No worries, Yoshichan. You'll get it on your next L60 character later this weekend.
Along with all other achievements I didn't get, I hope?!

♥

Playing monk on normal is pretty fun, but I feel that every new skill I get is inferior to Fists of Thunder/Thunderclap and the Kick spin move (forgot what it was called). I have really good mobility with this rune and with the Kick I can AoE nicely and refilling HP at the same time with my passive skill.

I've been sticking with Fists of Thunder/Thunderclap too (level 18 here). The teleport is just too useful, especially when you're grouped with a DH who kills everything before I can see anything.

It's a shame because I really like the ability Monks get where they punch several times (eventually 10 times) in quick succession (not the one where they shoot around the screen).

I did, for a while there, use some other Spirit generating ability and relied on the dash to close the gap to enemies, but I feel I have some other more useful abilities that should be on my hotbar.

For the kick spin though I switched to the move where he drops a bell. Maybe it isn't as good as kick spin, I dunno, but I love dropping bells on people.

Also, and maybe it's just me. But Exploding Palm (Punch?) feels underwhelming even though I try to use it constantly. I think I have issues getting it activated because sometimes I hit the button to activate it but my Monk either won't do the move or it skips.

EDIT: Maybe I should make Exploding Palm (Fist? Punch?) right click instead of "1".

So, Wizard Q:

Just got Disintegrate. What am I missing...why wouldn't I use Ray of Frost instead? Hits harder, adds a slow effect, and gets even more powerful with either Rune available at this level.

Disintegrate shoots through things, so shooting through a whole line of enemies in a chokepoint, Ray of Frost on the other hand does not. I find Disintegrate with the rune that does the auto target AoE to be my Wizard's bread and butter at higher levels.

But I think by the time Im farther enough along that Ill be replacing these amazing items, getting 5000 gold will take almost no time. Honestly It already takes very little time.. like maybe 20 - 30 minutes. Is crafting with a levelled up artisan like ridiculously amazing or something?

I think it can be.

This is a useful crafting guide:

http://us.battle.net/d3/en/artisan/blacksmith/recipe/#page=2

Tells you what you need to craft certain levels and pieces of gear.

Crafting seems to definitely be useful for high-level stuff - Hell & Inferno - since those mats are quite expensive on the AH, at least at this point, along Legendary/Set items for the most part.

Crafting looks like it'll also come in handy for new characters you create, since you can use all those subtle essences/falling teeth you salvaged or bought to create legendary and even set items in Normal with your fully upgraded blacksmith.

I only played Diablo 1 before, but I remember that the stores were pretty useful. Merchant sold good items that could help you and were pretty powerful depending on your level.

Now in Diablo 3, I feel that they are completely useless. It really feels like they made them useless to encourage the usage of the auction house instead to get cool items.

It's a bit lame :|

Oh god, well at least they are salvageable from armor.

Apparently perfect gems drop pretty regularly in NM.

The better way to look at it is 3^(14-n), where n is the current gem level. With perfects, that still comes out to 19,683 perfect gems. I would say start stocking up while you can if you intend to EVER look at any of those crazy good gems.

Turn on elective mode and Left Click to teleport/thunderclap to the mob and then right click to 100 fists them to death

Just finished Nightmare Mode. Ended at lvl 50. I'm so stoked for Hell mode! But I need a damn break. But I'll continue later tonight! Huzzah!

So is it just me, or is the auction house making it really easy to get good items? i mean the ordinary gold auction house. For 5000ish gold per item, Ive been able to deck myself out in amazing gear that's way better than anything Ive been able to find, and my character has become extremely powerful. It seems like a way better use of gold than anything else.

Im level 17 hardcore on the asian server. I dont really get why these amazing items are going for so cheap. Like right now I bought a pair of gloves for 6500. Its got 54 armor, + 25ish vit, dex and int, +7% attack speed, and one other minor thing. Thats nutty.

Well, I spent 9k gold on a 1h Sword for my Witch Doctor the other day. I'm at work so I can't tell you the exact stats but it's something like 54DPS, +2-4 Lightning DMG, +1-3 DMG, 95 Intelligence, and a socket. I put a Perfect Ruby in there which is like 10-18 Damage. It was an absolutely massive upgrade.

That being said I had spent 6k gold about 5 levels earlier for a Ceremonial Dagger, and 3k gold another 6 or so levels before that for a Dagger. Technically I'm only spending a few hours with each new weapon before I upgrade it. Really it ends up being a lot of gold for such a short period of use.

They were useless in Diablo 2 as well. The only time you would spend gold at a merchant was to gamble for stuff usually.

I haven't bothered to sit down and do math on DPS, but with a 2h I feel spirit starved for the way I'm playing. That being said all your abilities will hit way harder with a 2h.

I'm reasonably confident this will be the trade off long term.

Two handed weapons will yield greater DPS on spreadsheet, but lower spirit/hatred/fury generation.

Dual wielding will yield lower DPS, but higher spirit/hatred/fury generation.

The question will be which is better: lower spreadsheet DPS with the ability to use more special abilities, or higher spreadsheet DPS with less special abilities? I'm not sure we have, or ever will have, a definitive answer to that.

It is important to note that if you aren't using your spirit/fury/hatred as you get it, you're essentially allowing the benefit of dual wielding to go to waste. If a large portion of your "extra" energy is simply lost because you already have full spirit/fury/hatred and it can't add any more, then you've lost considerable DPS. Expect dual wielding to be more active playstyle in general, I think -- you have to got be spamming abilities to put that extra resource to good use.

Oh I forgot to mention, I've only had 1 Legendary item. Which I sold for 24k. I better see some more of those drop in Hello mode. Hell, where's them set pieces!

It hits for Arcane so it's better for that type of build, especially once runed Arcane Torrent adds 15% dmg from subsequent arcane attacks. That's what I did until lvl 25. Just used Ice Armor and Wave of Force to keep rushing enemies in check.

Yea the current title doesn't apply. But people are still (understandably) confused about elective mode.

I tried to get a buddy to do it and explain why, but he just wouldn't do it lol.

I'm visiting him this weekend though and will show it to him in person.

Playing a witch doctor, and I'll be honest, it doesn't seem that useful. Maybe I'm just doing it wrong, but there's always at least one skill from each category I want to have at all times.

D2 they were incredibly worthless.

I've actually purchased a few items from vendors - including a rare sword early in my barbs lifespan that was useful for a handful of levels.

DH is worse. There's a bunch of skills with Vault, but why would you ever not want Vault?

It may be a lot for a short period, but I would say that only applies if you leave it dead in your inventory after you upgrade. There's nothing stopping you from selling it back after you upgrade for a similar price. If you thought it was a good deal then I'm sure someone else would think so too. Especially now since everybody playing is in various stages of leveling their characters.

Look at it this way: that 5000 gold provides a short term benefit, but it will be wasted gold once you upgrade that piece. Spending that gold on stash tabs or artisans provides a permanent benefit.

Some people are just giving up short term benefits to invest in the long term.

You can potentially resell the item on the auction house once you've found an upgrade. Of course, with all the new items getting added to the item pool every day and nothing to remove them other than vendoring/salvaging, prices have nowhere to go but down. It's quite possible that when you do try to resell, you won't be able to find a buyer.

This is one of the main reasons why MMOs implemented the "bind on equip" mechanic. Without that, eventually everything but the best of the best becomes dirt cheap.

The scoundrel is hilarious. He pretty much tries to steal everything, and if you're playing a female character he'll hit you on endlessly.

yeah I'm really like the follower dynamic. It makes running around killing random mobs even more entertaining. In act 2 once I met up with the enchantress I kept him around as long as possible. It was hilarious listening to him hit on her and my character (female monk) all the time. fem monk always shuts him down hard.

I have it on and that's probably my new plan. I'm too dense to think of these things WHILE playing ... no I think of them while sitting at work with 3 more hours til I can leave... UGH!

Why the fuck is that not the default? I wouldn't have found that out if I didn't keep coming to this thread... Why would you not want that?

What's worse is I know people who hovered over the option and just skipped it because the tooltip doesn't do a good job explaining what it does. Then when I explain it to them they invariably activate it immediately.

Elective mode shenanigans will go down in the annals of Blizzard history as one of their most brain-dead decisions.

My mind was just fucking blown.

whoa whoa, wtf?! was watching brad play and i thought he was talking complete non-sense shit.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8pWYMfagFEw&hd=1&t=9m34s

you can actually set multiple skills from the same category. wow Brad is awesome.
How did he do it? I have the option enabled, I just don't know how to setup the skills.

I agree with no definitive answer. I've heard the argument that, at the higher difficulties, you are forced to grind through mobs at a slower rate since it's unlikely your character will be able to withstand the damage output of high-level champions with multiple status effects; you're forced to run around avoiding getting ganged up on. This favors the 2H approach, since you will want to take full advantage of any attack openings that do open up.

But this is a very general statement and real fight mechanics will vary significantly.

What level are you? Elective mode isn't as useful off the bat for WDs since the first spells you get are pretty well demarcated, but after you hit about level 14 or so when stuff starts opening up a lot more, it becomes damn necessary.

Got to level 25 last night with my monk and found my first Legendary item, which conveniently enough was a monk only headpiece.

Also found a weird blue dagger with flavor text, but it doesn't seem to be on the d3 website database.

How did he do it? I have the option enabled, I just don't know how to setup the skills.

Select the skill bar you want to assign the skill -> click the little arrows on the left and right side of the skills selection to swap between skill sets

I hate how blizzard did this, just makes everything a little bit confusing at first.

is there a breakdown of how stats affect each character class, i.e. does intelligence do anything for a DH, or strength do anything besides armor for Witch doctor or wizard?

there are arrows at the top of the skill screen....

do you guys really need to be hand fed everything? this is directed you dino hunter, i jsut happened to quote you as most recent... but everyone not aware of changing skills... come on. what do you think those arrows are for?! just click and find out. why even turn on elective mode if you don't know what it does..... did you atleast read the tool tip before turning it on?!

Not sure about the breakdown but if you hover over an attribute on your character sheet (or a hireling's for that matter), it will tell you exactly what it does for you.

This seems really unnecessary. The game does a poor job explaining it, not sure why you feel the need to defend it.
