I've been thinking of starting a film club here on GAF. Each week we pick a classic film and watch/discuss it for the week.

I did something like this about 2 years ago, and it did start off well but fizzled out after about 6 weeks.

Just wondering if anyone would be interested in taking part.

So Godfather, Citizen Kane, Gone With the Wind, Casablanca, stuff like that? I say we start with the true classics.

quick question, I'm guessing that this club will be in the community section of the off topic right? or can i post the threads in the general off topic?

I was thinking "The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford" a great film

this is probably the first barrier we're gonna have to cross :p

i was just thinking that myself.

also I do plan to include foreign films, such as films from France, Germany, Italy, China, Hong Kong, Japan & Korea
I say just pick what suits you I'm sure we'll all agree. I hope to see some great flicks I haven't watched yet!

Sounds fun. There are a lot of wonderful movies that I haven't seen yet. Ideally, we could agree on a service (like Netflix) to all subscribe to in order to ensure easy access for the films that are selected.

I wouldn't mind doing a film club with the Criterion Collection. There are a ton of movies from the collection available to Hulu Plus subscribers.

okay guys, since we are going to watch and discuss a classic film, and some people think that Jesse James is still too recent, I have decided to start with this classic film:

Will have an OT thread for the club up in the next hour or so. Is everyone okay with this film choice?

I'll be in for the films I can stream through Netflix or Hulu Plus; unfortunately, Touch of Evil is not one of those films.
