Prometheus has grossed £2.2m in the UK since it opened on Friday morning.

Deadline reports that the sci-fi epic earned 319% as much as its closest rival Snow White and the Huntsman.

Oh please let this pave the way for more R (15) rated summer blockbusters.

Just saw it. Wasn't disappointed. Classic Alien. Visually gorgeous, interesting plot with a lot a mysteries, excellent tension and atmosphere. I didn't understand everything though. I need to lurk in the spoiler thread. There was just one or two scenes a bit stupid but otherwise I don't have any complaints.

Considering that I haven't seen any films in the series yet, should I hold off and watch them before going to see Prometheus, or does it not matter too much?

Yeah hold off on watching them so you're not constantly thinking about what may or may not come up in Prometheus

Had to post it in this thread also...

I don't think it matters. I smiled at some scenes because of how much they resembled the first one though. I'd say it would be even better to see Prometheus first.

It stands on his own perfectly fine, however having seen alien and aliens definitly brings a extra dimension to it.

Saw it on Friday and it was awesome. I'd only seen 1 trailer beforehand which seems to be the best way to experience it, as I gather most of the plot had already been revealed?
The visuals & 3d were fantastic, some incredible scenes in there as you'd expect from Scott.
Hoping for a DC as I didn't think it was long enough for the amount of content they tried to get in.

Saw it yesterday. I thought it was awesome. Absolutely stunning to watch, and incredibly tense. They got a bit sloppy with the plot at the end, but hopefully a director's cut can patch those problems up.

It was far from perfect, but it was a fun, strange time.

Great visuals, designs and acting. Mostly good fleshing out of the Alien universe (apart from one or two weak parts). A few too many characters and too fas paced, leaving little time for atmosphere building in the first act.

Overall, a great blockbuster, though it doesn't touch Alien as a film, or Aliens.

Saw it a second time tonight with friends.. good stuff!

But the film could really benefit from about 30 minutes of added scenes, especially near the end.

I feared this would be the case when Scott said the video release would include a fair amount of additional footage.

Looks like Prometheus opened to $35m overseas this weekend.

Opening in 15 markets overseas a week ahead of its June 8 domestic debut, Ridley Scott's 3D sci-fi spectacle Prometheus grossed a stellar $35 million for 20th Century Fox.

Prometheus -- also starring Theron, as well as Noomi Rapace and Michael Fassbender -- handily beat Snow White in the U.K. ($10 million versus $5 million), the only market where the two movies went up against each other. The top territory for Prometheus was Russia with $11.1 million.

Prometheus is performing especially well for an R-rated pic (in the U.K., it has the equivalent of a 15 rating).

Damn good start.

Just saw it.

Pretty awesome movie. Liked almost everything, the visuals, the actors, the direction, even the plot was ok. It's not scary though (at least for me).

I still miss the gritty, dirty and real look of Alien(s) and Blade Runner. This has more of an AAA-Hollywood-movie look. Still gorgeous.

But certainly not better than Alien(s). At least not at the moment.

Jesus Christ that was good, I understand that I'm mostly riding off the hype of just seeing it but I enjoyed it completely throughout. I had a huge smile on my face when the title came up. Flaws are all perfectly valid, a lot of the characters are pointless.

There was a part my mum almost fainted at, but she's like that around those kind of situations.

Did anyone in the UK get the 10 minute Spider Man trailer? What the hell was that!?

If it was
when she did the abortion... let me just say I went with a girl that is giving birth in a matter of weeks... I laughed inside all the time.

Spiderman looked bloody awful.

Don't know how long it went on for but it seemed ages.

No, comes out next Friday in the US; I'll probably see it on Sunday.

Ah yeah, knew it came out then but obviously didn't know where you came from.

I'm really interested to know the American reaction, both box-office and GAFwise. Hopefully early word of mouth hasn't hurt its takings.
