Time for the
prime evil
with my 52 HC tankish DH.

Hey Wizards. What is the point of using Familiar /w sparkflint if you can just use Magic Weaopn /w Force Weapon. I don't know if there are some bugs with the game, but it gives me a much bigger boost than 15%. Even if it would just be 15%, it is still bigger than 12% from Familiar.

It attacks for 20% of your damage, also you can just use them together.

The cynic in me believes this is all part of the Auction House plan. Having fixed legendaries would significantly increase your chances of finding one that was perfect for your character/build through solo grinding or grouping with friends. However, since the stats are all random and the drop rate seems terribly low, the chances of you finding the item is low and the chances of you finding the item with the right stats is insanely low.

But thankfully blizzard thought of this and allows you to get it from the AH, heck you can even use real money!
I think this was their thinking too.....but even then looking at the legendaries available on the AH (which is a ton) other than some with magic find (for my MF gear set) I don't want any of them. You would have to literally double the stats on most of them (even the high level ones) for me to consider switching with what I have.

But at this point (lv58, halfway through hell), I prefer Magic weapon with 15% bonus and 2% knockback, for it can be lifesaving, even if luck-based :D

True, the underwhelming power of the legendaries is something that I simply do not understand the reason for.

I wonder how the economics of the game will work in 6 months-1 year. I mean there will be so much gold and rare and powerful items in existence. You'd think that the massive inflation will push prices higher in the AH but the glut of powerful items and over-supply should push them back down.

Anyone wants to join me, act 2 hell (searching for the blood quest), europe, feel free to add me oddo#1116.
I made up my mind i'm going to finish hell today.

It still wouldn't fix the problem, though. Legendaries need a definition, a reason to exist as a separate tier of items rather than just as a snapshot of what a rare's potential could be. A much more interesting question would be: is it worth using a weaker item to obtain a property that I can't get anywhere else?

Imagine an 800 DPS Windforce versus a 1,000 DPS rare with identical Dexterity but otherwise bad stats. You'd still take the rare right now, because the other properties of Windforce are garbage and carry very little value. Now imagine if the Windforce's guaranteed Knockback property was 100% chance and worked with any form of arrow attack (which is how it worked in D2). A huge amount of control is now offered that you couldn't get from any other item; do you sacrifice the damage for such a strong property?

At the very least, it's a question that not everyone is going to answer in the same way. Right now the question basically answers itself.

Do different characters on the same server always share the chest/money or is there a easy way to keep their stuff apart beside switching servers? My girlfriend would like to play aswell without "messing" up my stuff and money.

Oh, I agree. If they were dead set on making legendaries so random I would have been happy with them rolling like rares do and then have a slot or two pulling affixes from the "cool stuff" pool. Like cannot be frozen etc.

Well yeah it is attacking the mob too. I still preferred Magic Weapon. Now I'm using this build with my lvl 42 Wiz name AlmostBaxter.

Not having any problems on Nightmare so far eagerly waiting for Hell.

Am I the only one who uses leaping spiders like a mad man? 4 spiders that last 4 seconds and each deal around 20% of your damage. Each spider will leap to an enemy and hit usually 3 times before dying. So for a barely noticeably mana cost, you have a spammable homing DOT that hits for upwards of 200% of your damage over 4 seconds spread between multiple targets. With nearly 20% attack speed stats and a 1.55 speed dagger, i can spam 6-7 sets of spiders before the first die, having a swarm of 24-28 spiders out leaping from target to target. With 1000 dps, each spider is dealing nearly 200 damage. That is nearly 4800-5600 dps once the Zerg is out in full. I can throw the spam towards the ends of the screen and the spiders will leap another 24 yards past that to targets off screen.

Just had a mob in Hell with the modifier "Link" - any ideas? Specifically, it was an Extra Health Link Desecrator.
There's a Health Link modifier that connects a large percentage of health between the mob and I feel like it just repurposed the Health in the descriptor there.

It means it and all of the minions that are attached to it share the same giant health pool. With Extra Health it must have been kind of silly.

Yeah, this is the first time I'm not cool with this whole set-up.

I hated it with WoW, I figured it was a necessary evil... but on this?

cant have people duping gear. I dont like it either, but if it lets us have the auction house the trade off is worth it.

tracking down gear and gems for my characters is infinitely easier than DII with the AH.

That build is very, very close to my likings, hehe :D
Chain Lighting imho is still better than Shock Pulse because it ignores the geometry of the fight, but yeah, this works.

I imagine Familiar+Hydra+all defensive skills would be the way to solo a micro-intensive, hard hitting boss on autopilot though.

Is there a link to all (known?) affixes? In NM with a pretty undergeared Barb (or at least I haven't touched the AH and have had mixed luck with crafting), some of the mobs gave me a proper headache last night.

Elite retching vampiric (she was back to full health each time I ran back) with mortar minions took me four attempts last night - but I got the bitch down eventually. Might put Earthquake back in my build for when I really need the damage fast.

And yet another day that I come back home from work at 7pm ready to play Diablo all night long, and yeah.. down 'till about 1am so I can't play the goddamn game during the whole day.

Ugh... I'm starting to hate this. The other day was two hours, but today it's way too many and because they do it in their timezone, I get stuck not being able to play during the only time I can play the game. Great.

It would be really awesome if Blizzard "remade" Diablo 1 (or Diablo 2) with the Diablo 3 engine. We get those kinds of remakes all the time on consoles. D1 and D2 would be the perfect kind of thing for that. They could sell each one for $20.

About Firebombs, now i am only on Act III Normal so i can't contribute to later difficulties but this might go in general so: Wouldn't the AOE effect kind of compensate for the lesser damage compared to Splinter darts? I mean ever since i use Firebombs, if i get a soul harvest in i can then use Acid Rain and firebombs on a pack of mobs and they just melt away so quickly, i can't imagine Darts being better unless for a SINGLE target of course?

The AOE effect is nice, but only when you've got enough enemies to use it against. Against single targets the AOE or the bounces are worthless, and you're left with an 85% power primary attack compared to the total ~180% of Splinters. Since virtually all major bosses are strictly single target and Inferno imposes a time limit on beating them Firebombs just doesn't cut it.

The biggest functional difference between Poison Dart and Firebombs is that Poison Darts can be effectively used to deal with crowds and single targets, whereas Firebombs can only be effectively used against crowds.

I like Firebombs and I've used them quite a bit, but if you're only going to be equipping one primary attack then it's not even really a choice. Poison Darts is where it's at. Poison Darts is solid in all circumstances, whereas Firebombs is very situational. It shines when you have large groups of enemies and when you have an opportunity to attack from extreme ranges, but in all other circumstances including boss fights it loses a lot of its luster.

Holy shit you guys weren't joking. I stayed away from the AH while playing through normal mode and just checked it out.

What's the point of playing a loot game when you can just buy gear that will be better than anything you could possibly get? I saw a crossbow that had +100dex and triple the damage than the one I had for 60k

Is this going to be a recurring scheduled maintenance as with WoW? Disappointing if so, even more so if happens at the same time as WoW.

Same =(

Server is down until midnight here. Night RUINED :(

And if this is an scheduled maintenance that happens every week, then yeah, no Diablo for us on Tuesdays. Blizzard are genius, they were able to put an 8 hour maintenance on a game with singleplayer, and have the maintenance affect said mode.

Genius, I tell you.

Ugh...

Don't know what region he's in, but I just tried logging in on the American server - message is that the server is offline for maintenance from 1 AM PDT through 9 AM PDT (4 AM EST through 12 AM EST).

I am just paranoid the EU servers are going to be down tonight, the only night I have set aside to play!

It's possible for you to get those though.

I mean someone else got them.

So any tips on getting this game to run better? The performance on my laptop is all over the place.
I have a i7 / 5870m / 6gb ram.. so i would think even playing on medium would give me 60 fps but it drops to around 20 fps when playing with 3 others and its on medium/low.

Why is the game so hard to run?!

Keep in mind someone found that item. You could find something alot better after buying that...right?

But it sounds like the chances of you finding dropped loot that you particularly want or need is microscopic in comparison to a simple search of the auction house. Its one player's effort balanced against the sum total of the community at large.

But just so I understand this, the loot is completely random? Can you grind certain areas or creatures for certain properties in items? At least then you could somewhat narrow down your chances.
