Does PS Vita exist / Lack of Vita games at E3

Plenty? The biggest title they have for it is Hatsune Miku, which is a reasonably (if not massively) popular series in Japan, to be sure... but the announcement of a late PS3 port doesn't exactly suggest confidence in the platform.

Phantasy Star Online 2
Super Monkey Ball
Jet Set Radio HD
Virtua Tennis 4
Hatsune Miku
Sonic Allstars Racing

There's been a few and some more coming. Nothing system selling though.

3DS has some good games, but not this many folks.

Seriously? Anyway, the 3DS is not the platform that's shrinking hard. Perhaps Sony should had you on stage to tell us how many awesome games the Vita has/will have. Why they didn't do that?

Most of us expected at least a vote of confidence for the troubled platform, we got less than that.

Go see if you can look up how many games not made by Nintendo over the past decade or so have sold even 1 million copies in Japan.

I'll assure you, the list is very short.

Also Monster Hunter 3G is a port of an already existing game. If you want to see if franchise fatigue is in effect, wait for MH4 to come out.

That's now what I meant. I was referring to the smaller 3DS install base compared to the PSP, where most of the brand has been established. Also, all previous Monster Hunter games have sold over a million, which was my comparison. What I meant to say is if we were to link the 3DS's awesome sales to solely Monster Hunter we should expect 3+ million in sales like the PSP titles (which gave respectable sales for the PSP during its release as well: 80,000+ units per week).

I would take SMTIV over every single game on that list.

I don't know man. Persona 4 is already a classic. I love it to death and couldn't pass up the Golden. Even for IV, which hasn't even been released yet. I don't like banking on anything I haven't at least seen a good demo or revealing trailer.

On May 2nd my gf bought be a Vita for our anniversary. We returned it due to the predicted price drop and that it has no games. Fuck did I dodge a bullet. Almost PSPed me again Sony haha.

Sony launched new handheld 4 months go and they spent like 5 minutes talking about it at E3.

The message couldn't be any more loud and clear: We're cutting our losses and moving on.

Seriously, it couldn't be more obvious. At this point I don't think Sony has the financial muscle for a significant price cut to make Vita a mild success.

What a disaster.

Madden bundle:

This is everything at the Playstation site for Vita:

All these are playable on the floor? Not having a montage really is stupid if thats true. There are a ton of games for the rest of the year they could have shown off. Hell with release dates too for a lot of them.

I really don't get what they were even trying to message with the Vita tonight. Their handheld/mobile strategy is somehow even more convoluted after E3 than it was before. Total failure on that front tonight.

Well, I wasn't trying to directly tie the 3DS's sales solely to Monster Hunter (it was MH + dual marios that did the trick as a whole), I'm speaking solely on how a Monster Hunter game, even an enhanced port, would have performed on the Vita and drive its adoption rate in the only country where developers would remotely give a shit about it.

He's probably talking about the users who I recognize from the Vita threads since the Japanese launch and purchased FEB bundles like myself.
I don't know about that. I've been playing Vita almost daily since the launch, haven't had any trouble finding games.

So you honestly think the Vita will be discontinued in the near future and Sony is just letting it die?

Sorry, I prefer something new over a port. The art design and that logo were enough to sell me.

They would not slap the IV numeral on any old game. This is going to be big.

So you honestly think the Vita will be discontinued in the near future and Sony is just letting it die?

I think that perception is ridiculous, because they can't afford to cut and run, but Sony isn't doing anything to make that line of reasoning seem implausible and did nothing either tonight on a night where you have more ears and eyeballs from gamers than any other.

Am surprised everyone seems to want P4 golden.

If you haven't played P4 by now (or watched the giantbomb ER)... why are you on a video game forum? D:

Well, can't speak for everyone but I would imagine a big reason was P4 was released for PS2 after PS3 came out and wasn't released in the U.S. for a year or two later, by then a majority of gamers had moved onto next gen and the PS3's on the market at that time had BC removed. Just my guess.

Ben Judd alluded to this on the 8-4 Play podcast. In short, he said Sony wasn't going to blow it out with the Vita, because they knows 3rd parties are super pessimistic about turning a profit on it. Instead, they would try to build moment in other ways.

If that's Sony's thinking then that's some bullshit. You take every chance to build momentum; you don't wait into some unspecified time in the future. What about current owners such as myself? The doom and gloom; the lack of clear, future releases; the low sales. It's all detrimental to platform loyalty and confidence in the platform. Why should owners stick with this thing if Sony doesn't show they will? Can you really blame people for selling their Vitas after tonight? I certainly can't, given the non-existence of Vita support from it's own creators.

James Mielke just tweeted that there are supposedly 30 Vita games on the show floor.

what the hell Sony.

I'm sure there's a much better Vita presence on the show floor than what tonight's conference would have alluded to. Even the opening pre-conference show (on the PS3 stream) showed a few games like Sound Shapes and Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time. I also spotted a display with Sine Mora on the post-conference show.

Yeah, but if you're going to do that, why do it during your keynote? Just do it over E3 generally.

Did what Sony showed for PS3 represent the sum and total of the titles coming for that platform? No, of course it didn't. Not to mention that with the Vita only being on sale for 4 months the initial raft of launch titles shouldn't be being thrown under the bus this soon.

I'm in agreement with you. I believe there's a fair amount of overreaction in this thread.

On the other hand, though, if they could have squeezed a few other Vita games into the conference (including at least one or two Vita exclusives), then it could have preemptively quashed a lot of the negative sentiment we've seen here.

So you honestly think the Vita will be discontinued in the near future and Sony is just letting it die?

At best it lasts 2 years from today. And the next 2 years aren't going to be great.

The thing isn't selling and is Sony doing nothing. Seriously, it's so obvious. I can't believe more people don't see it.

I was shocked really, one game and one logo, nothing else from third party publishers for Vita,I was waiting for at least some Android/iOS ports from no name publishers but there was nothing.

Sony itself seems like it can't support Vita, maybe it's related to Sony's financial situation,it's really sad, but yeah not my problem and I am not buying a system with no future.

well, i do too. but its just principle for me not to get excited about something until i at least see some videos. or in the case of SMT, hear about the story/characters. a port of a classic with a bunch of new added material is more exciting than a name SMT IV (granted, there hasn't been a new installment in the main series since Nocturne. but one could argue in the case of strange journey), for me personally

Gotta say, on some level I'm already thinking of just cutting my losses and selling the vita. If someone can convince me of a good reason not to though... sony wasn't able to do that.

I've never played a single ass creed game I have no intention of starting now, so far almost every single game for the platform, much like the regular psp before it, is something I can just play on my pc or tv/ps3.

I got the thing mostly for lumines and I figured it would be a nicer way of playing psp games for the few good ones out there but here we are 4 months since launch and there's nothing on it. You can make as many lists as you'd like but take off anything that I can play on my tv and then also remove any game with less then an 85% meta score on top of that . What's left ?

I was expecting to be shown some great new exclusive psp vita only content and instead there is NOTHING.

I can believe it. We're on a forum where people still refuse to admit the casual crowd would rather just play Angry Birds than carry around another device.

I don't know about that. I've been playing Vita almost daily since the launch, haven't had any trouble finding games.

Awesome, so glad it has a rich, diverse and deep library of fresh new games that everyone loves every game.

If thats the case then why is the Vita sales in the gutter if games aren't a problem? Would you honestly say a price cut is all it needs? It's a great device but there are devices more popular and cheaper out there that do the same thing far cheaper (ipod, iphone, 3DS) meaning the Vita has to set itself apart giving people a clear reason to get it. That is games.

Perhaps we should wait until E3 is over? (Or atleast Day 2?)

naw...let the vita hate floweth!

Sony kicked off their own conference by talking about what an epic, massive thing the presentation is as it's truly their time to shine. They had what amounted to a red-carpet pre-show and a post-show wrapup. They had a ton of people's eyes on them, all at once.

And they shit the bed with the Vita. Their PS3 showing wasn't particularly great--lots of multiplat, a new Quantic Dream title, and Last of Us. Not bad, not spectacular, but set up in a way that did get people interested in the PS3.

They made no effort with the Vita. It was an afterthought, an aside, something to sort of absently mention between PS3 titles and a book. The eyes on Sony during E3 are their core Vita audience, not so much their core book audience. They are unlikely to have another time during the show to get everyone talking about the Vita and hyped. They had their window, they opted to let it shut.

This isn't a Vita hate thread, this is a Sony's neglect of the Vita hate thread.

I love watching the goal posts move.

Wait until E3!

No, wait until the end of E3!

No, wait until TGS!

No, wait until the Sun supernovas, consuming the Earth!

So you honestly think the Vita will be discontinued in the near future and Sony is just letting it die?

I'm a big Vita fan and even I can't blame people for thinking this way. Not only did Sony gave them no reason not to, but the actually gave them a reason to think this way. Sony gave more time and emphasize on some Move AR game than their just released handheld. Think about that for a second.

Because if you look up a list of games scheduled to hit vita this year, you seriously wouldn't buy into the doom and gloom.

Sony has another Vita gamer heaven this month. It's not much given their track record with these things, but wait for that before you completely bail.

I was a bit surprised when Jack talked about E3 as the Super Bowl of gaming suggesting how it affects a company for years and then barely announced shit.

After the PSP software sales I'm not sure why anyone is surprised by 3rd not wanting to make Vita games, sony knows it and 3rd parties know it. At this point I just want the damn thing to get hacked so I can move my PSP ISO to it and trade in my PSP because that's pretty much the only purpose I think the Vita is going to serve at anyone. Its sad to say it as I think the hardware is great but damn.

Not only that, with an opportunity to show Vita games we even already knew about, they decided to focus on a BOOK SIMULATOR for 30 mins???? At E3, with the enthusiast gaming press watching on in disbelief.

There were not enough smh gifs in the world for that.

Even if they started just porting over classic PS2 titles to the Vita, I'd be happy. I just bought a 32gb card for this thing... I thought for sure there was going to be more than this.

Where's my kojima product? He likes Sony things, right?

What about all the perks for having PS+ on Vita? I just bought two years of that service last night (meant to buy one) in the hopes that something huge would be announced for PS+ owners. What a bust.

Something tells me I won't be feeling this disappointed after the Nintendo conference. Step it up, Sony. You were almost as disappointing as Microsoft.

Seriously. I'm going to say it again:

Sony launched a new platform 4 months ago and they spent like 5 minutes hyping it in an hour and a half conference at the most important gaming expo of the year.

Also, the platform is selling like shit and most analysts think it's a poorly market positioned handheld.

It cannot be more obvious.

It doesn't even simulate a book.

The whole thing is crazy.

I highly doubt it.

If someone is so quick to claim Vita's imminent demise based on a single E3 keynote when the platform has been on sale for a mere 4 months... Seems to me their minds have been made up already. Foolishness. Plain and simple.

I think people just get way too bent out of shape over an E3 conference. Sony didn't invest all of that money into the Vita, and spend time getting third party publishers on board just to cancel the system after 4 months. That isn't really how the industry works. The notion that Sony has already completely given up is a crazy one.

I'm a little excited that Youtube is coming on vita.... lol

it'll be nicer than my 4" screen on my phone....

I'm glad Soundshapes is only $15.

The prices they want for old PSP games is ridiculous on PSN.

I honestly don't think CoD will be a system seller.....neither will Gravity Rush.

CoD may have a little more effect than Gravity Rush. Gravity Rush......the novelty wears off in like 10 minutes. I'd rather play prince of persia.
