Hulk always say: Save a horse, ride a Gollum!

I think the only Harry Potter set I want is the Knight Bus, but I'm afraid of how the build is.

Done with most of the first floor of the Fire Brigade. It took me about 2 hours just to put together the Fire Engine. I dumped all of the pieces into a container that made it harder to look for.

Dr. Forrester would be proud of the dumping.

And I envy you going into the second floor blind. You are going in blind right? Fire Brigade 2nd floor>all other builds this year.

Finished the Sopwith Camel. Very nice build, looks amazing finished. Only downside is the moving parts. The moving elevator is very, very limited in it's movements, but on the upside, the ailerons work great.

And special note, the bags are NOT numbered!

Blind? I'm not sure. I just dumped all of the bags that said "1" on them together.

By "blind" I mean you did not look forward in the instructions at all. Really, the less you know about the second floor the better. Just empty the bags and stare in confusion at some of the pieces and wonder "WTF would that be for in a fire house?"
Many here have commented about the brick texture on the front. The pics give that away, but how you pull it off is a serious "DUH!" moment that is awesome. But the interior details to the floor are what elevate it to godhood for me. Just dont look forward in the book.

My local Lego store had the old style horses on the Pick-a-Brick wall so I filled a cup full of them.

Damn. Wish I had a store here to stock up like that. All my old horses are gone. My niece pillaged them years ago when I left my bins at my mother's. Want all my horses back now. It is painful because I have many of the saddles but no horses.

I spent some time on my custom minifigs tonight, I'm not happy with most of them but I'll see what you guys think...

First up is the Peter Venkman, the issue with him is...
I printed his face too large compared to a normal minifig, so he looks weird and by making it bigger it lessens the look of his large forehead\ receding hairline. I am going to take the decal off and print it again smaller.

My order from Brickforge (custom lego accessory site) arrived though with my PKE meter, some little walkie talkies (seen above). Here's a shot of Egon holding the PKE meter to show you the detail.

Next up was the joker... A few issues with him...
first issue is the white showing along top of his torso\neckline :(. On top of that the striped trouser pattern I tried just didn't work, I printed on white decal paper and the colour just didn't match the lego colour, I'm gonna take another shot using clear decal paper and just printing the stripes.

Finally is probably the best one so far, and I didn't do any of the decal designs for this one...Bane!

bane.jpg

No real issues with him that I can immediately see but there's a few things I wanted to try, first up is I ordered one of these tactical vests in Dark Tan from minifig cat (another custom lego accessory site) When it arrives I'll do a comparison to get people's opinions of which is better, the vest of the decal as seen above.

I also am thinking about (but not sure yet) modelling bane's headpiece\mask in Maya and using a 3D print site like shapeways to get it printed out and use it on a light flesh coloured head with a custom eyes\face decal of my own design, what do you guys think?

Lastly a little something for those who read my entire post :P

I would say a moulded headpiece would be ott it looks perfect as is, and very Lego like!
Brilliant job :)

That is a kinda mesmerising picture...

VW camper is the same price as the camel in the uk.

Lego exchange rates are confusing. Minecraft £35/$35, sopwith camel £80/$100, VW camper £80/$120

Says the man who hasn't built the VW camper yet ;)

I think they are quite close in enjoyment - personally the VW is my build highlight of the year

Just finished R2D2. Very enjoyable build - up there with the VW camper - so many little details all over the place.

I still think they could have sacrificed the two-legged pose and gone for a fixed three-legged one which would have been more stable and perhaps let them add wheels. As it is, I can see why they left wheels off, he's a little too wobbly to push around.

Okay. So second floor of the FB is nuts. I thought the fridge was neat, but when I started putting pieces upside down to create the stonework above the windows - that's where I had to give the designer some serious props.

If anyone is on the fence about buying the FB, I'm with others here - "Get on that now!" (obligatory TWSS)

Guess who just bought the 10220 Camper Van?!

I'll give you a hint: their name starts with "m" and rhymes with "brickcenary" (clever, no?)

It wasn't even on my radar, but I was browsing shopforme.com.au at 11.30pm - as you do - and there it was, listed for 127AUD due to some box dents, it would seem; completely brand new, otherwise. With that piece count and its 170AUD RRP, I simply couldn't pass it up. It would have definitely been gone come morning, too.

So, Gaf, how hyped should I be right now? Rad build?

So as someone who is new to the VIP program, how often do these double point deals happen? I'm considering waiting for double points before I pick up my first modular. Should I wait? Is one due soon?

Not often at all. Don't ever wait for a purchase unless you KNOW it's coming (via internet rumors and such, haha). It happens once MAYBE twice a year?

After all the hype, I am sure the VW Van will blow me away. It will just have to wait. :)

Always love reading impressions. And yeah, the inside touches are great, but how you pull off the outside look just opens your mind to so many cool ideas.

Are the prices shown online at Lego.com the same as whats in their stores? They've got the Medieval Market online for $99 but I could have sworn it was around $120 in store when I went last time.

They discount differently. But that's a sign that they are trying to "liquidate" and move stock. The set will go on sale at the b&m location eventually!

Here's yesterday's builds. Really liked Big Ben and LOVED the Sopwith, such a great build and model, I think I sold some people on it yesterday! Also the mini Sopwith is adorable!

Yes. Yes it is.

I must admit a conflicted mind!

Fire Brigade
R2-D2
Helm's Deep + Mines of Moria
Orc Forge + Uruk-hai Army + Gandalf Arrives

Feel a strong desire to have them all, right now. But probably should only go one big chunk a month. Obviously there is the time constraint on FB, so that should be first. But I really want to complete my LotR gathering first...

Sopwith is probably my favorite build since the Space Shuttle. Came together great, even if the moving pieces aren't as movable as I would have liked.

Damnit. I think I'm missing one brick in the Fire Brigade's second floor. I'm about to scour the bricks in the set, then the box, and then my spare bricks to see if I can find another one.

I'm in the building stages of the sopwith camel. So far it's a great build and I suggest anybody that's indecisive to go ahead and get it. Fantastic build.

My local Lego store had Helm's Deep on display and it was REALLY underwhelming. I'm thinking the only LotR sets I'll be getting from this first wave are Gandalf Arrives and the Shelob set.

Anyways, I picked up the Medieval Market set. $99 for 1600 pieces and it looks good too!

Hmmm...leaning back towards Sopwith instead of Mini Modulars now. Grr.
I will get the VW Van soon, but not this time. And how long before Shuttle Expedition goes away too?

I asked before, but never got an answer: how quick do VIP exclusives like mini modulars disappear?

I haven't been a VIP too long, the Mini Modulars came out just a couple months after I started my membership. But I had gotten the impression that it was one of the first exclusives of it's kind. Hopefully someone else knows more.

The mini Modulars are still for sale at my Lego store. I'm pretty sure they stick around for at least a year. :)

E: And remember, VIP Exclusive is pretty lol worthy. It means, "You want this set? Just sign up for this FREE rewards card and we'll sell it to you."

Don't know, but I do know this: Mini Modulars are in the summer catalog. Fire Brigade is not.

Cool. Thank you so much, LegoGAF.

Aaaand after securing our airline tickets today, I realize that I do NOT have the money to order those sets I have been talking about. Delayed again, but it will allow me to maybe splurge for a larger set next time.
