Has anyone played the Heroica games? I've always kinda been intrigued by them, and then I saw them all on sale for 50% off today. So it's like $45 for the entire first run of them. Any thoughts are appreciated.

Monster Fighters looks so awesome, and these kinds of stories aren't even my thing.

They look great. When I originally heard about the theme, I was lukewarm at best. But seeing the Vampyre Castle and the zombie graveyard, along with this little werewolf set and the swamp monster set... And that ghost polybag!! I'm really quite happy with them. I have to find some money down the road to get more than just the castle.

My son loves those. They're not too bad, kinda simple, but still fun. I want to get more, just to make a bigger game board.

May I ask where you saw them on sale? We could use a few more sets.

The Sun's Lego offer starts tomorrow fellow Brits!

I have it written on the back of my hand to remind me in the morning.

Also is anyone else not really a fan of how they do the werewolf/wolverine claws? Part of me would've preferred they just gave them different hands.

It's a chain called The Learning Express. They're not exclusive to here. Their prices are normally a little higher than MSRP, but the prices for all the Heroica sets are the standard, and they're 50% off. I'll be happy to get you couple if you want to PayPal the money for them and the shipping!!

Lol....this minifig is awesome.

He looks like some oldschool colonial bastard who would let himself be carried around by locals while shooting elephants.

I know! I cant decide if he or the Werewolf is the coolest minifig in that set. The car in it looks badass, and the tree is definitely a unique build. Very fun and small set.

Trying to not buy the MF sets from TRU...they look so cool but I'm hoping they show up soon on the Lego Store...I want those VIP points.

Anywho I got 15 bucks off for the Lego store...which LOTR set should I buy?

I think the Mines of Moria set and the Helms Deep set are the nicest overall, but you're missing some key characters in both of them. If you love dem minifigs, it's tough to tell. LEGO is really milking it for all it's worth, with how the company divided the figures up amongst the sets.

Of course, with Wethertop being a high price per brick set, you could use that discount to offset it and take it down to a better price. And get two Ringwraiths to boot.

Yea, I'm undecided between Helm's Deep and Weathertop...I'll probably end up just buying both, lol. Really wish all the minifigs were in one set but noooooo.

I say go Weathertop now just to use the discount and get a good price on it. Helm's Deep is priced well for the number of bricks. Weathertop is not really.

First of all, fuck toys r us for having all of the new sets and ridiculously overpricing them. Second, I did get lucky at a thrift store and got a nifty Lego gold storage case with tons if Legos inside so all was not lost

I finally had some time to take a couple photos of some of my new minifigs. I haven't gotten to take any of my space marine army yet, but hopefully soon.

This guy is courtesy of my coworker. I mentioned yesterday after getting my second bunny fig that now I wanted the dinosaur man too! Apparently he had an extra still in the bag and placed it on my desk today, so thanks a lot to him!

Looks like no LEGO hulk mini-fig or LOTR sets for me until the real stores get them, in. The website refuses to let me place an order. Hit the final place order, and it just goes back to the same page. No error message, no nothing.

Only series 5 fig I really, really want. Anyone got a spare to trade?

Here's a quick breakdown with my opinions of them, Bolded I have already ordered, italic I plan to get and underscore I'm on the fence about, anything else I'm not really interested in.

9469-1.jpg

Gandalf Arrives - Cheapest set, the only one Gandalf comes in and has a unique frodo from the other sets, probably the most different in style than all the others.

9470-1.jpg

Shelob's Lair - Only set with Gollum and Samwise, the Shelob looks pretty decent, "cave" bricks a bit pointless.

9471-1.jpg

Uruk-hai Army - Seems like a really good deal for the price, 6 minifigs, a horse, a catapult and a sizeable wall piece that can attach to the helms deep set. 4 Uruk-Hai, Eomer (only found in this set) and a rohan soldier.

9472-1.jpg

Weathertop - Aragorn, Frodo and the only set with Merry plus 2 ringwraiths and 2 black horses. The set itself doesn't have a lot of new or different pieces but it looks pretty good to me.

9473-1.jpg

The Mines of Moria - This set will get you a majority of the fellowship in one hit, Legolas, Gimli, Pippen and Boromir. It also comes with 2 Moria Orcs and a Cave Troll. All of the fellowship with the exception of Gimlin are exclusive to this set. The set itself is a bit ordinary, especially given the fact that most of the details you see on it are stickers.

9474-1.jpg

Helm's Deep - Biggest and most expensive of all the sets, comes with Aragorn, Gimli, Haldir, King Théoden, Berserker Uruk-hai, 3 Uruk-hai and a horse. I'm on the fence about this one because the fellowship that are in it I can get in other sets, I do like the fact that the Uruk-Hai Army set but the set itself and the exclusive minifigs in it I'm not too interested in so I'll wait and see.

9476-1.jpg

Orc Forge - Quite expensive for what you get, probably because of the light brick. You only get 4 minifigs, 2 orcs and 2 uruk hai including Lurtz, nothing terribly amazing in the set itself unless you want a light brick, the armour pieces with the hand of saruman on it are cool though.

Dropping the front cheese slopes for sidewalk access is a good idea. I do like the ones on the sides.

As for the lamps over the tables, perhaps dropping them down or making them space heaters could be neat. Or perhaps into plants. But looking at it, the lamp on the chain post next to the tall lamp post is overkill. The lights near the door will most likely stay.

The spacing for the pegs and sidewalk do match modular guideline. Was sure to keep that. Brainstorming interior details now. Trying to figure out a simple yet neat espresso machine to build for the coffee bar.

Yeah dropping the cheese slopes facing outwards would probably achieve the same effect as moving the building back, just give a bit more of a clear sidewalk.

My very first attempt at a modular, I wasn't happy with the results but I liked the idea of having the entrance sunken in more than the rest of the facade, I had limited pieces at the time when I built it so it's quite clunky. I'm still keen on exploring that style of entrance, perhaps one that is actually similar in design to the pet store but perpendicular to the road so the door enters sideways. Something different at least from the usual modulars.

here's a pic of it anyway, you could kind of picture it with a door going sideways instead of straight on. My original design was wider with a little alley down the side with a dumpster and telephone booth but I ran out of pieces.

Question about the 10231 Shuttle, men: can I display it upright without the baseplate? Will it be sturdy enough? I'm starting to gravitate towards sets that I can display these days.

TANKS.

I like it.

I don't have enough pieces to make my own MOC in real life. Not without tearing down my other big sets, and I dont want to do that.

The MOC Modular I want to try and make is a corner building, but the inside of a curve instead of the outside like Cafe Corner and Grand Emporium are.

LotR sets seem so cheap on the figures.

No Legolas in Helm's Deep?

No, well, everyone in Mines of Moria.

They're being really stingy. Least with the Marvel sets it doesn't feel like we're being screwed into buying tons of sets for figures. All the right figures show up in the various sets.

Not really. You could ditch the baseplate, but you will still need the supports for it. Problem I have is that it still leans, so the shuttle tail gets bent upwards.

If I can take a pic tomorrow, I will.

Bumped for the night crowd feedback:

LEGO storage question time.

According to my collection report on Bricklink, between all of my sets I have about 70,000pcs among 120'ish sets. The problem of storage is starting to rear its ugly head. Up to this point, I've kept all the pieces in the boxes they came in, but the amount of space over 100 sets take up is getting a bit much.

How do those of you also with large collections handle the storage dilemma? Do you keep your sets together, do you break them apart and separate the pieces into organizer boxes? Do you put all the pieces (from a set or a theme/year) together in a zip-loc bag and flatten the boxes? Do you rent a storage container?

Hmm. Base plates are unsightly. Thanks, dude.

I'm torn between the 10231 Shuttle, the 10220 Camper Van and the 7964 Republic Frigate. Persuade me!

My first MOC is complete. Behold, the Mini-Modular Shaun of the Dead WINCHESTER!

KEC7ul.jpg
pIYafl.jpg

Well, it's not technically MY OWN creation since I found instructions for it from someone who had already built it, but I did do a few tweaks of my own.

-The original model had a 8x9 base, and I wanted it to have the same 8x8 base that the other mini-modulars have.
-The "curved" section of the Winchester was originally secured by only a single stud and it pivoted to get its angle which I didn't like. I used one of those 1x4 plates that have a hinge in the middle which made it more secure and also stopped the edge of the wall from going past the sidewalk.
-And finally I added the little zombie guy. Technically he's the shrunken voodoo head from the Harry Potter Knight Bus set, but since I find that thing to be an abomination created for the movies, I left him out of that set to make it canonical with the books. ;D

The only thing I kinda dislike is that the roof part of the curved section is actually not attached to anything, it just stays in place with friction. I disapprove of this method on principal, but it actually works much better than I expected.

I got a bunch of Stanley Sortmaster Pro toolboxes and sorted all of my old collection. Now, I have yet to break down the insane amount of sets I have bought this year, but sorting it all out by brick takes time but keeps things organized and easily hide-able in an apartment. Nicoga was using a bunch of plastic food containers for his bricks which he kept on a shelf. That style might be what I do from now on because it is easy enough to grab what you need without having to lay out a bunch of tool boxes, and easier to sort through smaller containers.

Haha. MAN. How much kesh do you think I have?

Save up. Imperial Shuttle will disappear before the Camper Van. And is an incredible display piece. Almost everyone that has come to my home had no idea it was a Lego set until I pointed it out. The only other set I have that dwarfs it is Tower Bridge. At least until I sneak the SSD into the home and await my wife's wrath.

Camper Van has a lot of time left. Republic Frigate will go away soon, but is easier to find than the Imperial Shuttle is. Space Shuttle I am not sure, but it is a great set for the price (that I still need to get.)

But the Imperial Shuttle was the first HUGE set I ever bought, and I was hooked.

Were I a huge Star Wars fan, I'd think about biting, but I'm not. And so far, the only SW sets I've invested in are the vehicles that I think look swish, regardless of their SW heritage. The Imperial Shuttle is nice, but not nice enough for me to drop the bones on it.

Give yourself to the Dark Side! One of the most impressive things about the Imperial Shuttle is the sheer size of it. Pictures cannot convey just how monstrous it really is. If curious about construction, I did do a time lapse video of it.

That should give you an idea of complexity and sheer size of it.

But anyways, of the sets you listed, the one that intrigues me the most is Camper Van. And that seems to be one of the most universally loved and well regarded sets on here. Shuttle Expedition is as well, but Camper Van seems to get more feverish devotion.

any way to know in advance when a set will be available at amazon? That gandalf sold out horrifyingly fast the other day, and I'd like to pick up some lotr or monster fighters.

If wanting to get in person and not pay the Toys R Us tax, I know Barnes and Noble stores will be getting the LOTR sets by mid June. A friend who works there says there should be a display for them even at the smaller stores and they are actually MSRP. I am waiting for that since membership discount and some coupons work.

Why thank you. That sounds like a good idea. The closet lego store WOULD be reachable with a car, but I am a college student with no car, and the hour or more of public transportation each direction to get there isn't worth it.

In continuation of me making sets with smaller brick counts, I decided to make my own imperial shuttle. I do not like the small imperial shuttles that lego offers. However, I cannot afford the UCS imperial shuttle. So I designed this model:

Including the stand, it is 516 bricks. I am happy with my result and think it looks great. When I get more money I'll bricklink it.

Toys R Us has the stuff now, but severely marked up. Lego.com has the stuff, but factor in shipping. I am just waiting for local BN to get it. Their sets are usually at MSRP (except minifigs, which are $4. I have no idea why.), and a membership gets you 10% off every set. Got most of my creator sets from there and most of my Star Wars sets. Lots of times winds up being the cheapest place for regular sets. Just wish they got the 10000 series sets.

Probably going to grab one of the Dino sets from them soon. I need a T-Rex to put guns on.
