The LEGO Thread

You have just taken your first step into a larger world.

That reminds me, I had an idea for whatever we wanted to call the OT 2 for this when the time comes.

LEGO |OT2|: Building Dreams. Destroying Personal Finances.

How will we know when the time comes? Do threads have a maximum post count?

No Lego shop in St. Louis, so I went to all the local Target and Walmart stores - no LOTR or Monster Fighters. I finally decided to check Toys R Us to see if they had anything at MSRP. Of course they had ALL the LOTR and Monster Fighter sets, but they were all well over MSRP. Who the hell is buying these sets from TRU that makes them get away with this stuff? It sucks!

I wonder how much this thread has contributed to sales.

Probably quite a bit. I know it has gotten a LOT out of me.

Wait a couple of weeks for BN to get the LOTR stuff in. According to my friend it should all be MSRP, with Weathertop actually being $50, which is the cheapest price.

I totally forgot they sold LEGO...pretty random. Thanks for the advice!

Wish they already had LOTR and MF in stock because I have a mall date planned with the lady on Saturday...

Almost all the stores have some selection, no matter how small. Architecture sets are at all I have seen, and they almost all have some promoted one. Dino has been up at one near me, and a friend there said that they are going to have a LOTR display soon.

But if you have a local store with an actual toy department they have a pretty fair selection of Creator stuff as well as licensed stuff.

Maybe I should bail out of this thread before PhoncipleBone actually convinces me to buy the Fire House modular.

I like this title! Too true.

BGBW: Stay with us. Buy the Fire Brigade, you must.
Even if I have been bad and do not have it yet myself. Heh.

But truly. Pick and choose wisely. Don't want any real financial problems coming out of our fun here.

If you're not interested, you're not interested. If you were thinking to get a modular or two, you should get the fire brigade. But if it's not a theme you're into, focus your attention elsewhere. I couldn't give a crap about LotR or SW prequel/clone wars stuff, and that's fine too.

Ok 35 dollars for this is a bit expensive, here hoping it goes up to 100 when it goes OOP.

Best way to put it. I may come across as overzealous about the modulars, and for that I apologize. But MrKlaw put it best here. If you are interested in dipping into the waters, this post is the best advice.

Looks like Amazon either completely sold out of Lego Minecraft kits or is no longer stocking them. Glad my order was shipped out yesterday.

Wasn't it supposed to be exclusive to Lego.com, Jinx and Lego retail stores?

Lame, was about to order one or two of those. :/

That whole thing seemed really weird with Amazon.
It's not suppose to release until July and then out of nowhere it appears in tiny quantities on Amazon. Weird.

Maybe LEGO was trying to gauge interest in the set? This is the first US Cuusoo set, right?

Kind of a relief for me, all these posts were about to make me break down and order it.

I might still buy it, it's a cute little set and the small pieces will be great for microscale MOCing (if I ever get around to it).

Excavator looks a lot nicer, but you get more bricks with the Mercedes set. I just think the Mercedes one is kinda ugly. I really, really like the look of the excavator though.

Yeah, looks of the Excavator are pretty awesome, but the Pneumatics are kind of neat on the U400. I know they're a bit harder to come by, too. I intend to buy the 4x4 as well, so I'll get some motors with that. But blah, the Excavator looks so cool...-_-

Ok LegoGAF, I'm asking for an opinion.

Or

I know there's not a lot of Technic folks, but for those that may have some interest, which do you suggest?

Those are the two motorized sets I have considered getting in the past. Excavator feels like it has more functionality and general usefulness. The Unimog has more pieces, and it has orange. I like orange...

I would say Excavator is probably the better choice though.

I personally like the Unimog more, but the Excavator will go OOP first since it came out in 2010. You could also decide to wait for TRU's next Buy 1 Get 1 half off sale to get both since I think both sets are MSRP there.

I have the Unimog and it's pretty damn awesome. The sheer size and complexity of it is ridiculous. Though, start priming your fingers now for those cursed pneumatic tubes. The Excavator definitely seems more functional, but I think the Unimog wins hands down in aesthetics; it's one sexy truck. And as has been said, it's orange.

Excavator going OOP first and the many suggestions won me over. U400 will be next, followed by 4x4 :) I was able to get Express Saver with tax for $204 after VIP credit. Gas + wear in car (45-60 minutes with traffic) made it worth my while. SO excited for my new flagship set!

Does anyone else find that when building a large set, you almost compulsively try to face the bricks all in one direction if possible? I mean that the LEGO logo on all the bricks should be facing all in all the same direction as long as a the relevant pieces aren't unidirectional.

Picked up the cheap LOTR sets: Shelob and Gandalf arrives. Of course, not a whole lot to the sets but the minifigures are great.

Shelob actually was a decent build, specifically the 'web' mechanism in the back.

Nope. I dont pay that much attention to the bricks.

I see what you did there. I have kicked off a trend.

This thread is horrible for saving money.

Unless the Sopwith is actually $100 on the Canadian Lego site (ha) I think I'm definitely going to go the modular route. However, I'm going to have to limit myself, and that means I'll probably only ever get one modular set. Or only one for this year anyway.

Still leaning Fire Brigade, but the Grand Emporium also looks neat and is the same price (Pet Shop doesn't really seem very appealing, especially if it's my only one). Would everyone still recommend the Fire Brigade if it's my only one? I skimmed through the instructions for both and they both seem like they'd be fun to build.

Fire Brigade simply because it could go OOP any time now. They're both fantastic but the FB has the edge with it's superior interior design. The Town Hall would actually be the best looking one for stand alone display, but it's pricey and the least in danger of disappearing.

Fair enough.

And I already know (who am I kidding anyway) that I'll want to pick up every goddamn one of them as soon as I'm finished building the Fire Brigade.

The good thing is that once you get Fire Brigade, you have at least until early next year to grab Grand Emporium before it goes OOP. Jumping into the modulars is pain (I can attest to that. I only started this year), but once caught up (I only need Pet Shop now) you only need to buy one a year. So it is actually one of the least painful lines once you are caught up. It is the catching up that hurts so much.

Speaking of modulars, I started playing around with my Tower Bridge pieces (and Apple Tree House) to make my own MOC. Progress so far:

Uploading some more Deadpool pics I took. Gotta add captions before showing. Although, this one works well without a caption:

Just got the Summer Catalogue in the mail today (Canada). I've been waiting for either double VIP points or free shipping to order Helm's Deep and Uruk-Hai Army. As it turns out, for 2 weeks starting on June 1st, if you buy the two together, you get double VIP points. In addition, any purchases over $75 gets you free shipping AND the mini-Sopwith. Going to order this first thing on Friday along with Gandalf Arrives. Can't pass up double VIP points AND free shipping AND free swag!

The Canadian Summer catalogue has the Sopwith Camel listed at $129.99.

UUURGH! NO! DO NOT TELL ME THIS! I AM BROKE!
MUST NOT USE CREDIT CARD!

Haha fuck you Lego.

Fire Brigade it is, then. The Sopwith would be a much cooler display item but man I'm not paying that much for it.

edit - I just noticed the Fire Brigade is only $150US but $200CDN. Man this sucks. It's almost worth the hassle to get a friend to buy it at a US Lego store and then ship it up here.
