So after getting a Witch Doctor to 53, I decided to make a Monk. I've gotten him to level 9 and I'm liking this character a ton, maybe even more than my WD.

Monks are seriously fucking fun.

Quick question. I'm Wizard and I'm looking at new weapons on the AH for myself.

Should I even both with specialized damage bonuses. Like Arcane or Frost? Do those only added on to said spells or do they add on like normal damage ones? Or spells at all?

While it's a problem that there aren't items that match D2's items amazingness I think it's pretty much right that like-named items shouldn't be anywhere near as powerful in D3. There's no sense in retreading those items being super-powerful, D3 should add its own.

I dunno if the game has been fully datamined yet, but I suppose it's possible that people just haven't even gotten the super-amazing items yet. Maybe, if Blizzard actually expected people to take months to beat Inferno, they thought they'd have time to build up the end-game itemization before it mattered.

I definitely wouldn't mind if it were just the old D2 throwback items that were weak or bland, I agree with that sentiment. Problem is I can't really find any legendary or set items that have interesting properties on the AH at all; this wasn't really an aspect of D2 that only permeated endgame, it defined the itemization classes at all levels. This wasn't initially true for sets (they were straight up bad at first), but the uniques pretty much operated this way from level 1. I mean one of the first unique bows you could find would change your basic attack into explosive arrows. Is there any legendary item in D3 you can find on the AH with some kind of unique property that would separate it from the rare class of items entirely?

Hey guys I'm still early in the game, but I was wondering if we are able to craft rares or are rares just found through drops?

Rares are yellow colored text items right?

Besides magical, set, and rares, is there another item type?

Thank you.

There are legendaries as well, which are orange-ish. You can craft rares and legendaries with high enough skill, though they require plans and materials which drop in higher difficulties.

Fuck it. I'm buying the third tab (for 200k). Can you buy more?

I have a bunch of magical items, should I just sell them to a vendor/break them down through my blacksmith. I haven't visited the AH, but it seems most items are either rares, legendary and set items, and no magical items - I assume I won't get any money from the AH for my magical items.

The auction house is such an interesting mess right now.

Did anyone else watch what I call "Kripparian Shopping Network" last night on twitch.tv? The NoLifers were farming a single gold mob in act 4 inferno by having the witch doctor create a game, find the mob and bring him to the waypoint and knock his health down to about 1%. Then he tells Kripp and everyone else to join the game with all their MF gear on and then collect the rewards after killing the poor thing.

Then, they would show how much they were selling the item for saying that we are pricing with "Walmart" prices and then proceed to sell pretty much whatever they listed within a couple of minutes of the listing becoming official. It helps when you have 4k people watching your auctions. He said that he made about 7 million gold in a little under 16 hrs.

One thing they found was a crafting recipe for 6 affixed rare gloves requiring lvl 60. They rolled about 15 of them at 87k + mats each and some of the stats were just crazy good. Stuff like 18% MF with 180 dex, 30% increased crit dmg, 8% increased crit chance, etc etc.

I am on board with not using the AH unless I get completely stuck at this point. I did use it to assist my barb through some of the more difficult parts of hell but now that I have a lvl 60 farmer that just happens to suck at farming in end game :(, I will try to outfit my other classes with what I can craft and find.

General Wizard question: does basically everyone have Disintegrate, Blizzard and Crystal Shell? It seems that way to me from the games I'm playing online. All those CC spells just seem...basically pointless :/

Blizzard is essential for kiting and Crystal Shell is essential for not dying (as is force armor). As for disintegrate I find it to be the most damaging to both groups and single targets, the downside being you need to stand in place to shoot it which is pretty dangerous.

Just finished my first play through on Normal. My monk at the end.

Didn't think I would enjoy Diablo when I bought it, but its probably the most fun I have had this year.

why are you not using runes on your other 3 skills.. Its like a free better version of the normal skill!! Hopefully you realize this :)

Thank you.

It depends on whether you are going to use the gold AH or not. If you are, don't bother breaking down items until you are in hell or inferno. Either AH them or vendor them.

As for selling magic items on the AH, some combinations are actually pretty strong. Unintuitive as it may sound though, the market for those items is going to be higher at 60. Personally I vendor almost everything magic unless I think my companion can use it.

Man I'm loving this 2h build in Inferno. It's cheesy as hell, but so are the mobs!

... also just killed a rare pack that didn't drop any loot at all. Refreshed my Valor though. Weird.

It's weird, everyone else enjoys the hell out of Monks and I can't stand playing as one. I'm not quite sure why.

To me they are the least fun high level class. The Inferno builds seem to be one spirit generator and 5 defensive/aura/blind abilities. Nothing that requires positioning, unlike the WD which is all positioning.

This is my setup, except I'm in softcore so I substitute Vault with a bat companion because dying isn't really a big deal to me and the DPS improvement is substantial.

Do you use impact stun impale? Fire at will multishot?

Only level 20, but further on specificly Nightmare and up ... is it a bad idea to be using Caltrops still?

my thing with the itemisation is that... well they made the exact same mistake blizzard north did in diablo 2 classic

i dont know how they let it happen

in that game, rares were much better than the uniques, because the uniques were all low quality and itemised poorly. there were a couple of useful items, like the gull and and spectral shard and stuff, but even those were only added in patch 1.09

it completely fucks with your sense of progression i think. once rares start dropping, and they do really early in d3, theres nothing more to look forward to really, other than looking at your random stats. its just... fundamentally psychologically unsatisfying to have the same shitty random rares be the be all and end all of the game.

yes lord of destruction made it into a rat race for the few incredible items, but that only seemed that way after everyone had played the game for years and years and had actually gotten the super items. eventually, every time the ladder reset, you could see how it worked successfully, with almost every new unique drop being worthwhile and useful as you tried to level up quickly and get to the stage where you actually got the best items, which you knew were the best. it just... feels better that way imo

Just beat Nightmare, 51 Monk. Diablo was a cakewalk, the annoying elite combinations were the worst part of Nightmare. Now I think I'm going to beat Normal with a couple other classes before I approach Hell.

I like it the way it is now. If they must change it, just buff legendary items slightly. I would hate D3 to turn into D2 where you MUST have Enigma or you fail.

Never played Diablo, but I have a buddy pass and this game looks like Gauntlet. Is it essentially a higher quality Gauntlet? I'm a fan of Dark Legacy.

Hell mode: Extra Health + Walled + Arcane enchanted + the biggest lag spikes you can imagine = fuck...

Oh, and while your'e doing that: Another extra health, arcane and minioned enemy! good luck

Farming wortham quest in Hell... 60k xp in what 2-3 min ? Crazy. ^^
I farm with 120% gold find and with all the cadavers I found a lot of 600-800 golds !

Bought 10 amulets at the shop for 8k each selling like crazy on the AH at 30-40k. :D

Yeah that's why I am not being too down on the whole Rare vs Legendary itemization in D3 now. The game will be patched numerous times for who knows how long with expansions coming obviously. Compare D3 to vanilla D2 (1.00) and it looks so much better in comparison.

The main thing going for D3 is that the core combat is way more fun and addicting which will pave the way for additional content.

Trying it now out now, ty!

What should I be using to keep enemies at bay though?

As a DH I'm towards end of ActI on Nightmare. Run with Templar.

At the start of any fight I put down a Sentry.

I then Mark of Death the harder target in the group. I use Arrows that snare the oncoming horde and Chakram's. If people actually do make it to me I either kite or I'll just use Archery - the volley of arrows. Shadow Power will heal you up if they hit you and if you see red just hit Q and bail.

Had a really hard laugh tonight as I entered this random dungeon.

Check out the enemy name and the dungeon name at the top right corner.

Also, is there any way for the game to save screen grabs in a decent non-jaggy resolution?

Notice anything about all the other mobs or possibly the yellow at the end ;D?

Thanks man!

Hahahaha.

That is great.

you get an achievement for killing jay wilson in there :3

Yea I hate Monks. I got one to 24 and absolutely hated it. They are very squishy :(

Really? I didn't die once as a monk going through normal. Boss was a cake walk..only time I come close to dying was standing in puddle of poison or lava. It was way easier to play Monk to me than Demon Hunter ...

However now that my Demon Hunter has fear arrow I just shoot those then randomly shoot seeking arrows and collect loots with half of the mobs dying off screen. If I get caught in a pack I just go god mode (smoke screen) then repeat. Feel so cheap. Only thing giving my DH problem are those mortar launching guy, because I have to get close to them.
