There's still no word available on HD video streaming, but Netflix has just released version 2.2 of its app for iPhones and iPads. While the front end got tablet friendly in December and received a Retina Display makeover in March, this version brings a new player UI to all iOS devices. The new scrub bar seems much easier to reach and control now, while the button for subtitles has a received a tweak reminiscent of the new look recently pushed to Netflix's web based player. Also under that button is a new option allowing for alternate language soundtracks (where available), while the changelog goes on to mention "general performance improvements". Not documented but present is the addition of thumbnails in that scrub bar, easier access to "do not share" for Facebook-connected members and the ability to restrict streaming to WiFi-only in the settings. The new version is shown above, check after the break for a grab of the old player to see the difference. As always, the latest update can be found in the app store, we'll let you know if we hear of any extra details or changes on other platforms.

Netflix announced Monday the expansion of its Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) content and coverage in Canada, tapping into a large fan base.

Canadian Netflix subscribers will now have the opportunity to watch a wide variety of recent and classic UFC events, highlights series, and the popular reality television show "The Ultimate Fighter," on the company’s streaming service.

UFC is a universally recognized event, and the world’s premier mixed martial arts (MMA) organization, producing more than 30 live events each year.

UFC is also the largest Pay-Per-View event provider in the world. Its programming is broadcast in over 149 countries and territories to nearly one billion homes worldwide.

"Canada has a long tradition of support for MMA and we've been working with the UFC for some time to bring their world leading premium content to Netflix," said Netflix’s vice president of content acquisition, Jason Ropell.

"We're thrilled to be able to give Canadian members a much deeper offering of UFC content ranging from classic fights, and popular compilations, to recent events, some as recent as 90 days following their PPV airing."

The new content will include a selection of fights and shows featuring some of the sports' biggest names such as Georges St-Pierre, Anderson Silva, Jon Jones and Canadians Mark Hominick, Rory MacDonald and Sam Stout.

The mixed martial arts world is certainly attracting viewers, as Canadian producer and distributor of home entertainment content Digital Shelf Space Corp. (CVE:DSS) reported earlier this month that its GSP RUSHFIT DVD series reached the No. 2 spot on Amazon.com’s exercise and fitness top rated product list.

The company’s home workout GSP RUSHFIT series, which features Mixed Martial Arts welterweight world champion George St- Pierre, has been listed on Amazon.com for less than five months.

The DVD fitness series has exploded in popularity since launching in December 2010, with international distribution taking off.

Netflix said that popular UFC compilation series will also be added to its coverage, including selections from UFC Best Of, Ultimate KO, 100 Greatest Moments, Ultimate Heavyweights, and the documentary Bad Blood.

As the end result of a class-action privacy lawsuit, Netflix has agreed to delete former users' video history and queue data within one year of the customer's cancellation of service.

"Today's filing is part of the process of effectuating the settlement that was announced in February," Netflix spokesman Joris Evers said in a statement.

Filed last year in San Francisco federal court, the lawsuit accused Netflix of violating the 1988 Video Privacy Protection Act (VPPA), which prohibits video rental outlets from sharing customers' rental history without permission. The company has more than 23 million U.S. streaming users, in addition to those who receive by-mail DVDs.

Plaintiffs in the case claimed that the company kept comprehensive digital records of every rental and streaming order from all customers long after they abandoned Netflix.

Dragons Forever features my favourite Hong Kong martial arts brawl. The drug factory brawl + Jackie Chan vs Benny Urquidez is near orgasmic.
I need to get some editing tools because I really want to gif the scene of the factory boss sliding down the stairs during that fight.

Also, UFC is going to have a Ron of stuff on Canadian Netflix? Wish they added it here too. Or I've never noticed any of the compilations or old fights on there.

As big a fan as I am of martial arts films and Jackie Chan, I've never seen Dragons Forevor or Meals on Wheels.
While looking at streaming choices, I was surprised to see that somehow I had never noticed those two movies being on Netflix. Just finished Dragons and about to start Meals.

Does not compute.

On the other hand, I envy you for experiencing them for the first time. Just purely jaw-dropping physicality, creativity, and insane complexity on display. They are simply god-tier from Hong Kong's golden era, and supplements why Jackie, Sammo, and Yuen Biao together are legendary.

I like owning the films I watch and I especially love adding to my MA collection and I have never found these movies in the wild. I'm sure I could get them on Amazon, but I like getting out in the wild and finding gems at really old movie or record stores.

It was my first time seeing Benny the Jet fight and I was thoroughly impressed with his scenes. They lived up to my expectations. I think I enjoyed Dragons Forevor overall compared to Wheels on Meals, but the Jackie/Benny fight in Meals was better.

Jackie personally considers his fight with Benny in Meals On Wheels the best fight he ever did as he says Benny timing and rhythm to Hong Kong style on screen fighting was excellent. It was choreographed with controlled full contact but Sammo said since Benny wasn't quite used to the rhythm control of on screen completely fighting he hit Jackie way harder than needed multiple times, and Jackie ended up returning the favor out of frustration. You can notice the protective padding on Benny. The results in the end speak for themselves, it all translated brilliantly onscreen.

It's my favorite fight of all time, so I'm glad to know somebody important can justify that opinion. :-)

Haha! Using some tips from the gif-creating thread, I have created my first gif.
How it relates to this thread is because while watching Dragons Forever, I saw this part happen in the middle of the Jackie Chan/Benny the Jet fight scene and knew I wanted to have it as a gif.
Here it is:

If you haven't watched Dragons Forever yet, watch it!

Relativity, Netflix Sued Over ‘Atlas Shrugged: Part 1′ License Fees

Maker of Atlas Shrugged: Part 1 Atlas Productions filed suit today in Los Angeles Superior Court against Relativity Media, RML Acquisitions and Netflix over failure to pay license fees and alleging copyright infringement. Atlas accuses the companies of breach of contract and failure to pay $1.5 million in license fees in connection with post-theatrical distribution of Atlas Shrugged: Part 1 including video on demand on Netflix. Atlas Productions says that despite demands for two separate payments of $750,000, no payment has been made. A separate part of the suit accuses Netflix of copyright infringement. Atlas seeks $1.5 million plus interest plus unspecified general damages as well as court costs and any further relief the court deems appropriate for breach of contract plus additional damages on other causes of action including copyright infringement by Netflix.

Whatever amount Netflix agreed to pay to stream this movie is too much.

That's one slick boss. Pure swag.

My friend recommended Lo to me awhile ago, had it in my Q forever. Finally got around to watching it and its very good. Really surprised its not more of a cult hit with people.

Haha, I'm watching Saving Silverman right now. One of my favorite unashamedly dumb comedies.

Saving Silverman was alright. Not dumb but nothing spectacular. Amanda Peet is so gorgeous and the nun isn't bad either.

Check her out in Griffin And Phoenix on Netflix, a superior film.

im going to watch it again just because of that gif :)

I watched Dragons Forever based of that GIF.

The stunts were great and very entertaining and the courtroom scenes were hilarious.

Just got around to watching Ip Man last night. Thanks for the recommendation GAF. Ip was great.

one of the best martial arts film I've ever watched.

btw, amazon instant video is now on ps3 I know this is a netflix thread but what do you think about it? is it a good idea to switch?

Just watched the first three episodes of Beast Wars and it still holds up story-wise. Obviously the animation is dated, but even as a kid when it first premiered I knew it looked kind of poor. The textures stuck out to me more than anything.

They share a lot of the same content, but I'd still say Netflix is better. If I was a Prime subscriber already, I might consider ditching Netflix, but I wouldn't pay the fee just for the free video. It's an awesome deal if you're already a Prime member, but not so much if you're like me and don't really have a need for Prime shipping.

PressPausePlay is a nice indie doc about the digital revolution. Lots of great interviews. Highly recommended, but beware hipster overload.

cancelled my service today.

netflix sucks.

online xfinity with preferred and hbo/showtime/starz subscription is the way to go if you like cable and traditional tv.

the online on demand is excellent compares to netflix sorry ass selection. Can't imagine not having cable and only have netflix to choose from. shitty.

Not a movie and I'm probably way late to the party... but I just started watching the re-imagined Battlestar Galatica series. It's really frakking good and if you like sci-fi or just a good TV series, definitely watch the mini-series to get a feel for it.

That's some good feedback you got there. And aren't those alternatives way more expansive? Sure, you may be getting more content but I'm quite happy with what Netflix offers. They could use some more recent movies though, but it probably costs way too much.

Your comparing an $8 service to something that costs about a hundred or more a month?

:lol

You're comparing a $100/month cable on demand subscription with multiple premium channels to a single $8/month streaming subscription. No shit the selection is going to be more recent on the former. Doesn't seem like you really understand the role of Netflix.

I too think that Netflix sucks (I've only been doing streaming since December....never got in on it during the glory days), but I can't bring myself to cancel it with the huge amount of stuff in my queue that I want to watch. So I guess maybe I don't think it sucks, I don't know. I am disappointed with the streaming selection though but it's whatever.
I just saw on a site how to get 2 free months of the Blockbuster online '3-disc out program,' so I am good now. I've got Netflix for 8 bux for streaming and 3 discs out for free of new stuff. And when the two months are up, I can use a different card to get another 2 free months (provided they don't fix it).
I've got Acts of Valor, disc one of Breaking Bad S4, and the 360 version of 007 Bloodstone coming soon.
