Diablo III |OT2| Queues Rise. Servers Fall.

Yes.

So basically you're relegated to farming gold so you can get another piece of gear off the AH since getting anything useful to drop is literally playing the lottery.

What I dont get is, where are the crazy auction house items coming from? Are they effectively hand me downs from higher level characters who dont have a use for them?

Everyone says drops suck and crafting sucks. So where are the auction house items coming from if not from higher level characters? You cant just say theyre coming from the huge number of people playing, because theres also a huge number of people trying to buy them.

If they are really hand me down items, then the auction house should be less useful at end-game.

Having an offline option to play the game would really be useful now! I'm sure the EULA states that any inability to play due to server issues etc is completely reasonable and there's fuck all you can do about it ("we have your money...go away").

That's how D2 was though. The only difference in D3 is uniques have random stats on them instead of just a varying range on stats, which makes the uniques a lot less appealing in D3. Also getting crappy loot should be happening, and I'm surprised it isn't more often. If I had a dollar for every time hell meph dropped a level 20 or lower item I'd be a billionaire. Hell, if I had a dollar for every time hell meph didn't even drop any loot I'd still have around 20 dollars. Thus far all of the loot in D3 has just been randomized things that are level appropriate for the content that it dropped from.

The point being that you could farm bosses in several minutes in a rinse repeat process whose drop tables were significantly shifted towards the higher end items vs the normal mobs, where that option is not present in D3.

I've found plenty of great stuff in inferno and I'm not sure what that image is supposed to prove. RNGed items should always have higher potential and I'm sure there are some legendaries that have the potential to be extremely good.

This. Plus, set items have the potential to be among the best equipment in the game.

Has anyone gotten any full high level sets yet? Curious to see the stats on some of that stuff.

So the guy who beat inferno solo has a nice report on the classes and game in general:

Wizard is god-like in hell/inferno. They're doing it wrong if they are complaining. It's the undisputed best damage class right now, both solo and in groups. Demon Hunter possibly/probably pumps out more raw damage, but it has worse survivability and utility by a lot. Smoke Screen is cool though.

Witch Doctor does not stack up well at all after you get past act1. Act1 is a joke and witch doctor does great with a few minor exceptions. Witch Doctor is good on all of the boss fights, although
belial
phase 3 is sketchy for witch doctor on inferno. It won't matter though as long as you bring a wizard, and WD has sick utility as well as consistent damage (but subpar damage for actually killing the mobs) for the first two phases.

Once you get to act3, WD gets benched for pretty much anything else, and then you can bring it in again for
Azmodan
runs. I'm not sure if they ever tried casting spells with witch doctor in testing, but you go oom almost instantly and even a 24/7 zombie bears, which isn't realistically possible, is not exactly out damaging the other damage dealing classes. And you have to dedicate 2 skill slots to it, constantly spam your defensives at bad times leaving you vulnerable, and use two passives to power it, sacrificing your ability to not get one hit in the process. And there's a bad range requirement. And it's not even that much better than blow darts on single target.

I could go on for a long time about the various class mechanics that just don't work, most passives being effectively useless, and the majority of the skills bordering unusable for one reason or another. I really think witch doctor just wasn't really tested well. It's full of stupid design concepts where someone went "oh that sounds cool" and then no one actually made it work within the context of the game. For example, Haunt ticks back 155 health in inferno. That's not even 1% of your health, and even if it ticked 1% it wouldn't be overpowered because survivability is currently a lot more about not getting one shot or having outs. Another example, Blood Ritual is worse than the other two or three mana regeneration talents and 1% hp regeneration is not good at any point in the game.

I enjoy witch doctor anyway. The skills that are usable are fun, and we have a few great skills. Spirit Walk, Grasp of the Dead, and Soul Harvest are nice. Poison Darts are a necessary evil as far as I know. Spiders can technically out damage it, but in practice it doesn't happen. Haunt isn't bad single target, the 288% arcane one is actually sick, but I haven't found a way to reasonably power it. It's not actually good enough to give things up to power it, especially because it doesn't work good on groups like damage over time skills did in WoW. Giving haunt a small area effect or upping its damage would be nice. Locust Swarm and Grasp are decent abilities, but with the 6 skill limit and a lack of feasible things to back them up with (like some short cooldown aoe that doesn't cost a ton of mana) they put you in an awkward place choice wise. It just doesn't add up to even remotely competitive area damage, and if you create a build that does your single target will be terrible and/or run you out of mana which makes you useless.

A lot of things are like that, or have some really dumb drawback. Spirit Barrage Manitou's range is practically point blank, Spirit Barrage's phantasm does pathetically low damage for how impossible the positioning requirements are (it matches Haunt/Locust Swarm damage per second, and Locust swarm costs less mana if 3 or more monsters are there and propogates itself for guaranteed damage), the zombies that charge out from you for decent weapon damage have no range at all for a 25s cooldown that only does 475% weapon damage once, mana spiders don't seem to be designed to actually work with any ability well (although they are cool and if Spirit Barrage or a few other abilities get "fixed" they could be used as mana regeneration filler), acid cloud can't really be spammed effectively but doesn't have a cooldown so it can't trigger vision quest and isn't too great in single target fights (giving it a cooldown and some higher damage per cast would be nice), and there's a ton of skills that are practically identical and all subpar in their own way. Support wise you don't bring enough support to be pure support, especially because of enrage timers and regeneration. You have to bring some level of damage. Overall, you are just left feeling incomplete no matter which build you try to make. Other classes really don't feel that way.

You can make builds for specific fights that work, and you do have some amazing things. I mean WD has been present for most of the inferno progression boss kills because it does bring a nice something to the table. It's a viable class and I have no intention of switching. I enjoy playing it in fights, and you can do some very clutch things with it. Just don't expect paradise or even being able to solo well after act 1 inferno. The build situation is disappointing. There are no wd builds. You just grab whatever for the situation and rely on other classes to fill the gaps.

edit: I've tried Zombie Bear build, summoning builds (although not with really stacked summoning gear), the build I use which is fairly close to the one method's wd and a few others came up with, and a whole bunch of other things today. I spent most of the day trying to come up with a situational build that is better for something, and I really came up short. Witch Doctor just feels like a WoW class shoved in to diablo, and because of the skill limit and different game mechanics nothing really works out as it should. It does have a few great strengths, and you can solo stuff fine for a while. It has great group utility at times as well. It just doesn't mash together to make something complete in area appropriate gear.

Read it, hasn't changed my mind. They are owned by Acitivision, they have huge influence over the company, if they choose to let them do their own thing because they're highly profitable isn't relevant to the option of control.

Activision does not "own" Blizzard.

Blizzard is owned by Vivendi and was been brought under the same holding company that Activision is under. Not disagree about the factor of control in this just clarifying the hierarchy of owner ship that exists.

Is that yours? Looks fucking insane!

They probably come from high Magic Finds and Champions/Elites. The game isn't about boss runs. Better loot has been shifted towards unique mobs to keep silly boss farming from being the thing to do yet again.

I'm not having connection issues, but still wildly fluctuating FPS - avgs 12-15. It's terrible.
I have yet to play this game smooth in the 2 days ive owned it.

It can't possible be my rig, can it?

Intel core i7 CPU Q820 @ 1.73 GHz
6GB Ram
GeForce GTX 260M (1024MB GDDR3 dedicated video memory)
Latest driver (296.10)

Doesnt matter if I put it highest or lowest settings, pretty much same result.

Hit level 60 at about 3:30 AM. Trying to take a day away from the game, but I'll resume the item hunt after that. I didn't find a single Legendary or set item during any of my runs.

My thoughts on inferno so far.

Inferno is miserable. Cleared Act 1 but died more times than I can count.

Act 2 inferno is extremely miserable.

Act 1 can be a pain in the ass.
Resist gear + vit + character stat = most important it seems.
High DPS weapons are also a must.

Stacking MF gear is dumb and honestly should just rely on the MF buff in inferno.

WTF?? I really don'T understand how the save system works in that game...

I'm doing a quest in Act 2 nightmare right now. After I did 1 or 2 steps one of my friend asked me some help to kill the last boss of the game on normal so I joined his game to help him. When I got back to my game I had to restart the quest from the beginning.

Now, I kina expected that even if I think it's stupid. The thing is, I finished that quest and a bunch of others after that. I then had to go away for something and I lost connection to the server after a while (probably because I was idle) and now I'm all the way back to the beginning of the first quest.... I didn't loose items or xp but I pretty much wasted something like 2 hours of my afternoon! This is fucking stupid! Terrible game design.

If they are really hand me down items, then the auction house should be less useful at end-game.

They're coming from either crafting or monster drops. Crafting sucks because it's a massive gamble compared to using the AH. For example I paid 20k in training and 11k for five items - all were shit. I could've bought a great item for 75k from the AH.
Monster drops don't 'suck' - people just aren't running around with enough MF to get good gear. Although the loot is also randomized very heavily so you get a load of crap items.

F*ck it. After more than 30 times, I keep getting the "servers are busy" error. I just want to play the damn game...

I don't know how anyone can see this except for a miserable joke.

Aw fuck, is there any way to disable drag and drop skill organization?

I accidentally just threw away my 5 stack nephalem valor due to clicking too much on the lower part of the screen and dragging a skill away.
Why are you clicking your skills?

I really hope blizzard changes the itemization in some satisfying way. Farming gold just to spend it on the auction house is not a rewarding end game.

So the guy who beat inferno solo has a nice report on the classes and game in general:

I'm only in nm act 4 so I can't really talk about how good wizards are in hell/inferno, but so far wizard seems pretty godlike. Right now I figure that 100% of people complaining about wizards are just using builds that don't work that well.

just played from 8am to now 2:30pm

didn't think a game this good could even be made

With you 100%. This is the most fun game I have played since...I really can't remember. DOTA 2 & SC2 are both great, but those games can be stressful at times. D3 is just pure fun.

beat normal, want to farm for gold a bit (through gold and loot selling) whats the best/quickest farming area on normal?

Id say act 3, but what area (spoiler it if needed).

So the guy who beat inferno solo has a nice report on the classes and game in general:

this guy is crazy if he thinks the WD sucks. Dude probably should learn the class. I'm destroying in hell right now. Normal damage is between 6-8k on mobs and can crit for as high as 23k.

havent read the whole thread, but are you disappointed with the itemization as well? In a loot game it is by far the most important aspect imo and i think it is the great itemization of d2 that made it so memorable and fun, and also superior to many of its clones.

Especially after playing lots of median xl for d2 im very disapointed with the fun factor of the items and thus a large part of the fun factor of the game.

I think this article pretty much hits the nail on the head.

Ok, i'm about to buy the game. What file did we have to delete if we participated in the beta? I remember reading something about problems coming up if you kept certain files from the beta when downloading the full game.

Error37 all over again in EU servers... so fucking ridiculous.

On the server page it says the servers are up for Europe but it's giving me error 37 servers are busy. :( Its been down since 5 pm and and it's almost 8 pm!

Now before people tell me to calm down and go out, enjoy some fresh air or take a "break", I've been out all day and I come home to this. :|

Yes, this is one of my negatives about this game.
No item's feel special, imo. I hope they do something about it.

He's talking about Inferno . . . and for all the possible skill combinations it's pretty clear that most of the runes are worthless.

Finally got Belial in Hell down. I needed a lot of luck to get through the second phase. Just not enough room to navigate against all the enemies for my tastes.

Inferno is an entirely different ballgame.

It's pretty obvious Inferno was only internally tested a little.

I guess congratulations are in order for the core Blizzard gamers consisting of kids and the unemployed who got to experience this game during the week. After grueling shifts on the emergency ward during the weekdays and fifteen hours of night shift work between saturday and sunday I woke up today imagining that I would finally get to play this game that I paid for several months in advance. What a fool I was to have such an expectation.

How exactly does buying gems in the auction house work? I tried to buyout a gem that I was looking for and it gave me an error, said I put up a bid that I'm not winning, and took my gold.

Man I wanna do a fury crit barb so bad, but my health just drops so fast it's not doable on late nightmare/hell :/.
I really have come to hate the rune system. For all the variety you have the truly viable options are extremely limited. There's really not a lot going on there and I rarely change anything up. For how long this game was in development the way the classes are tuned and balanced is really embarrassing.

Same here (eurolandia), Error #37 Servers are busy..

Oh Blizzard i so mad. I love you.

I found actually unique weapon ! Like really unique !

it's called Griswald Sword or something. At first lokks like normal magic item (blue)
but it has higher damage than normal short sword and it had addition interesting ability.

0.7% chance for knockback.

it was in old tristram in Griswald bar on kind of anvil.

edit :

OH FUCK YOU BLIZZARD !

I tried to make screenshoot in English to show it you guys and i changed language to ENG and it's now downloading 3GB of Data. For me it's like 3hours.. :(

Someone now if this data can be changed back after instalation without again downloading ?
