Nintendo E3 2012 Conference Thread

Yep, it takes almost nothing for Nintendo to appease Nintendo fans. It's like Activision not being able to make the core COD collective happy. Show some pew-pew-pew with cool explosions and they can go home. It doesn't have to look good, or competitive, or interesting, the fans are that easy to please.

All Nintendo had to do was show a 3d mario or a 3d zelda or smash bros with graphics that were more or less 360/PS3 equivalent at the end of the show and it would have been megatons/game of the show/I'll buy Wii U for 1000 dollars!/ omg nintendo is back/ my body is ready/etc!
The fact that some people like games you don't really bothers you, huh?

Was that at Nintendo's conference? As for "E3 isn't just about the conference", the conference is where the manufacturer shows off what they think is most important, what people will find most interesting. So a bad conference means their best just isn't good enough.

Edit: that gif wasn't animating, so all I saw was "50 games in development"

Nope its from the old N64 promo video.

EDIT: Didnt realize the gif was so crazy with the colors when watching the video/making the gif. I'll take it down if its messing up anyone, since I remember how that one "laser fuuuuu" gif was banned. Or at least I think it was.

Being the nintendo fan boy that I am, I will say their conference didn't excite me :(

But ill be there day 1 for pikmin and p100. Maybe nintendo land also.

NSMB U almost definitely has AA, going by gameplay videos and the trailer. Might be the only one at E3 weirdly enough.

Then again I don't know if the pixel counters have said otherwise. *shrugs* But it's certainly impossible for me to make out any jaggies.

The fact that my shitty laptop can run NSMB Wii at 720p with 4xAA should be enough evidence that Nintendo can manage it on the Wii U.

I do expect less graphical glitches such as pop in and a smoother framerate in the final game.

Speaking of improvements of final versions over what's shown, if we assume a November system launch, what can 4-5 months of development do to a -launch- game?

I mean is it just a fine-tweeking-of-everything period or could major changes still occur?

Edit: And on an irrelevant note, was it reported that the "touch" part of Upad's screen was updated, resulting in a more "capacitive" feeling?

I don't really have anything to add beyond what many have said. The conference definitely felt disjointed and drawn out, like they were compensating for lack of content, so maybe they really did have some stuff pulled at the last minute. Regardless, I was left slightly baffled at Nintendo's choices for the presentation.

What I will say is, whacky Nintend prediction: NintendoLand is a primer for a reboot of a Takamura/Murasame Castle game. Aliens invade an ancient castle is kinda cool. Maybe even by Monolith Soft..either of those two pieces of concept art could fit.

Just you wait. Iwata will come out again like last before and say that he doesn't understand why the share price is falling. Then a few months later they will yet again say they have realised they need to support the core gamer with new, interesting IP's of high quality and tha western gamers put emphasis on visuals so we need to offer them that. Then another few months later when the Wii U is released we'll once against realise it's rhetoric.

I have a hat that I'm prepared to eat if it ends up otherwise, bit this last conference cements my opinion that Nintendo just doesn't get/care about adult/core/mature/western gaming.

Where are some interviews with Reggie or Nintendo staff? Did any journalists ask tough questions to them? I saw the interview on Spike TV and Reggie getting angry (lol) about Geoff calling Arkham Asylum the same game.

Don't you guys believe Nintendo will hold some kind of live streamed Fall Conference announcing the date, the price, the packaging (I'm assuming Console and Pad + Nintendo Land) and MAYBE SOME FUCKING ANNOUNCEMENTS ?

Don't you think guys ?

There will absolutely be that type of event. But will that event include announcements? I don't *think* the Wii one in 2006 did, but I could be wrong.

Reggie said in an IGN interview that we're not going to hear about Retro's new game for a long-ass time so there's that!

I expect that there'll be *some* 2013 game announced before the end of the year, but a Tokyo or Retro announcement isn't coming until GDC at the earliest.

I still think they should have done a price+launch+crazy game montage at the end of the conference.

I know fans of all 3 console companies need to calm down and realize that E3 isnt just about the conference, its about the entire week and even a little afterwards...but it still seems like companies have forgotten how to do attention grabbing montages.

Project-P, Mario U, ZombiU (actually looks and sounds like a great game), and Pikmin 3.

Darksiders II and AC III if you feel like waiting/they have unique worthwhile features over the other versions.

I don't think they've forgotten. MS and Sony just had nothing to show this year because it's the end of the generation, and I think Nintendo was trying to avoid overshadowing WiiU's launch games with games that are a year out. They probably think they made 3DS' launch line up appear weaker by announcing too many far off games and are trying to avoid repeating that. The problem is that gamers KNOW what Nintendo is making anyway, and the games in our imaginations are overshadowing these launch games even more than real games would have, lol.

Paging ShockingAlberto
he said that Retro's game was in a showable state and they created a demo... >_>

Lol, I can just imagine at the fall event they announce the price and launch date and then say "We are going to wait until E3 2013 to unveil anything else about the Wii U. Enjoy these launch window games until then."

Well I imagine they need one or two release between the launch window and E3, so unless they delay a launch window game or two (I wouldn't put it past them), they need to make announcements sometime.

Just went to the apple store app on my mac, and I see that apple is running an add that says "Better Together", is this a response to Nintendo's E3 conference mocking Nintendo's newly announced slogan? The add features a macbook air, iPad, and iPhone. Anyone know when this campaign appeared?

Maybe Nintendo is doing something right after all. This front page story about the wii u on the new york times website is exactly the kind of mainstream attention Nintendo is looking for.
http://www.nytimes.com/2012/06/07/a...g-game-system-wii-u.html?pagewanted=2&_r=1&hp

After reading that article I can see how casual gamers, particularly parents/families could be impressed by the wii u so far.

Said before, but one thing they have going for them is the continued use of Wii peripherals, making the casual market much more friendly to upgrading.

Damn New York Times. Don't encourage bad press conferences.

"We want people to play games longer and turn on the system more often, so the flagship of our console is a mini-game collection with zero announcements of any future titles, respectively."

Whether Nintendo shows the game two weeks from now, or six months from now, they pretty much have to diffuse the rabid fandom from "expecting the reveal" and being disappointed at a no show everytime Nintendo has a game event.

Me personally, I prefer seeing a game from EAD Tokyo. But you can not put a fanatic deadline on seeing a new game. Especially if it is a new intellectual property or a re-imagining. These things take time. Look at how long ICO/Shadow of the Colossus fans had to suffer.

Wasn't Nintendo 06 considered a bad conference by gamers but lauded by the mainstream press?

Calmed down after spending a lot of time not thinking about yesterday and last night. Still very disappointed in the the conference and what they decided to focus on but going to try to focus on the games and only that and just take things as they come. ZombiU and Lego City are games I do want to play. Will see if anything else pulls me in upon further review. Maybe give Assassin's Creed 3 a try. It might sound like I'm trying to justify buying at launch and that might be the case in the end.

At this moment, it's possible. Wii U doesn't seem a lot more powerful than current gen from what we have seen (which isn't much to be fair, though if you compare launch multiplats of Xbox 360 to Wii U it looks significantly more powerful).

So a port could maybe look a bit worse at this time before launch, especially with the added uPad functionality.

Heh, I think I saw that phrase when I bought something a few weeks ago. Pretty sure it's more of their version of "more items you may like" type of thing on other stores.

Guys, what about the rumored Kirby collection that was supposed to come out for Wii this year? No mention of this at all? Not even buried deep in a restricted web press release?

So, I looked back at the Wii launch and end of year lineup. Holy shit was it bad, especially for Nintendo- Zelda, Wii Sports, and Excite Truck.

THEY DIDN'T EVEN SHOW ANIMAL CROSSING

I'll take 1 brand new Zelda game over 10 3rd party ports any day, but that's just me.

and I don't disagree that WiiU's launch is actually pretty good - it just is lacking the knockout punch of a 3d mario, a new retro, etc.

Realistically, someone can go into WiiU launch and walkaway with 3-4 good games like AC3, NSMBU, Pikmin 3, ZombiU. I know at launch I don't buy more than 2 games, as it gets very expensive.

oh, and I'm pretty positive we are just waiting out the EA Sports and COD announcements. This would mean they are launching either the week of or before Blops2 most likely, which could be a big seller if they show a special version of it.

I think it's just particularly disappointing we do not have a single graphical showcase at the PC. Nintendo, despite having clearly the most powerful hardware (make no mistake, it is powerful), is terrified of anyone commenting on that aspect. They literally had to try to give a presentation/E3 that completely left everyone in the dark about the graphical capabilities of the machine. Like I said in the EA thread, they WAY overthought everything out.

Q: Last year at E3 you came on stage during Nintendo's unveiling of the Wii U and at this meeting you asked me to go back and look at what you said and you called it out that there is something special that EA is doing with Nintendo. And we haven't had an update about that if you can talk about what is going on with EA and the Nintendo Wii U.

A: We are very pleased that I think that the loudeset appluase was when Mass Effect 3 went up on the screen. We are very pleased that the audience, at least the audience here in LA, recognized that its the single best piece of software that will be available on the platform.

lmao

Reggie seems to be really proud of that Mass Effect 3 announcement. Apparently John Riccitiello was in the front row (why?) and Reggie said "he was smiling during the Mass Effect 3 part" during the Keighley inteview, I believe.

I imagine Riccitiello was smiling and saying "sucker..." under his breath.

Yeah, when you got either a mario or a zelda it's a system seller
