Nintendo 3DS Software Showcase [E3 2012] - Trolls, come see how it's done.

A cool thing is 2013 Q1&Q2 Nintendo games can show off at any times.

You may be coming home from work and ZING Layton 5 Trailer.

You check Neogaf after a school day and WHOA Zelda Trailer.

I like this idea.

Ah. I'm not saying these games don't look great, it's just they've looked great for a year now. Give me something else to look forward to.

I get that.

Just after yesterday I didn't expect anything more than getting to see games we've already seen again. They vaulted over that really low expectation.

Nintendo of America thought showing Threediots, a low budget comedy series that won't make them money, was more important than announcing Fire Emblem for 2013.

That's fucked up.

I just have simple question.

WHAT THE HELL WAS THIS FOR, NINTENDO!?

I guess I don't understand what the problem is here.

That 3DS lineup looks fantastic. While I understand that several of the big titles were either previously announced or announced last year, we're still getting a pretty damn good 2012 lineup for the system. Is it because of lack of surprises? Because E3 as a whole didn't have many of those. Fire Emblem? It probably wasn't shown because it wasn't localized yet.

I'm just as upset about yesterdays conference as any Nintendo diehard, but man, I feel like some people are just really trying hard to find reasons to hate them now. In fact, IMO, with FE, Code of Princess, and that 3DS lineup, I daresay that the 3DS wins E3.

Feel free to commence ripping me apart because I'm not furious.

I'm baffled at the absence of anything about Animal Crossing. Not even a logo on the screen, no mention, nothing. The last two AC games were near-simultaneous releases for Japan and NA so I was sure they'd be confirming it for this one today, but alas, not even a new trailer.

You have so much hope, I wish I had hopes and dreams like you did :( Nintendo is trolling us

Anyone complaining about the 3DS lineup needs to get a grip.

Nintendo is releasing Luigi's mansion, NSMB2 and Paper Mario later this year. Don't forget about the 2 pokemon games. Fire Emblem is coming, so there is no need to worry. And don't forget about 3d part games.

Hey Guys. People asking for games don't worry. Nintendo is releasing Mario Tennis, Mario Golf, and Mario Adventure. Don't forget about the old DS Pokekmon games.

Hey Guys. People asking for games don't worry. Nintendo is releasing Mario Soccer, Mario Hockey, and Mario Poker. Don't forget about the old DS Pokekmon games.

Hey Guys. People asking for games don't worry. Nintendo is releasing Mario Swimming. Mario Music, and Mario Party. Don't forget about the old DS Pokekmon games.

THE THIRD PARTY GAMES ARE CRAP. This is the most unbalanced barren line up ever.

that one guy who presented paper mario & NSMB was a boss

i wonder if nintendo just doesn't care about E3 anymore. maybe they think they can get better press by spacing out announcements.

Every year at E3. I look forward to the casual announcement of the next Layton game for release later in the year. Sometimes it's not even at the conference and just on their press materials on the site later. This year it looks like I'm getting nothing. Wtf. :(

I'm really sad now. ;_;

*pats on back*

It won't be okay, but hopefully the hurt will heal.

Nintendo released a Zelda game last year, so announcing a new Zelda game seems a bit premature. Animal Crossing is still being worked on, and will probably come out next year.

There is no reason to announce new games that won't even come out this year, when they have so many games already announced and aren't even out yet!!

Yeah the upcoming line-up is great. The problem is, we've known about that stuff for the past year now. Mention them, have them at the show floor and demo a couple during the presentation, fine. But when they make up the entire presentation, not leaving any time for new announcements and titles that haven't been heard of since their announcement? That's the problem.

As much as I love Kingdom Hearts for example, that game comes out in over a month and has been out in Japan for nearly 3. We've seen that game hundreds of times before, and I've seen that same god damn trailer, or similar versions, with that same music about 5-10 times in the past 2 weeks. Why show it again? Why spend time on it? Have it in a montage for goodness sake.

Yeah, for the past few years the announcement always comes after the presentation. Hoping we get that tonight or tomorrow. Otherwise this will be my first Fall in a long time with no Layton puzzles to play during bathtime...I mean during my manly showers.

Sheeesh. You know that it is coming, sooner or later. They are probably still localizing it. I wouldn't be surprised if it was announced at the fall conference.

AC isn't dated for Japan so it could easily be a case that it's not a holiday title and so they're not showing it.

But Layton is unusual, because it's a year old now, and because even accounting for NoA's not wanting to cause Layton burnout and pacing the releases at one per year, September-October would be the time to release Layton. And it's quite a popular series and skews definitely towards a mass market type of audience, so you'd figure it'd be a good candidate to mention.
My only thought is that Nintendo and Level 5's agreement was for Level 5 to take over publishing/localization duties for any 3DS titles but simply aren't ready to actually do so yet. But I really thought it was going to show up since the game was trademarked in May like each Layton title has been in years previous.

The conference was abysmal, underwhelming and Nintendo masterfully trolled but don't try and spin it as if all Mario games are alike.

But they just didn't show anything for the future. Just stuff we already saw yesterday and last year. The whole point of E3 is to show off NEW GAMES to generate hype.

Honestly? I don't think this is true anymore. :/

I think what we're seeing here is that all 3 major companies are content to release new information at their own pace, whether via magazine/online reveals or with their own dedicated events. All in all, it seems the impact of E3 in generating hype for unannounced games is slowly getting marginalized, or at least being redirected to a more mainstream audience. The main centerpieces of the three major conferences that were previously unannounced are, respectively, Smartglass, Wonderbook, and Nintendoland. That tells us all we need to know.

It's a strange disconnect I'm seeing, because people are legitimately angry that nothing new was shown, but standing back and looking, what we DO know about each console and their games is still pretty damn good in the short term. Yes, including Vita and Wii U.

Is this actually a problem with their approach, or is it a problem with our expectations?

I guess the real question is when will Nintendo talk about 2013 and why on earth are they holding off all announcements about it?

Obvious speculation is that they have nothing, but that is silly.

I understand some annoyance as Nintendo DID make it sound like new stuff was coming.
But this was a great thing.
Also the only difference between learning about FE after is that you don't hear the cheer.

I think Paper Mario just went to the top of the list for many people.

Nintendo better have new things for 3DS next E3. Thats all we can take away from this.
Not sure why we want to learn about something happening in 2 years anyway. We'd just get E3's like this one that were complaining about now!

Well NoE did pretty much just that last December for Layton and the Miracle Mask, does that help alleviate the sadness any?
