A little piece of advice for all of you guys entering fake U.S. addresses to order:

Pick an address in Oregon. They don't have sales tax.

Odd. I use Google HQ's address and I get charged the exact amount of Amazon's listed price, but I'll keep that in mind.

Another thing, I was checking the customer reviews of Borderlands GOTY and people claim that the DLC is contained in a download code in Gearbox site and reportedly having issues with recovering the DLC authorization when reinstalling the game or so. If I'm redeeming the code through Steam I shouldn't worry about that, right? Since it would download the DLC through it rather than Gearbox?

Yes. If it's a Borderlands GOTY key you're redeeming in Steam, don't worry about it.

FYI, Amazon doesn't collect sales tax in most states, only those where they have a corporate presence (and therefore where collecting is required by law): Kansas, Kentucky, New York (no corporate presence, but New York passed a somewhat controversial and potentially unconstitutional law which essentially requires Amazon to collect sales tax), North Dakota, and Washington. So really, any state other than those listed is fine.

Oh, well that figures. I picked NY because it's the closest state to me and I was getting sales tax, so I just assumed they would collect the regular state sales tax.

Crusader Kings II-$9.99, in some days. Alan Wake will be $15 tomorrow. If you go to the CheapassGamer forums there is a post in the Video Game Deals Thread that he responds to questions and updates regularly.

Where? I run the downloader and it just automatically downloads to my desktop. There are no options on the downloader.

Are you referring to the Amazon Downloader that you install and or the standalone ones? I think only the one with the green icon lets you setup the download folder

So I'm really interested in Gothic 4. I like mainstream, and frankly simplistic, WRPGs. Ill be playing with a controller too. Is it a fun ride for someone like me?

Are there speech options like games like Fallout 3?

As long as Beverly Hills 90210 (aka only american postal code I could think of) is doing fine I'm peaches :)

Are all Amazon.com games only available via Steam? GOG manages it to have it without that nasty DRM. They should try to create their own solution.

Nah, there are some that use Amazon's downloader and sometimes have SecuROM and the like. I thought Alan Wake was Steamworks everywhere? I had no idea GOG had a Steam-less version.

No - varies.

Read back a few pages there's some substance on the DRM thing.

Thanks!

Amazon started a download service in Germany. I only tried a free download and that used some really awkward service. Nonetheless, it was a service where you only needed to activate the game once and then don't have any further issues. Even if there is some DRM, they should make sure that the game still works without an online connection and does not require some kind of client.

tbh I didn't even know they had Alan Wake so...

Edit: or is this supposed to be a joke? because it's totally lost on me :(

CDP has spent many years clashing with as many American game companies as they can in order to look like the messiah of gaming.

And it's worked. They are the Hipsters of the Industry.

What say you GAF? I'm with this guy, and looking for easy-peasy, controller enabled Euro jank RPG.

I've enjoyed PB's Gothic and Risen series, Two Worlds II, Divinity II, etc. Worth the $5?

They seemed to have spawned a bunch of followers who can't seem to grasp the concept that some people want things like cloud saving, achievements, and other features that require an online connection, or what they label as DRM.

If the developer/publisher only made a Steamworks version of their game, then there's no option for those who doesn't want those things (a bunch of Steam followers can't seem to grasp that concept too). Which is why what Remedy did with Alan Wake and Amazon with Divinity 2/Bioshock 1 and 2 need to be replicated more.

I'm not sure publishers are going to see any value in that and Alan Wake is the only game to remove Steamworks for a platform.... and it was self published on PC.

Nope. CDP likes to pretend that all forms of perceived (<-- the key word) DRM are evil and that Valve is killing the industry by doing 80% off sales that GoG is too tiny to do. This was right before they marked some older games off by 75% or so to sell it for $2-$3.

I don't have much of a problem with this. It's just annoying when you don't have an online connection and still want to play the game.

Yeah, I'm aware of that, I thought Stallion was referring to it :)

CDP are among the good guys so I can't really get mad at them even though I love Steam and Steamworks games.

I can tell you that the amount of sales we're currently generating by offering both a Steam and DRM free version of Divinity II is incremental and awesome.

This is a message I will continue to broadcast to any developer that will listen to me.

I don't have a ton to comment on here other than to say that I think the guys over at CDP are awesome and I have a ton of respect for them. As someone who entered video game marketing on the Digital side they are definitely someone I respect alot. I think they are frank and transparent in their communication and really have the customer's best interest at heart.

Obviously this is conjecture as I haven't ever had a conversation with any of those guys...just my outsider's impression.

Cheers,
Tony

Your attitude is even better than your deals :o

I'm just glad a DD rep is aware that a dickish attitude toward other DD platforms isn't a wise move. That is something that the other DD platform in question fails to understand.

What's the ratio? Also, Divinity 2 doesn't actually use any Steamworks features which kinda misses the point of why people like getting Steamworks in their games.

I still don't think any big pubs are gonna listen.

Sorry dude, I can't share the ratio.

One of the features is having the game linked to your Steam account though.

This seems to be what most of the people buying the Steam version are excited about...the concept of having it in their virtual library.

Cheers,
Tony
