I'm guessing he's referring to the fact that Rapid Fire uses your stats at the start of channeling for however long you keep the channel going. So for example if you let Sharpshooter increase your crit chance to 100% then start Rapid Fire, you will have 100% crit rate on all strikes until you release the channel. Certainly an oversight, but a powerful one if you feel like taking advantage of it.

So I finally just completed Normal. Feels good. Now to actually start thinking as I play and maybe care about what gear she has.

Definitely look forward to continuing the WD, but I want to try a couple other classes first.

Whattt, damnit.

ok so my barb. it's really hard to survive solo. DPS is up to 880 or so with my shout enabled. i have 3k+ armor. and i have 8k+ HP. why can't i kill elite mobs in Nightmare? too low of a DPS? i feel like i've got plenty of armor and health for nightmare. maybe i'm using the wrong skills. idk. i'll take a picture and let you be the judge.

A lot can go wrong with the Barb... I'm guessing you're around 30-40.
It will be difficult to adjust to new difficulties, but just remember that you need to start sacrificing damage for survivability.

Yeah, I think it's your skill set, but try getting a higher dps weapon from the AH.
Get better rings/amulet. I think you should be doing over 1k.

Edit after SS:
Anything like this would work, but yeah, use Revenge <- your BFF until FOREVER

Don't have any rare rings?

DPS is kind of low
yeah...i figured. it's hard to find a weapon with the stats i want and high dps that is also affordable lol

Use Revenge.
instead of what? hammer of the ancients? that skillslot is what i've been messing around with. should i pair revenge with vengeance is mine ?

Don't have any rare rings?
nope. one ring does 3-4 dmg and has 8% MF, other is 9% AttkSpd

The sad reality of the Witch Doctor is that Splinters is both the first rune you unlock and is also your best all-around offensive skill. Outside of Vision Quest builds any other primary attack is comparatively rather poor.

Not a fan of the firebombs?

Ditch the shield, and go 2H or Dual wield, try something among those lines :

Ran through everything like butter until the very end of act3 Nightmare with something like that.

Berserk is basically your 'I win' button for every rare/elite mob packs, just be careful of those damn lasers and freezing orbs.

I'd drop bash, but I don't play barb yet. Hammer seems crappy to me too.
Can't you get +15% dmg shout instead?

Yeah don't use bash. Frenzy with lifesteal from your gear will work fine as well. Acts 3-4 in Nightmare, you should be switching to a decent 1hand + shield combo.

hm that is interesting. i can't really figure out why i'd use leap except to get out of trouble. but it generates fury so i could leap into battle and then berserk with extra armor. thanks.

i love bash cuz it stuns enemies almost every hit. just one, but against bosses that's all you need. and in conjuction with stomp, i can stunlock bosses to oblivion.
Just randomly look at AH from time to time. Like I recently got an amazing axe for 8k buyout.
yeah i will start doing that thanks

It's about killing the hard things, not the easy things.

If any of your skills overlap, swap one out for a buff.

It's maybe not the most efficient skill in that spot but it's just too damn fun :p

alright, I just begun hell and I'm getting whooped... I think I need to change my build. Demon Hunter here. What do you guys recommend? I like bola (sp) shots and rapid fire... vault and caltraps...

are we passed that now? :(

I'm getting stomped in by unique mobs

I find hell to be a bit easy so far. Dps around 3.7k at the moment. I don't use any skills you just mentioned. I use hungering arrow with devour and impale with the bleeding damage rune as my two mains. The latter being good for bosses and elites. The key moves are preparation and smoke screen to beat the strong enemies. Use SS whenever needed. Should probably be able to use it 3 times at which point use preparation to re-up discipline and have another round ready. Do this while kiting to buy time. Last ability I use is bat companion for extra hatred. But you can get by without it.

I hate how smokescreen is a requirement for Demon Hunter in Hell, otherwise there are no way in hell you can kill any rare mob with jail or any rare mob that has range attack without dying 20 times.

Gold skeleton archer with jail, freeze, and teleport minion, omg.

I tumble over that shit and never look back.

Well time to visit the auction house again, with all the repair bill I might as well spent them on better farming gears.

I have been playing the witch doctor the past week. Only finished nightmare, but it is beginning to be clear to me that survivability is going to be a problem.

But I must say that amongst all the classes, the WD is probably the most fun to play. This is because it is the most versatile, and there are many things you can play around with. For example, I was getting one shotted by diablo in nightmare, so rather than the usual dire bats and vision quest spamming, I went with a hit and run strategy by using the WD's damage over time spells. I threw out fire bats, and vision quest, went with locust swarm and haunt plus spirit walk for escapes. Basically, I just run in using spirit walk, cast both spells, then ran away to the other side of the map. With these both stacked, plus pierce the veil to increase my damage by 20% at the expense of 30% more mana per cast, I was dealing close to 100% weapon damage per second, without needing to be anywhere near diablo. Never had any mana troubles too, since both DoT spells only need to be recast every dozen or so seconds.

I like the Firebombs with Flash Fire a lot, actually. By targeting the ground with the initial throw you can hit enemies off-screen and around corners with the bounces without exposing yourself directly to danger. You can actually out-range Mortar enemies with that trick.

But they just don't do enough damage. 85% is just over half the single-target damage of Splinters, and if you're using them for indirect fire you're wasting the initial full-power hit so that the first attack is only doing 60%. Useful as I find them I can't justify ever using them instead of Splinters, especially for bosses. I'm using them plenty on Inferno but they're always supplementing Splinters, never replacing them.

I'm seriously considering dropping them for another survival skill, though. I already replaced Soul Harvest with Fetish Ambush and as things keep ramping up I'm probably going to start seeing doubling up on attack skills less and less favorably.

I should also really drop Zombie Dogs, but I've taken them this far already and I'm too stubborn to give up on them now.

Gah, stuck on the final boss in Nightmare on my level 49 Wizard. Looks like I may need to go to the auction house and upgrade my gear.

Lvl 44 wizard and just beat Act 2 NM.

Let me just say I'm enjoying NM a lot, as a Wizard practically every non-normal mob is a challenge for me and is a great fight where I can utilize every ability at my disposal at that moment. I'm not sure how it works for other classes but that's my situation anyway.

Can someone finally explain to me why people want unique items to be the best items in the game?

I don't think people want them to be the best items in the game. Just better than 95% of the rares and better than every blue item.

Uniques wasn't the best in D2 either, there were always the possibility for a rare item to be better but they were much more rare than in D3.

Skill use. You're not skills effectively.

Set Primary (LMB) to Cleave. RMB to Whirlwind.

Use Revenge. You can't survive without it.

Jump into a mob, cast Ground Stomp. Start hacking away with Cleave and watch that fury grow. Unleash whirlwind as soon as the stun effect wears off. Rinse, repeat. Watch mobs get decimated. Profit.

Legendary item count = 2

Found it in cathedral level 1 inferno. Ran by the stupid waller, plagued, nightmarish, extra fast pack and the waller affix actually saved me from having to leave the game.

It's decent. :)

Whoa, holy shit. That item name (Ivory Tower) and the flavor text "Hums with the song of Arch" is a reference to one of my favorite bands. Their legendary (no pun intended) vocalist named John Arch was with the band when they wrote their 20 minute long piece named "The Ivory Gate of Dreams".

Did not see that coming while browsing this thread.

Use Revenge.

Pretty much. And Ignore Pain (with the rune that heals you). I also use Frenzy which heals you as well.

My Barbarian pretty much never dies unless I stand in fire or in a sentry. I'm lv51 with 25k health now, but when I first started Nightmare I also didn't have any problems due to how much self healing the class can do.

I can understand that most (there are some very good ones) legendaries being worse than decent yellow items is bad from a design perspective, but to the player it doesn't really matter whether you get a really lucky rare drop or a legendary. At least it shouldn't matter to a point where people are saying they don't want to keep playing since their good item is yellow rather than brown.

Also there are legendaries that are "unique" (usually in terms of having a property that the item type can't get) and extremely good

Can someone finally explain to me why people want unique items to be the best items in the game?

Considering they are so rare they should be at least decent. Basically it's okay if they aren't but at the same time people charging and buying them for ridiculous amounts of gold in game is dumb.

You still use Zombie Dogs? Man, I got rid of that crap in normal lol. This is what I use most of the time, but I switch it up on bosses. WD Build

Edit: I haven't had a real hard time with this build, but that's in solo.

While the AH is down: if I'm in Act I in nightmare, is it a waste to have magic find gear factored into my Wizard? Should I ignore that stat and just go high dps?

If I want high dps, do I mainly just stack int with reasonable vit and whatever +dmg I can find?

I just recently upgraded about 150dps just by sacrificing some magic findgear and I go through mobs so easily now. I'm still at 67% magic find, but I don't know if I shouldn't even care about it at this point. I feel like I'm really low DPS for a wizard at lvl 37 with only 518.

I wouldn't bother with MF until you are at least in hell and preferably level 60. You are going to be replacing the items you get all the time anyway and it's just going to slower your progress.

I don't particularly want them to be the best in the game, but I want them to be unique. They really aren't at all, certainly not in the way they were in D2. If not for the color change you would be hard pressed to really tell a rare from a legendary in this game.

Finished Act III NM with my Barb (after taking a break after Act I NM to get a monk and wizard through normal and another barb through normal HC).

The game got far more reasonable once I said screw it and just bought a new weapon after Act 2 NM on the AH. Even if I did have to cheese the Act 3 NM boss to win (I have ~13k hp and do 1.7k dps unbuffed; I used frenzy, wrath of the berserker (runed for 100% damage), and call of the ancients (runed for longer duration, iirc)).

Double damage and ancients made his health drop super fast.

Dinged 50 after the second Act IV boss, and called it a night. I'm not looking forward to Hell at all, especially since I wasted so much gold upgrading the artisans as much as I could. I'd've been better off using that gold to actually gear up.

HC was fun, too, but after my NM SC barb, I'm not looking forward to HC NM as much. I may level and farm gold in normal before continuing into NM HC.

I played a fair amount of D2 off and on, and while leveling up (as far as stats and skill points go) was better after they added in the respec, I still think D3's approach to stats is better. Everyone is complaining about no customization, but "customization" in D2 consisted of saving your points, getting your final gear, putting enough in str and dex to wear your armor and max block, and then pumping vit.
