I'm used to that ;). My imperial flagship wasn't numbered either, but my trusty old floor was such a good place to build it that I didn't even have to sort it (although it's about a 1000 bricks smaller than the shuttle). The Volkswagen camper van and space shuttle didn't have any numbers either, and I sorted those on colour (something people here seem to discourage / sorting was needed because I built them on a really (really) small desk).

I am looking forward to the shuttle though. I wonder how long such a big set, without numbering, will take me.

First time I built it took me about 9 hours or so. Second time, with sorted pieces, was about 6-7 hours.

Yeah, that seems expensive. Sure, there are 9 minifigures which bumps up the price, especially since one of them is a large Jabba, but still. A local Dutch webshop is selling it for 112 euros.

That was your video? Nice vid, I watched the beginning a while back because I was searching for something Shuttle related on youtube to survive the wait. I stopped after about 30 seconds though, I wanted to discover the building techniques myself.
As soon as I'm done building I'll watch it in full.
 
As someone new to this whole thing. I collected Figuarts which basically relied on preordering them as soon as they went up or you wouldn't get one.

There's no kind of preordering with Lego stuff right? Specifically, that Spider-Man set

I know...but there are some sets with acceptable prices, like the X-Wing, the Tie-Fighter or the new Skiff with it's awesome minifigs. I think it's mainly the very small sets and the big playsets which are terribly overpriced.

I have a vid up of building Town Hall and Fire Brigade at the same time. Maybe some day if I am super crazy I will do those two and Grand Emporium all at the same time.

Imperial Shuttle and Millenium Falcon are actually pretty fairly priced. And the new UCS R2D2 is pretty cheap considering the number of bricks. But the SSD, no matter how amazing it looks, is very overpriced.

Most sets are around for a couple years. You really only have to worry about stuff that's going out of print soon.

Which one? Legohuis? Because I honestly wonder how they can have some of these sets so cheap (x-wing for 51, desert skiff 22,50, tie-fighter 41), no other Dutch webshops even compare.

I will probably watch those, since I won't buy those modulars (way too expensive, knowing my gotta catch 'em all nature).

You won't have a problem with this in general. There have been a few sets only sold in the official store or something like that, maybe the occasional limited print. But the vast majority of Lego sets get reprinted several times before going out of production. So suppose you miss the first shipment of the upcoming Spider-man set, you'll just wait a couple weeks to get in the next wave. And they know Spider-man will be popular, the number of boxes put out will reflect that.

They don't seem to be the only one though. hetdeensesteentje.nl (got some new stuff in today as well), brickstore.nl and sidder.nl are pretty cheap too.
 
Asking this, knowing full well this has a quick answer:

Which modular do I go with first? Fire Brigade, Pet Shop, or Grand Emporium? Trying to buy the one that may go OOP first, naturally, but also looking for a fun build.

Hmm, you're right. I honestly thought I visited those sites once and didn't remember their prices being so low. Maybe I've just got to stop comparing to brickshop ;).

Still, legohuis is in Eindhoven, about 30 minutes from where my parents live, so I'll be getting me a desert skiff this week.

Fire brigade. Next out of print is grand emporium. Pet shop hasn't been out long, and town hall is brand new.

Fire brigade is a winner on both counts, it's oop soon, and an awesome build :D

You guys here have cost me enough money as it is! Honestly, I really want those modulars. They are definitely some of the best sets Lego has to offer, but damn, buying them all will be so expensive.

(Also, too, not to, damn that typo in my previous reply. Very annoying.)

I know, I will hate myself regardles of what I'll do. Either I spend a lot of money, or I kick myself for not buying something that is now even more expensive.

And the longer you hold off on jumping in, the more daunting it is to get all of them. I personally will not be getting all the ones that are OOP, but it will only get worse to get these awesome sets if you keep putting it off.

If the series is not your cup of tea as far as style goes, that makes sense. But to love the style but avoid them because it is too late to get them all doesn't do much. It just makes the eventual entry point that much worse.

You're all just enablers you. But yeah, I'm likely to buy them at one time or another, I'm just really trying to delay that moment (not long enough for fire brigade to disappear).

But since I'm just letting my bank account recover from the Imperial Shuttle (+ x-wing, tie-fighter so it's not too alone and desert skiff for the figs) fire brigade still has to wait. I'm also runnig out of ways to delude myself that this is both an investment and a display piece.
 
I noticed Fire Brigade is only €114 on amazon.es !

Dammit, so tempting!

EDIT: Bought! Even with shipping this is the cheapest I've seen it. Seriously, I need more money.
 
You can still pull off sliding doors with the smaller slide bricks. It just is a bit more convoluted.

I threw this together in about ten minutes to test how it works. You have to use jumper plates to offset the smaller slide rail piece. If I had the large slide rail it would just snap down. This is definitely a technique I need to toy with to get more elegant and put into a building somewhere. Thankfully, Tower Bridge has an abundance of the smaller slide rail pieces.







A roof idea for my soon MOC. Was playing around with all the roof tiles trying to find a cool look. I could do it with one large window with arches, but I am a few blue roof bricks shy.

Ha. I'm not sure whether to be relieved or saddened to say that my interest in the Modulars is honesty very low. Sure, I'm saving some serious cash, bit there's no greater feeling than being enamored with a big set.

The LEGO Minecraft set is absolutely beautiful. The Grass Block box is a wonderful touch, especially because the tape holding it shut is very collector friendly!

I was not too interested in them until all the hype on here. I gave in and am stuck now. They are the type of sets that you have to actually build for it to really click about what makes them great.
 
Minecraft wasn't even on my radar; now I'm probably going to get at least 2. D:

That image of the six boxes put together really shows how creative you can be with it.
 
Does anybody know if there was ever a black woman Lego minifig? I'm wanting to build a team of X-Men to go with my Avengers, but the X-Men are pretty lackluster without Storm.
 
Wow, this Queen Anne's Revenge looks like it's going to be quite the build. My previous two largest sets were the ARC-170 and the V-19 Torrent.
 
Damn want to pull on the trigger on the cusoo minecraft but there is no Canadian option :(

can't wait to see pictures of the completed set.

Here's a cutaway for Palpatine's office, as it was presented in the movies:

They've removed the private office entirely from the scene and had it all take place in the Ceremonial/Public office. They've re-created the Ceremonial office in good detail, though they've had to shrink it down. I love how they have used microfigs to represent the two Sages of Dwartii statues.

I think LEGO has done a pretty admirable job in incorporating all of these play features and scene locations with the piece count they have.
 
Just realized that we're all going to lose access to this thread next week during the annual OT forum shut down for E3. Damn, I've read every page of the thread for nearly a year now.

Oh, I'm sure they'd charm my balls right off were I to build one, but on face-value (cost, space/display issues, general aesthetic), there's a few other sets I'd rather get first.
 
I'm really excited for the modular Western stuff. I like the regular modular buildings, but I prefer to spend my money on something that's got a more historical and/or fantastical bent to it. The modular Western stuff is going to wipe. Me. Out.
 
Anyone have an extra Lego Store set they are willing to part with for a nominal fee? I will not be making it to any of the openings (KC is the closest).

I don't have a problem paying for it, unless it is $150+. :D

Parts on PAB are ~43, but I will need to call for the rare parts.
 
I'm torn.

I really want to get the Minecraft set, but I don't know if it'll ever be available in Canada anywhere (unless I buy it via ebay or something for $70 plus, no doubt).

I also really want to pick up the Sopwith set this Friday.

HOWEVER, I know that the Canadian Lego tax will result in Lego.com selling that Sopwith for $120 or $130. And at that point my eyes start wandering towards the Fire Brigade, which is $200, has a ton of pieces and looks like a hell of a lot of fun to build. And it would basically cost the same as the Sopwith and Minecraft set combined.

I was going to go to the KC opening on Sat, but I have no desire to get up that early and wait in line that long. I'll get there later on. If they still have some sets, I'll grab one for you.

When does it go OOP?

My wife is going back to work next week (our second child is going into day care) and I should *really* get her something nice as a gift. Then I should go buy the Fire Brigade for myself because I am a jerk.
