And what the heck has happened to netflix???? Haven't been following corporate stuff, but they seem to be adding one good movie after 2 months? Thinking about cancelling the service.

Their previous deals with movie studios are expiring and the studios are asking for a lot more money for the content. Can't really blame Netflix for concentrating more on TV content.

Watched The Way. Call me easy, but it had an effect on me. Thought it was pretty well done on a budget and I liked that. Martin Sheen was great and Emilio delivered.

Just finish watching drive for the first time. Awesome movie, so much style. Really wanted to see this in the movie when it came out but just never made time to go and see it. When or if they decide to make drive 2 i'm definitely going to go see it the movie theatre.

is there list for upcoming movie on canadian netflix?

Checked the whatsnew site but there isn't anything listed. I assume there will be a fairly large update in June due to the number of movies that will expire on June 1st.

Edit: NVM just checked again and there are some things listed for June 1st, nothing I'm interested in though.

All movies have to be funny or exciting, otherwise they are bad. Glad everyone is finally in agreement over this issue.

I'm not saying that. I can appreciate the movie for being an emotional achievement of excellence.
However, personally, I couldn't stand it. No resolution, no character building. It was basically just a man getting shit on by life for an hour and a half.
It doesn't have to have a happy ending, but it doesn't have an ending at all.

Nude nuns with big guns. Glad Netflix is picking up these quality titles to bolster their streaming catalog.

Btw. If you liked Ryan gosling in drive he's also really good in half Nelson.

Just noticed Mousehunt is up. Didn't know the director did the pirate movies and Rango. Always enjoyed the movie and old/new setting.

I searched this topic for Mirikitani, but if you haven't seen it, you should check the 2006 film "The Cats of Mirikitani" on Netflix Stream. A sweet documentary about this lady Linda who strikes up a friendly with some 80-some year old Japanese American artist who is homeless and has quite a difficult past. The movie is very endearing, and worth checking out.

I noticed Sergio Leone in The Bicycle Thief the first time I watched it. Deserves to be #1 on that list just for that. I'm an insane Leone fan though

Just watched the Punisher (with Thomas Jane as Frank Castle) and it was decent. I wanted a film about a guy fucking things up and got exactly that, the fight with the russian big guy was awesome.

3/5 cool stuff.

I watched Brotherhood and 13 Assassins on the weekend. Brotherhood was a fairly solid movie, definitely worth a watch, and 13 Assassins was epic, I really enjoyed it.

I saw Drive yesterday. It was surprisingly dark and violent. The first half of the movie paints Ryan Gosling's character as a stoic calm guy but the second half gets crazy. I
got scared when he killed the dude with the shotgun. From then on out he became a psychopathic killer. The elevator scene was pretty bad ass if a bit overdone.
I suppose it was good; not quite what I expected, but still good. The font title is really misleading in that sense. I really loved the shot decisions that they make in this movie as well as the costume designs and the settings.

I Melt With You is on instant streaming. I saw it awhile back, and I felt really mixed about it. I'm thinking of giving it another shot.

You'll either think it's brilliant and profound or melodramatic and silly. Either way, it's a very bleak movie. Watch it with a clear head and when you're not feeling depressed.

Recently I watched Arrested Development and the three seasons of Breaking Bad and loved them. Hopefully they get S4 of BB up relatively soon after it comes out of video.
Arrested Development was god-tier, but I had seen a couple episodes when they first aired and expected as much. The last couple episodes were kinda weak, when they were aware they were being canceled, but it's hard for every episode out of that many to be spectacular.

No clue what I am going to watch next. I always turn on Netflix with a buddy and we end up watching Anuvahood over and over again. I don't know how many times I have watched it in the past two months but it is a lot. Not enough to understand everything Tyrone says though. Next Hype!

Haha, I agree. Rage Italic makes me think of Vice City always. It's one of my few gripes with Drive, the movie did not fit the title font at all. Too much grit and not enough neon.

netflix feels like hbo for the internet for some reason. premium price and good content. With the additions of the exclusive shows and movies, this can very well be just like it.

although amazon is signing every studio in the world as of late. 80 dollars a year is too fucking steep even with two day shipping.

Wait, what??

06-01 Music of the Heart 1999 3.5
In director Wes Craven's inspiring Oscar-nominated drama -- which is based on a true story -- a violinist and single mother struggles to convince the administration at an East Harlem high school to let her establish a music program.

I remember this movie, never saw it but do not remember this. On IMDB it does list Wes Craven as director on the movies page but does not list the movie under Wes Craven's page.

Just finishing watching Drive as well. A lot of style, to be sure, but that's all it's selling. The story was so cliche and predictable. Under ten minutes of driving and an hour and a half of husbandry. Overall I enjoyed it, but I see this and a lot of other current movies lacking anything "classic" about them. I doubt we'll point to this movie in twenty years and say it highlighted anything about cinema that had not already been done. The story was certainly done a million times already.

Iamazons streaming selection is currently still a lot worse than netflixs. Its a nice bonus if you already subscribe to prime though and might suffice.

As big a fan as I am of martial arts films and Jackie Chan, I've never seen Dragons Forevor or Wheels on Meals.
While looking at streaming choices, I was surprised to see that somehow I had never noticed those two movies being on Netflix. Just finished Dragons and about to start Meals.

I've been enjoying my Prime Instant Videos for the past week more so than Netflix. The only lacking item to note about Amazon is the nearly zero anime titles. Netflix blows Amazon away in that department.

Is there anything substantial on Amazon Prime that isn't on Netflix? I honestly don't know very many people who use it. They need to make it available on iOS and all gaming consoles.

My Problem with PIV is that most of the titles I tried didn't have subtitles, but other than that I do think they have a pretty good selection (and I can see them catching up to Netflix rather soon).

Dragons Forever features my favourite Hong Kong martial arts brawl. The drug factory brawl + Jackie Chan vs Benny Urquidez is near orgasmic.

All the Presidents Men (one of my favorites; it was removed from Netflix a while ago and I wanted to watch it again)
The Prince and Me was actually quite good, in my opinion and I like Julia Stiles usually
I liked the Shooter with Marky Mark
Mission Impossible 3 (best one in my opinion)
Clueless is always fun
Mean Girls is a fun watch also
The Truman Show
Clue
Beverly Hills Cop
Freedom Writers is quite good
Miss Congeniality
Braveheart
Vanilla Sky
Coming to America (I love this movie)
Coneheads
Star Trek: Insurrection
Ninja Turtles 2 is better than the Next Mutation crap

I guess if you like those or are interested in them is up to you.
The Sum of All Fears

Vampire Diaries is surprisingly good. I know a lot of us probably steered clear due to the name alone (ugh) and it being a CW show. Once they stop actually filming scenes of them writing in their diaries (the irony) is when the show began to suck me in (no pun intended). Just finished all of Season 1 over the Memorial Day weekend.

Thanks to whomever recommended it awhile back.
