Bah. Used a town portal to go to town, left game to auction something off, came back in and it put me in the map I ported from with everything reset. Silly game, why didn't you put me back into town?! And why can't you auction stuff in-game? Bah, I says.

Woah that Blizzard Downloader is really annoying. I've been trying to download the game since yesterday. I started it before going to work and when I came home the downloader was closed, it just closed itself after a 2gb. Started it this morning again with the same results. I'm now sitting at 4gb. FML.

What progress did you make? Correct me if I'm wrong GAF but I believe the world randomly regenerates on every load? So if you didn't hit a checkpoint then there is nothing specific to save. Also, did you get the waypoint? If that didn't save then you have an issue.

I'm pretty sure I hit a checkpoint when I entered the crypt, though not after I exited. Still, the entire forest area before the cemetery is blacked out again, as well as the crypt I cleared. I guess it's because nothing actually happened in all that time that carried the game forward. But it still ought to save my progress through the map. Now the OCD in me is going to force me to go through all that territory again.

How the fuck do I beat
Belial's
second form? The fuck?

Try equipping all of your healing/defence skills as Belial is immune to most effects. You just have to get the timing down to dodge the landmine things, they don't damage you until a few seconds after they appear. when he spams them, don't attack him and focus on healing and staying out of the way.

Whats the point of items you have to identify? You just right click to see what they are... why are they even in the game if there is no reason to have scrolls or to go somewhere to get them identified?

Probably something with the "feeling" of watching that bar to see what it will be to build a little excitement for the player.

Can you sell unidentified items on the AH? That may be why as well. Mystery adds value!

From what I've read, all those stats are accounted for in the DPS display. Including strength.

So if Item 1 DPS > Item 2 DPS.. use item 1.

I crafted one of the 17 dps journeyman wands, and it came out with a ton of int on it and yet its dps number didn't change from the base 17 number. My damage stat with it was significantly higher than my 20+ dps weapons. So that doesn't seem to be the case currently.

Is it better to dump money into crafting, or buy stuff from the merchants?

Also, things you craft, how does it compare to drops? I hate when games make crafting better than rarer drops.

Yeah I've noticed that as well. I don't think it updates the DPS stat on the weapon itself, but it should be updating it properly on your character screen.

Some notes from my game-athon yesterday (took the day off work).

Rebind your keys!!

ASDF for skills instead of 1234 and Space instead of shift for standing still. Man that makes the game like 1000 times more comfortable to play.

Bind the "Move" command to middle mouse button! It's unbound by default. It allows you to move without attacking anything. An absolute must for when you need to immediately wade through a big group of baddies to pick up a health globe. If you were to left click to move to the globe, you'd most likely accidentally attack something and not get the globe in time.

Turn on Elective mode! It should have been on by default. For those that don't know it allows you to put any skill on any of your 4 hotkeys... even two from the same category.

For example having both Ground Stomp and Leap from the defensive category on my barb. That combo is very very powerful. Jump into the middle of a group with Leap, Ground Stomp to Stun everyone then I use Cleave with the exploding enemies perk and everyone dies very very fast.

I've found the best way to attack for my Barb is to just hold down the left click then tap space bar to swing my sword. With the range and slowness of a two handed sword I can time the start of my swing before the mobs are within range and hit them just as they enter, before they can hit me.
Amazing advice!

You bought the game? I thought the beta turned you off from it. :O

this is correct. from what I've seen, only straight DPS (enh dmg, bonus damage, etc) is included in the DPS number. the stat bonus is not included in it. unfortunately it makes it impossible to derive actual DPS on stat bonus weapons without some quick math.

what would be nice is for blizz to update the item stat boxes where it shows the bonus damage on the side of the primary stat.. I would think they can then update the DPS accordingly.

Yeah I've noticed that as well. I don't think it updates the DPS stat on the weapon itself, but it should be updating it properly on your character screen.

correct. DPS on your profile is exact including bonuses. it just sucks that an item with 17.5dps and an item with 15dps and 10int becomes a math exercise. :(

Is there a way to hide your online status? I'd like to play a little singleplayer without getting asked by everyone on my friends list to play.

In the Options > Social I think it is, a box to turn off Quick Join.

At least that way you can't be surprised by somebody invading your game. You may still get requests, but you'd have to confirm allowing somebody into your solo session. And turning your status to Busy can't hurt either.

I do wish they would save the map visibility state when you log off... that seems like a minor concession to user friendliness.

It's just any +Damage or Attack Speed on the weapon itself that is used to calculate the tooltip DPS. +Stats don't change Weapon Damage directly but act as a damage multiplier later on. Which makes for weird damage scenarios I guess where enough +Stats makes for a better weapon despite a lower tooltip DPS.

lol this game is sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo goood when it works... :P

The stat boosts aren't going to be reflected in the weapon DPS because it can't, really--the stat boost is applied to your overall DPS. It wouldn't have anything to base the calculation on by itself.

One of the things that first confused me on weapons and equipping better ones is for my Monk with having a 2 handed staff, but then having two 1 handed weapons that had less DPS on them, but better stats otherwise. When you try to compare the 2 hander to two individual weapons, it will say it is better, because it only compares to one at a time, instead of taking into account both of what you have.

This means I have to always do manual equip/unequip and watch my characters stat screen for changes in DPS to make sure I'm making the right choice.

Str, Int and Dex stats don't actually show up on the weapon DPS number because different type of classes have different main stats. Because you are playing an Int based class, it'll increase your overall dps but that won't be the case if say you played a barb instead

holy tits, that specific boss in act 4 is really, really hard on nightmare.

I love it. Hopefully every enemy is this hard in inferno

I've noticed that as well. Maybe all but the Dex/Int/Str modifiers.

You can however set it to "away" or "busy".

Yeah, I guess. That doesn't change the fact that your friends can still see you online. And that means, spamming you, calling you up on skype, receiving tons of annoying sms asking to let them in your game, shit like that ruins the experience for me when I want to play completely alone.

Checkpoints aren't saved, those are just for when you die. The only things that are saved when you quit a game are items, experience, gold, waypoints, and objective completions.

The map is always randomly generated every time you start a game. That's pretty fundamental to Diablo. You think you heard a shitstorm when stat and skill points were removed, that would be nothing compared to static maps.

The stat boosts aren't going to be reflected in the weapon DPS because it can't, really--the stat boost is applied to your overall DPS. It wouldn't have anything to base the calculation on by itself.

What they could do is show a summary of how the weapon you have equipped and the weapon you're considering buying impact the DPS of each of your currently bound skills. That would be nice, and clear up a lot of confusion for the classes that rarely actually swing their weapons (WD, Wiz).

Closing in Act I with my 17lvl DH.

It sure is a bummer that the achievements didn't track at all, but as I'll be playing this game on and on, I don't think it'll be such a problem.

Seems that I'm one of the slowest players on my friends list, but I just want to take the game slowly. Exploring every hill possible and quest!

Which makes for weird damage scenarios I guess where enough +Stats makes for a better weapon despite a lower tooltip DPS.

Further, +Dexterity has no effect on the "Protection" change that an item provides, so keep an eye out for that if you're swapping out something with lots of dex for something with a bit of armor.

But +Int (and I assume the others) do impact the "Damage" stat that you see if you hover over an item while already having one equipped. That's giving you the difference in total DPS that you get after all bonuses.

he had a change of heart after learning about elective mode. Still makes no sense to me that it is turned off by default...

Yeah. I had no clue about that until today. Can't wait to get home and change it to being able to teleport fist into enemies as Monk, and then unleash hundred fists as I drop a bell on their candy ass without having to waste spirit on the other teleport move.

got to say though this morning died twice from lag being soo bad... not sure how some of you would consider Hardcore right now.... but played 5 hours 10 hours total so far on my monk.... :( shame to say I bought a legendary.. :( I know. need to say away from the auction House. this game is amazing!!!!

Crafting is the better money dump (assuming you mean leveling up your blacksmith) as you progress through the game. Crafted items are competitive with drops.

just click Advanced details or whatever and it brings up way more info about your character. Swap between two sets of weapons and look at the differences between them as far as dmg, crit, atk speed etc...

the weapon's DPS isn't affected by how much agi is on it. You can have a dagger that's 1.0 dps with a billion agility and the weapon itself would only do 1.0 damage, but you would obviously be doing a lot more damage from the agility bonus (or whatever stat is your primary)

If they didn't bother with an invisible mode for WoW or Starcraft, I doubt we'll see one here.

I'd buy if I had the $ lol. I'm always down to 500 gold tops after I get back to Tristram since I'm leveling the blacksmith non stop.

Because dumb people wouldn't read what are the resource generating attacks, slot only resource consuming attacks and die every 5 minutes because they can't use abilities. Or at least I guess that's it because it makes no fucking sense.

The only damage bonus you get from Dual Wielding is the increased Attack Speed which is factored in the stat screen display; +Damage and such on your Off-Hand doesn't do anything to your Main Hand.

Generally speaking, a 20 DPS Two Hander is better than Dual Wielding two 17 DPS One Handers. This changes as you have more +Damage on your Armor/Rings/Amulet so it's kind of a mess :/
