Diablo III |OT2| Queues Rise. Servers Fall.

5 * 130 Intelligence seems like a massive boost anyway - and from what people are saying about it (i.e. that it's insanely OP at lower levels) is likely already balanced around later content. Just guessing here, haven't started mine yet.

It's pretty meaty. And 5 stacks of Gruesome Feast of adds an additional 50% INT boost on top of it.

Tip to those using DarkD3:

Open the darkD3_Settings.h file, and change the following:

#define USE_PRE_SHARPEN
//#define USE_POST_SHARPEN

to

//#define USE_PRE_SHARPEN
#define USE_POST_SHARPEN

Pre-sharpen looks terrible and adds a lot of sharpening artifacts, especially to the UI. Post sharpen is much better. Post sharpen removes the game's AA blur without introducing a ton of sharpening artifacts.

Thanks I'll try that.

Just hit 59, and I'm liking the game less and less the more I play the game. The difficulty spikes of normal enemies just being fodder who will probably never drop anything ever and the massive leap up to the rarer spawns just makes for very awkward difficulty spikes.

Personally, I like it after Normal and Nightmare's easy mode. Though, I wish some elite packs weren't so brutal.

I had a buddy last night farming
Azmodan
at the end of Act 3. 44k xp per go.

Should be able to do the quest right after it for an extra free 44.8k EXP as well. Adds all of like 20 seconds to the run.

For Barbarians out there, what kind of builds are you using? I'm 41 Barb in Act II Nightmare. For most of the game so far I've been going 1H with shield.

For skills I have a balance of offensive, defensive, and healing skills.

Frenzy / Triumph (Killing an enemy with Frenzy Heals you)
- I've tried all the other skills and nothing kills shit faster than Frenzy from what I can tell. Cleave started out amazing with the explode ability, but now I'm at the point where I really single target death is more important.

Whirlwind / Blood Funnel (Crits while in Whirlwind heal you)
- I only recently started using WW, for a long time I was using Seismic Slam because it was basiaclly the only distance attack barbs get, and that's useful sometimes.

Ignore Pain / Igorance is Bliss (Restore Life while IP is active)
- Helps when I've got 30 mobs ganged up on me.

Revenge / Vengeance is Mine (Restore Life when using Revenge)
- I've had this set the entire game and don't see myself changing. I have about 7k HP and I can walk into a group of ridiculously strong mobs, and they just whale on me and I'll see my health bar dropping like an anvil but I'm getting hit so fast I can literally just spam Revenge and watch my health bar consntatly refill itself. It's amazing.

Battle Rage / Marauder's Rage (Increased +Attack effect)
- I sometimes switch to War Cry when grouping

Call of the Ancients / Duty to the Clan
- Nothing else compares, these guys do a shitton of damage, and also take aggro off me so I can easily burn things down without fear of being hit.

Any advice / criticism of this build?

personally, i'd take rend with the health rune over ww. i think you get more health out of it and it takes less of your fury to get it. also you can toss it on and keep using your primary attack while it does the work for you.

revenge with vengeance is my primary life leach.

and yeah, i agree with the previous comment, you should find a place to put ground stomp. maybe in place of one of your shouts.

Nothing like waking up in the morning and all your gold and half your gear is gone. I am lucky I still have items on my back.

That happened to me, while I was still leveling. Got a support ticket and continued playing. Leveled from Level 40 to mid 50 when I'm suddenly logged out because of "Violation of terms of service" and cannot log in anymore. My heart skipped more than a beat.
I got a mail saying that blizzard reset my password and set my account back to the point I contacted support. As you can imagine I was raging!
Thankfully someone had enough brains to not actually do that just because I was missing 80k gold and all my crafting essences. Worst minutes of my gaming live.

I'm sorry for bringing this up again but I can't keep up with this thread. Any word from Blizzard about the latency issue? I'm limited to playing the game prime time East Coast and weekends and my ping has been between 200-300+ms with some ridiculous spikes from time to time, since launch. I'll be very annoyed if this continues on for weeks and weeks. The game does a decent job of hiding the latency most of the time, though there's a weird sluggishness that's always there, which I assume is due to the high latency. I desperately want to feel how this game plays at a reasonable ping. I've seen several other complaints, is everyone else on East Coast US experiencing this? I live in north central Pennsylvania.

I live in South Central Pennsylvania and my experiences have been the same as yours. It's definitely not just you.

I'm in Western PA and I've yet to see a steady ping under 200ms. :(

As a Witch Doctor I previously questioned the usefulness of Spirit Walk. Now after using it for a couple days, I can't ever see myself not having it. It's invaluable for positioning, getting out of sticky situations and breaking stuns, and setting up a perfect Soul Harvest. With my current build I have no issues with mana, so I've opted for the Jaunt rune - giving me 3 seconds instead of 2. It's awesome.

Well there is a certain amount of comfort knowing that it's nothing on my end. I guess it's just a waiting game at this point. I guess if they aren't going to actively try to improve the situation, it's just a matter of waiting until the server populations naturally decline.

I imagine a lot of Defensive Skills are questionable until you need them. Then they're godlike and never leave your bar :x

I'm getting seriously messed up on Nightmare. What do I do?

My survivability is just awful, but looking at my stats they don't seem all that bad

So...spells use weapon damage % to scale properly at high levels, but WD spells still have some effects like life leech and stat gains which use static numbers based on level? Pretty much means they're going to be useless end game.

Those integer-based runes have pretty much faded into complete irrelevancy now that I've reached Inferno. The healing runes for Haunt and Hex recover a completely negligible amount of HP relative to my max. Not that Haunt was ever particularly good, mind, but Hex with Hedge Magic was a standby of mine for a long time.

The best healing skill I've found is the healing rune for Spirit Walk, which recovers a percentage of your max life with every use and attaches to what is quite possibly the Witch Doctor's single most important skill.

It's pretty meaty. And 5 stacks of Gruesome Feast of adds an additional 50% INT boost on top of it.

Soul Harvest seems to pretty much start out at its maximum effectiveness and slowly lose efficacy over the course of the game. Percentage-wise, once upon a time a full 5-stack of Soul Harvest could more than double my damage output. Nowadays, though, a perfect 5-stack only increases my DPS by about 25%, and now that cracking level 60 is rapidly becoming a distant memory it's certainly not getting any more effective.

I still use it on Inferno, but that's more because I'm thoroughly accustomed to using it at this point and because I can't think of much to replace it with.

I don't think it's unreasonable to call it the Witch Doctor's single most important skill for surviving the higher difficulties. I'd be willing to give up any other skill in my current build before I'd give up Spirit Walk. It's absolutely crucial for dealing with unique enemies.

Biggest thing I'd say is Smokescreen. It's pretty much a staple on survivability. I think I cheesed a lot of NM with some Smokescreen -> Multishot + Suppression fire tactics.

I wish I could get this game to stop stuttering on my laptop... The specs on it aren't fantastic but I'm able to get a fairly solid 50-60 frames with the settings turned down and yet nothing seems to help with the ever so slight stuttering. I don't play many PC games so I'm kind of at a loss on what to do about it.

That minor complaint aside, I'm having a ton of fun with this game.

I see a lot of Inferno monks using shields. I guess they're just sick of dying so often. Really though I can imagine them being beastly. Give them a ton of vitality and armor, combined with two separate stackable buffs for an extra +20% vitality, and a crap ton of defensive, healing, aoe taunts...they are capable of being very good tanks

One thing that removed stuttering for a friend was to disable the framerate limiter options. The foreground/background stuff, try unchecking them. Kind of useless anyway, with vsync.

I dont think you actually lose that much damage from going to shield +1H, from what I read (the dual wield mechanics don't work like WoW or anything like that), so in a mode that favors survival its often a simple choice. Anyone who knows differently feel free to correct me, of course.

Might be a build thing too, the shit that was obliterating mobs on normal doesn't kill anything (not yet anyway) and leaves me in compromising positions

What should be going for in order to keep myself alive and dish out as much damage as possible?

I'm only 5 levels ahead seems I have more INT which beefs resistance a lot. Despite it being the least I have a good amount of all 4 stats with DEX being the majority and highest.

You may have to rethink ur play style.. My RL friend has a Demon Hunter and he hardly ever died while doing Nightmare, and his DPS was actually lower than yours.

Ranged class = have to run like a mofo and stagger big groups... traps, traps traps....

Yeah, I bought this cheap laptop replacement a while back and although I only installed it, I'm afraid it will run the same on there. Luckily I have a desktop to play on normally.

But it'd be nice to have the option if needed.

edit: I will have to try that recommendation probably. Thanks for that.

I feel you bro. I might switch out my Quiver for a shield or something..

I need to send this to my friend so that he can stop moving at a snails pace in game.

Since it isn't percentage-based that isn't too surprising. Eventually the buffs from equipment would be high enough that the extra INT from SH would be less meaningful.

What's your Inferno build look like?

Inferno has seemed silly to me from the outset with the devs saying that they essentially had their guys play through it and then simply doubled the difficulty, or whatever. I'm not sure how that's conducive to any form of balancing.

That and you don't lose as much damage as you'd think by going that route. Typically speaking, you'll have better sheet DPS this way but less Spirit generation to spam on things.

I just did a pretty standard Hungering Arrow/Elemental Arrow (Impale for single target DPS eventually)/Multishot build with Smokescreen and Vault. My DH is basically doing Gold and MF runs so I have a ferret running around too ... though I imagine that doesn't really count.

This. Stay the fuck away from mobs, abuse Smoke Screen and you won't die
too often
.

By the way here are my stats:

I don't think it's supposed to be balanced, just silly hard. I like the concept of it a lot for a game like this, although I'm sure it'll give me some grey hair.

I had great fun Final, sorry I couldn't play for a long time :(

I've always taken that quote as a hype-inducing sound bite more than anything. I'm sure they put more work into it than that.

Anyone have a fast build for 30-40 witch doctor? I've heard all about that Vision Quest thing but what to do before that to be most efficient? I've mostly been dogs(absorb)+gargantuan(elite boost)+bats(dire bats)+soul drain+acid pool and the splinters blowdarts. Sorry for the vague names, I can't remember the real ones.

so gaf apparently before I begin nightmare I have to be level 50..

Well, I'm halfway through 49. Where do you guys recommend I farm? I would like the optimal spot for farming for both for xp and loot :) ty

Are there rings with sockets that give you more than 6-12 dmg? And how the hell can I specify +dmg as an attribute? Only option is all damage and that doesn't return any results.

Does the Demon Hunter Rapid Fire skill lose it's usefulness in higher levels? Right now it chews through everything.

I like using Caltraps and spike traps on larger groups and I'm almost always just spewing rapid fire hot death. I use Cull the Weak, since I slow everyone with the Caltraps. I also use Vengeance to keep up my hatred. I use Smoke Screen with the speed buff so I can either escape a sticky situation or quickly grab health globes to recover hatred.

Obviously, all of this becomes meaningless because I'm still on ACT II of normal and virtually any tactic will work. I'm just curious if this tactic will completely fall apart on higher difficulty levels.

It does on Normal but it is less impressive in Nigthmare. It's still your most powerful attack against single mobs though, so you shouldn't replace it.

Use Sharpshooter for 20% more damage.
