Nintendo 3DS Software Showcase [E3 2012] - Trolls, come see how it's done.

You know, when they showed that action figure at the beginning I thought they were going to announce a new game with it being the main character :(

EDIT - For the Simpsons gifs, can you make one with him making cereal and whatnot and it blowing up with the same captions?

Was there even a new 3DS game announced this E3? Most of what was presented are games we already know about some of which are years old, Where are the new announcements?

Like I said, I wasn't expecting much, but Iwata said there would be some evidence of Western support on 3DS at the last investors meeting.

Wasn't expecting him to follow through with that in anyway, personally. Western devs have and always will be about consoles. The Vita, which is clearly more geared towards "the audience that shall not be named", isn't even getting much of it any at all.

Wow, so not a single new 3DS game was announced at this year's E3...I think the only one was Scribblenauts, right? or was that known (or leaked) before?

You know I remember in the good old days they'd use these conferences to announce new games. Like last year and every year before that. Wii U must be running Nintendo low on resources and next-gen crunch time on 3rd parties in general.

In the Vita games thread, they just posted this official Sony cut trailer:

So, first things first
- Sony didn't show this at their conference, Sony also had a rough conference this year, LOL WONDERBOOK LOL, etc, etc.
- I really don't think that's a very impressive lineup at all. Despite the reactions in the thread being like "I thought Vita was in trouble but now seeing this video I'm much less worried", I think it's a pretty crummy lineup.

But my purpose of posting it here is to point out that a really simple sizzle reel like this that gives 5 seconds to each of 25 games goes a long way to tell people that a system has a wide variety of software. No, it's not an in depth look, but it might encourage people to remember a title or two and give them more of a look later.

If you actually look at the list of 3DS titles, first and third party, announced and not announced, it'd be pretty easy to cut a trailer like this for the 3DS. I don't think it'd change the narrative on gaming in newspapers or sell a million copies of anything, but it certainly couldn't hurt and I know it would assuage a lot of the instinctive complaints. I mean, again, you have a lot of people in this thread who are already pretty satisfied with the lineup for 2012, but they're not satisfied with how it was presented here. And I think it's pretty easy to satisfy those people, even if they're not the main objective or focus of Nintendo's E3 efforts this year.

No Layton OR Theatrythm? Really?

You would think Theatrythm would be incredibly easy to translate being that it's a music game...

Exactly. I'm not upset that there were lots of games they didn't give stage demos, I'm upset that there are lots of games that they didn't even acknowledge exist. Hell, Donkey Kong Country Returns got a thirty second announcement trailer, would it be so hard to give us some stuff like that this year?

...you're waiting for another price drop, less than a year and half into the system's life, after they've already dropped the price by $80 since launch? o.O

And just about every retailer is giving you a free $20-30 giftcard/game with purchase.

So Fire Emblem is confirmed by Reggie off-hand after the conference ends. Worst use of big news that would please your fans EVA.

You know he would say that to just please fans since it was such a letdown. I mean not terrible in terms of games but nothing new that was almost hinted at.

So they mention Fire Emblem just to try and salvage something. Reeks of desperation.

Just as much of an salvage thing as the Pikmin 3 announcement was. Now we will probably have to wait for the 3DS successor before we get it.

The worst part of the conference was when they showed Heroes of Ruin and the frame rate was godawful.

I wanted to like that game.

Honestly, the concept is cool, I'm glad to see nSpace alive, and it's nice to see SE publish a western-type RPG... but literally everything they've shown of it has been disappointing. Ugly, low framerate, dull looking gameplay :/

Yeah its been like that since the first reveal and I've been hoping it was just something they'd lock down closer to launch. It seems more and more likely the game will have an unbearable frame rate.

I'm overall quite satisfied with the 3DS software lineup...why the online hate?

Nintendo is looking to push hardware which I think this lineup looks to be doing well

Plus, Castlevania looks very good.

To be fair that reaction is not nearly as sensational as the post conference reaction. The "I'm selling my Vita" thing was a bit crazy. I will hand it to Nintendo supporters you guys stick to your system even in the midst of a lackluster showing.

Me personally I think both handhelds had a decent presence at E3. Vita I think has the slightly higher profile 3rd party games with AC3 and COD spinoffs and the AC3 Liberation Bundle is a strong statement, however, Nintendo had much higher profile 1st party showing.

3DS lineup is fantastic, most would agree. But there was an opportunity to announce some non-localized games, or new titles, which didn't happen. That's what people are upset about. Especially when they advertised needing an hour outside of their regular conference to show all their 3DS games.

I don't give a shit how they did it. I'm just happy to hear that Fire Emblem is coming.

....But really, how do they not mention it? Would have taken 3 seconds.

Personally thought the best part of the conference was Nate getting some stage time. He's always been a cool guy and even posted in the Smash Bros. Dojo topic before it closed. They need to let him present stuff more often.
