...Just to be sure you can cross reference your local IMAX's via Wikipedia; if it's noted as 15/70 mm than it's an IMAX if not than its LieMAX.
Hm, that list isn't entirely accurate. I know of several true IMAX theaters that aren't denoted as 15/70 mm.

Is IMAX more expensive than lieMAX typically? The IMAX here charges the same ($16.75).
No, they're usually priced comparably, which is part of the complaint people have.

It does have it but not in the abundance of Alien which was sc-ifi horror film.
Yeah, Aliens is much more about action than terror. Actually the most sphincter-clenching moment of the film for me is when the face hugger gets loose and creeps up over a table by Newt.

I had no clue Hot Toys acquired the license. It's going to be amazing.

The 3D effect with IMAX has a more out of the screen experience while RealD 3D is more contained in the screen with perhaps a better sense of depth (foreground, middle, background).
That's got me curious, why do you figure that Imax is tuned to pop out more?

This is what I found:
Executive Vice President (Technology) of the Imax Corporation, Brian Bonnick, says that Imax Digital 3D movies "can appear in front of the screen" which may be more lifelike. He also credits Imax's "patented theater geometry", "proprietary wide-angle lenses" and brighter images for this effect.

I have to say that the films I have seen in IMAX 3D do appear to jump out of the screen more than RealD 3D. However some believe that while RealD does not pop as much it is better because of the sense of depth (foreground, middle, background) due to everything not popping out at once (you can reach into the screen rather than touch what is in front of you). My greatest 3D experience was Avatar in IMAX 3D.

Ok I see. He does have a point about screen distance.

The only movie I had a chance to compare was Avatar, and that was my first 3D movie so I wasn't very perceptive of the differences.

Saw the trailer yesterday at a 4K theater during MIB3 and it looked amazing.

Will be going back to watch it at that theater.

Aahhhhhh. I think I have to skip my screening this Thursday due to another commitment :/ Going to try and catch at midnight opening if I have to.

Toronto/GTA-Gaf..

All this LieMAX vs IMAX is really confusing. Im gonna be seeing this in IMAX for certain. Can anyone tell me a legit IMAX theater location between Whitby-Missisauga???????

Man I don't usually care about people posting impressions and such before I've seen a movie, but even I might have to sit out of this thread before watching it. I don't want to see a bunch of impressions saying that it sucked or something. It will most assuredly taint my experience. Not checking Rottentomatoes is going to be really hard..

In this case, legit IMAX is a bad thing.

Yeah. Think I'm going to do the same, only seen 1st and 2nd trailer and basically skimmed through this thread.

I'm going to read every one, masturbating over the goodies and dick slapping the screen when bad ones pop up

Be strong, bro. Go the virgin experience. Nothing beats not knowing what to expect. The alternative is looking for the negatives others have pointed out or going in with expectations too high.

True brah. First review comes in I'm out until I see it (which should be opening week. My brother's deaf so I have to wait for a 3D and subtitled one which shouldn't take too long)

I've been closing my eyes and putting my fingers in my ears every time a trailer comes on the TV. I don't want to know about any more shots or dialogue or plot than I already do. I'm already sold, I'm already hyped - I don't want to know what to expect.

Going to watch in 3D too because most of my friends want to see it in that, would have preferred 2D myself though.. Can't wait for next saturday!

Argh can't decide wether my first viewing should be in 3D or 2D. Gaf help me out!!

(P.S. Avatar has been the only movie I've enjoyed in 3D)

I am going to see it in 3D, it is filmed in 3D with 3D in mind. It is the first 3D horror movie I will see, and I think the added immersion from the 3D could emphasise the scary moments. It also looks like visually beautiful movie, set in a different world.

3D. It was filmed in 3D by a competent director. Therefore, 3D.

It's settled then. 3D it is! Gonna be an awesome birthday!!

Got my tickets for the evening of 1 june. Watched Alien last week (for the 8th time or so), and watching Aliens tonight in anticipation.

When are expecting to hear the first critic reviews?

I want to go in as 'fresh' as possible but it feels like it's been 'suspiciously' quiet on that front.

I hope Fox are actually screening it for critics.

They're definitely screening it for critics. First press screenings in Aus are on the 1st June (it releases here 6th). I might be going to a press thing on the 4th. A part of me kind of hopes I don't get it, because seeing it with my friends the first time might be best.

Man, really...Why are the release dates set so far apart? I can't believe our neighbours get to see Prometheus in a few days and we have to wait more than two months. :O

First french reactions are on Twitter and it's very divided. Some say story is great, others that it sucks, that the characters are flat.

Need more developed reactions, kind of obvious that it would divide.

Okay, definitely more positive reactions than negative for now. Funny how some (one or two) are saying that the story and script are badly executed when others say the opposite.

Most tweets find that this is awesome.

I expect the RT scores to be in the 70's. Dunno why but it just doesn't "feel" like it's going to be a supreme hit with critics. I'd love to be wrong.
