In continuation of me making sets with smaller brick counts, I decided to make my own imperial shuttle. I do not like the small imperial shuttles that lego offers. However, I cannot afford the UCS imperial shuttle. So I designed this model:

Including the stand, it is 516 bricks. I am happy with my result and think it looks great. When I get more money I'll bricklink it.

If the top fin just regular bricks, or a mix of technic bricks and regular ones? If not technic, that is going to be extremely fragile. The wings look good for cutting down on the piece count though.

I'm putting together the Shield Helcarrier and noticed one of the monitor sticker has Space Invaders. Guess they couldn't get a Galaga sceenshot.

I like it.

I don't have enough pieces to make my own MOC in real life. Not without tearing down my other big sets, and I dont want to do that.

The MOC Modular I want to try and make is a corner building, but the inside of a curve instead of the outside like Cafe Corner and Grand Emporium are.

I found my old LDD file for it, it's pretty old obviously since lego has since made a pet store, I think this was back when you were limited to pieces\colours in LDD too. Never was happy with it and never finished the roof.

Good news!! Just got back from a late night run to Walmart. Went down the aisle, nothing new... then I saw skids stacked up with fresh cases of sets. I started looking and saw some older sets, like Jay's Storm Fighter and Forest Police. Looking through the last stack I spotted Uruk-hai Army! Found a employee that was eager to help and he got someone to open the cases for me. Here are the sets I was able to find. So they are making their way into stores, hopefully the big ones will show up soon and Monster Fighters! DON'T PAY the TRU tax!

I picked up the Mini Modular tonight and got my free Hulk. Also grabbed two Series 7 minifigs and got the two I was looking(bunny and space marine) for without really feeling so tonight has been a good night.

Is it sad that my favorite part is the dumpster? It looks great, but the dumpster is a great touch.

Yeah one idea I had that I will probably never get around to is doing a modular companion MOC, was thinking a little park with a little alleyway down one side so I could still use the dumpster and phone booth.

or a collection of baseplates to fill in the gapes behind buildings. Could be a neat design project.

Finished my rebuild of Green Grocer tonight.

And a shot from the back! BIG jump in the amount of interior and exterior detail with this set.

Some of the railings on the fire escape are made out of spear guns. And black skeleton legs and hammers are used to make a wrought iron fence.

Ohhhhhh that's even better!

On a different note, I still can't decide between the VW Van and one of the modular sets to give to my wife. I would have leaned towards the VW Van if it wasn't for the fact that she already has the VW Bug. Decisions, decisions...

If she likes old VW then the van is perfect. It's a gorgeous build that is fun to build and great to display.

Modulars are cool too, but it sounds like the camper would be more suitable.

Well, it is just normal bricks. However, if you are confusing the size of the set, its probably 1/4 of the UCS imperial shuttle. I tested out the fin using bricks I own and its very sturdy and once placed on a larger plate, it does not move. I am sure it is going to be fine.

Bumped for the night crowd feedback:

LEGO storage question time.

According to my collection report on Bricklink, between all of my sets I have about 70,000pcs among 120'ish sets. The problem of storage is starting to rear its ugly head. Up to this point, I've kept all the pieces in the boxes they came in, but the amount of space over 100 sets take up is getting a bit much.

How do those of you also with large collections handle the storage dilemma? Do you keep your sets together, do you break them apart and separate the pieces into organizer boxes? Do you put all the pieces (from a set or a theme/year) together in a zip-loc bag and flatten the boxes? Do you rent a storage container?

Long post, bit it's difficult to go through storage and not put detail in - hopefully something useful in here for you.

I might try and take some photos of our storage, but basically you just need drawers/boxes and break down by category (not colour. It's easier to find a blue 1x1 among other colour 1x1 bricks, than trying to find a blue 1x1 in a box full of different sized blue bricks). Our current setup is fine, but might need expansion when we break down the modulars and tower bridge (still have to build that so no hurry), but a good system should allow for expansion anyway. We have

- one big wooden chest of drawers built by my father with four drawers, each around 1.5 x 3ft, divided into 4-6 sections internally. In that I have
- one drawer for 1x and 2x bricks. Separate sections for different sizes to help prevent small pieces get lost among big ones, and quicker to find a certain size). 1x1 and 1x2 go together, 1x3 and 1x4, then longer than 1x4. 2x2 and 2x3 together, 2x4 on its own, then longer than 2x4. As the collection grows it'll be simple enough to expand and have a section per brick size as it
-one drawer for 1x and 2x plates, sectioned as above. I keep 1x1 plates in a separate box as they get lost too easily
- one drawer for slopes (sectioned into 45 degree, 33 degree, steep (not sure what degree they are), and inverted. I have 4x and larger plates in here too.
- one drawer for misc special pieces. This is basically the inside of a Lego advent calendar to give me lots of little boxes, where I keep things that don't have enough pieces for their own box, but are still useful to separate. So things like spanners, skis, skeleton/droid legs etc. this drawer also has larger compartments for minifig accessories and larger misc pieces (barrels etc) which all sit together.

Next to that I have a tower of 7 smaller drawers which holds things that aren't standard building bricks/plates, but can be categorised in common sections.
- curved bricks
- tiles
- wedge plates
- wheels
- house pieces (windows, doors, panels etc)
- car pieces (windscreens, seats ,steering wheels etc)
Etc.

Finally I have mini craft boxes which hold common small special bricks.
- headlight bricks, 1x1 round plates, 1x1 round bricks, things that you use often but are difficult to put in other sections and are small so would get easily lost amongst other bricks. obviously your definition of 'common' special will probably differ based on what you build. You could do the same with a drawer/box with dividers, but I happened to have boxes at hand, and it helps to have lids to prevent accidents when my kids are playing with the Lego.

You can keep some sets separate if they are special, sorting is really helpful for MOCing etc.

Try and find boxes/drawers that work with your room, can ideally be expanded later, and are suited to dividing up if necessary. In hindsight I'd prefer to find a drawer system and stick with it so it was more consistent - I have a bit of a hodge podge now

Green grocer is one I'd like from the OOP modulars. After bricklinking cafe corner and being a little disappointed by the lack of interior and rear detail, that green grocer looks like a big step up. Anyone bricklinked it? Prices to buy aren't quite as insane as CC so might be cheaper to buy intact.

I'm also a little worried that it'd look out of place in a street with the pet shop, which has similar bay windows etc but is noticably smaller. Anyone got both together?

Was the first person to pick up the free Lego at my WHSmiths. Thought the guy in front was after them since he bought four copies of the Sun and 16(!) minifigures (the whole row of series 3), but he forgot to ask for the freebie.

50p for a Lego model ain't bad.

How does it work? Is there a voucher In the paper I take to WH Smiths?

Yes. In my WH smith they asked if I wanted the Lego when I bought the newspaper, didn't have to tear the voucher out or anything.

Batman is pretty nice. Licensed Minifig plus a few nice pieces. Probably won't bother with the city sets during the week, they look like filler. But batman and ninja minifigs are good

And here I was hoping for some Beano style method of attaching the bag to the paper ;)

Hope they still have some around on Monday then, can't be going all the way into Newcastle centre every day to pick up one little thing each time.

I don't know, there was a similar promo for Star Wars at TRU a while back. We got there an hour or so after opening and all were gone. In the time I was there this morning, just after opening, I saw five go.

Fortunately with the TRU one you could save all the coupons and send off for the whole lot, so we did that. Don't know if they're doing something similar this time though. I'd say if there are one or two you really want, make the trip if you can.

Maybe because they just opened up but I had to ask for my bag. Nice to have a Batman figure finally. Never got one the first time round since the only set I bought was the UC Batmobile.

Getting it in Smiths is easiest as they just give it to you, but there is a voucher for collecting them at Toys R Us.

10:30 is when my local opens tomorrow. Probably won't bother with the rest.

I grabbed the last 2 Batman Jetski polybags from my TRU this week. Neat little set!

I grabbed one for myself, and another for someone on here, in case anybody wants it. Just asking for the $5 I paid for it, plus shipping.

EDIT:
Is it sad that my favorite part is the dumpster? It looks great, but the dumpster is a great touch.

May I borrow that dumpster design? Been thinking about making a "seedy" environment for the modular line, and the dumpster would go great in a back alley. :D

That's incredibly nice of you, I'm someone here would love to have one.

Personally I'm more than happy with my Batman from the Catwoman set. Really only new one caped crusader to protect my modular city, especially with Wolverine also hanging around.

Got the mini modulars set and a hulk minifig yesterday.

My gf also bought me the Captain America and Loki escapes avengers sets, a few minifigures (more space marines!) and a calender for herself to get another hulk minifig.

They didn't have any lotr sets in yet. I guess I'll just get Gandalf arrives when I go back and get the sopwith.

I'm surprised to read people buying multiple copies of the Batman Jetski. Is there anything of great value to it. I understand 50p Lego is a great deal but some people are going nuts.

How many are people grabbing, then?

I imagine most are getting it for the minifig.

Well I'm sure the guy in front of me was meant to pick up four. I wonder if he realised he forgot the bags. I can just go by what I've read since I was out of the shop well before anyone was aware of the deal that morning. The only parts that seem to be of any interest are the front slope and perhaps the computer. Don't see why you'd need more than one Batman.

http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/affiliates/lego/

Wondering if anyone can see any other pieces that could be of interest.

That Batman jetski was only available at TRU in the US, so it was going for like twice the price on bricklink when I bought mine :/

Yeah I was down at 3pm and they'd sold out in Newcastle. Fucking bullshit, some greedy twats around taking them all up.

Kind of glad I got there as they were opening. My mum has followed similar promotions before so she warned me this stuff can disappear quickly, but that's usually for books where people probably only pick up one copy. They really should have put a limit on how many per customer were allowed.

The polybags are mixed. The Batmobile so far looks to be UK exclusive whereas the the Tie Fighter is apparently pretty common.

So I wasn't able to get the LOTR sets at the LEGO store in Raleigh. Tried the Target at Brier Creek and nothing,so we went to Walmart and they had three different sets. I bought those and they had a few left. The rest of the stuff I got from the LEGO store. I almost picked up the Tie Fighter.

I have the same married couple, do you plan to use them in the foresable future? :P

My wife just sent me pics again while I am at work. It looks like she bought all of the Monster Hunter sets except the lab and zombie ones, and only because they didn't have them. She said we're taking them out of this year's Halloween fund, haha. (We budget $300-350 per year for Halloween decorations)

Are all the people in this thread millionaires by the way? Or do you guys simply have a rather large budget for LEGO (instead of a holiday for instance)
