonight. Going to watch theatrical tomorrow.

It's a mixed bag, like the Brett death scene. The DC adds the the superior glimpse of the alien on the chains, but also adds the part of Ripley and Parker showing up for a blood shower, which I know some people don't like.

The pacing issues of the Dallas egg scene could have been fixed easily, just have Ripley find it on the way to the self destruct controls rather than taking time out while the countdown is happening.

Yes and the viewer is in the same moment as the characters, and if I as a viewer can realize that what they are doing is so obviously stupid and going against what they have established earlier as intelligent or non intelligent behavior based on what the story has told the audience so far then I think I am completely right in drawing those conclusions.

Again, good movie, just some poor scenarios that strain the believability of the viewer.

That is a false comparison though. We the viewer are not at all in the same moment as the character. You are sitting on a comfy couch with the knowledge that this alien creature is the fabric of fiction. You have seen other movies that are similar in plot over and over again since Alien first came out. You have the knowledge of what to do and what not to do within a movie's framework.

They are actually stuck on this ship, extremely stressed out, confused, and at their wits end.

This is getting fucking stupid, get over it. A late 70s movie has characters that realize something is dangerous and lurking in the shadows but decide to split up anyways then continue on alone and investigate in spite of numerous warning signals that something is lurking. Not to mention an already established understanding that what is lurking is most likely dangerous.

......just because your precious alien movie is guilty of this silliness that became so cliche by the 90s that you had entire spoof genres(scary movie) and modern horror films(Scream series) demonizing how silly such scenarios are doesn't mean im trying to say this movie is bad or admitting such cliches existed in this film will diminish its role in horror history. Quit taking it so personal. Maybe to you such silliness makes sense, to me it comes off as a cheap way for the director to raise tension and attempt to set in a mood of dread.

That element didn't bother me.

What does bother me every. time. I watch ALIEN is: how does Dallas and Lambert get Kane out of the 'egg' room without triggering more facehuggers? :/

Why is
everyone freaking out over Yutani?

I thought Weyland-Yutani is the company from Alien and Weyland merged with Yutani?

Yes, but
it is unclear how that merger happened. All that was released thus far was Weyland related. Suddenly, a teaser with Yutani. How did it happen? Why? What's the connection?

Fucking June can't come soon enough!

Because the hype level reached "ridiculous" a while ago, I think...

Yes, but

Well, yeah, but... is it really worth getting excited over?

They're still trying too hard, but that video might have been the most tolerable viral bit so far. Of course, they just had to put that silly *dun-dun-duuuun* at the end, but hey...

Aha, I see.

Are there more viral videos coming?

Solid score, but very low key/ambient for the most part. Tracks by/involved with HGW tend to stand out though, track 5 is the standout imho.

Some spoilerish track-titles, so beware.
