Reviews seem to be all over the place.
Well, scratch this movie off the list of seeing in theatres.
Will wait for TV premiere.

The ability to fit in strong characters in a movie shouldn't depend on the time lenght. Just watch Alien - that breakfast scene is better than just about any character scenes in any action movie in the last 2 decades.

And yet one of the main complaints against Alien at the time of release was how two dimensional the characters were and how their deaths meant nothing.

Yeah. I re-watched Alien back in February and the only characters that I felt were fleshed out were Ripley and Ash. What other characters had time to be fleshed out? The interactions between them were great, sure, but there wasn't a lot of depth to many of them.

Alien's better than anything Scorsese's done save King Of Comedy though.
and I thought we had it bad for having to wait until August 8th! (Venezuela)BTW, to OP is wrong.
In my country, shItaly, the movie comes out Oct 18th.![]()
Parker was an ASSHOLE

A bs complaint people throw out when they can't find anything real to criticize about a movie.I see the word 'character development' thrown around a lot in this thread from the impressions. I'm not well versed in film talk, so, what is it? Some examples will help too.

Eeeign said:Worse still, the film is clumsy and heavy-handed when dealing with the7/10twin-themes of faith and religion, the screenplay threatening to collapse under the weights it its own lofty theological ambitions in the final act.
all right, the critics are ambivalent/positive about the newest Ridley Scott sci-fi film! sounds like it could be one of the greatest films of all time!
The characters in Alien and their interactions feel very authentic to me, more so than characters in most films. The portrayals are generally low-key, but that's because they're a pack of truck drivers (in space). I suppose there's a difference between depth and real, believable characters, but given the nature of the story, I think they go above and beyond.
Why are people actually surprised that a movie whose director who hasn't directed a single memorable scene (let alone a movie) in almost three decades (yes, three DECADES) is getting bad reviews?
People, this is not gonna be as good as Alien. I'd be surprised if it was as good as Black Hawk Down. Which wasn't exactly great.

I think the people who say this intentionally ignore movies like Kingdom of Heaven. Why do you do that?
It's getting good reviews. Unless I'm looking at wrong Rottentomatoes, 85% is more than good. Why are people actually surprised that a movie whose director who hasn't directed a single memorable scene (let alone a movie) in almost three decades (yes, three DECADES) is getting bad reviews?
Well, it's metacritic and I have no idea how they valuate movie reviews. Avengers has 69% there, and that's heralded as 2nd coming of Bejeezus in terms of quality everywhere, and has 93% on rotten. It's currently at 63 on metacritic.
Yep, KoHI think the people who say this intentionally ignore movies like Kingdom of Heaven. Why do you do that?
Yep, KoHC, but even moreso: Gladiator. I know GAF thinks it's one of the worst movies of all time, but in real life, it's actually a fantastic movie with tons of memorable scenes.

Metacritic actually read the reviews and they give a note. Rotten only says if a review is positive or negative. There's a big difference between Alien and a competently made movie that's going to garner "positive" reviews. It's getting good reviews. Unless I'm looking at wrong Rottentomatoes, 85% is more than good.

they felt like colleagues and felt real.I don't see that complaint being all that wrong, to be honest.
The Avengers is good popcorn fun...jeeez. Like I said, on GAF Gladiator is severely underrated, probably because it won Best Picture. KoHGladiator is good popcorn fun, but KoH DC is much better.
I don't know what to say, as I didn't see it yet, except that I don't know anyone in real life who saw the avengers and disliked it, and you're probably the first person on GAF who I read something like that from. Even all the verified Wheedon haters seemed impressed, which made me think that whatever Metacritic does must be broken.Avengers is definitely a 69. God that movie was overblown.
And yeah, Gladiator is fucking shit.
