What do you think?disappointed in what?
Was not expecting shakey-cam. I really wish that wasn't in there.
Ebert is probably the only critic whose opinion I actively care about (even when I disagree). I'm so excited for Friday.
... Really?I have no idea which is why I asked.![]()
... Really?
All right, then... I may not always agree with him, but Ebert sounds like a fairly smart guy to me, and I hoped he would be among the ones calling Prometheus out for its lazy writing and sophomoric attempts at profoundness.

As Ebert says in his review, he's a sucker for movie concepts that hint at things beyond human comprehensibility, especially if they involve questions of science or humanity's place in the cosmos. I think he gave both Tree of Life and Watchmen four stars for similar reasons. He may have found the attempts at profundity somewhat less sophomoric than you did.... Really?

Again: what do you think?have you seen it?
It purported to be a science fiction movie about "big ideas", and I wouldn't say it achieved what it set out to do at all, there. In fact, it gets quite idiotic fairly often.Maybe he's not as quick to disdain a movie because it reaches for things it can't quite grasp. Or maybe he though it achieved what it set out to do fairly well.
I know, which is why I thought he'd be more critical...As Ebert says in his review, he's a sucker for movie concepts that hint at things beyond human comprehensibility, especially if they involve questions of science or humanity's place in the cosmos.
Apparently so, hence my disappointment. He may have found the attempts at profundity somewhat less sophomoric than you did.

Couldn't tell you: I watch far less than that, myself. But I know I've seen a bunch of far less pretentious movies doing a lot better in that area. It's "lazy" writing is better than 95% of the movies released today.
I enjoyed it's story. It's "lazy" writing is better than 95% of the movies released today.
So disappointing. So much potential wasted. It all felt underdeveloped and erred on the side of silliness when it should have been tense and horrifying. Cinematography and production design aside, i think it could have been executed better in pretty much every respect. The characters were the main issue. They were all so poorly realised other than David, who pretty much stole the movie, if only for Fassbender's performance.
Damn. What could have been. That's my main feeling upon leaving the cinema. :/
This is what I think to myself everytime I watch Sunshine. I hope this movie isn't like that for me.
Sunshine just ended in Event Horizon-style silliness, always ruins it for me - I like how Prometheus ended... though going by most of the impressions I think I'm in the minority![]()
Welp, I'm a fucking retard. Off home I go.The fuck? You're a day early.
That's exactly what i thought about Sunshine as well. This is what I think to myself everytime I watch Sunshine. I hope this movie isn't like that for me.

I'm finding I enjoy movies a lot more not reading threads, even after seeing it. No matter how entertaining or good you think a movie is, there are tons of people telling you how shitty it is.
Gaf movie threads, no one likes anything.
So, for those who've seen it, what's the main issue that they had with it? Wasted potential? I'm just trying to keep my expectations in check.

What the hell did I just watch? There has to be more, right? And some weird continuity choices. Alien/Aliens retain the throne.

Wasted potential, as in the movie had the potential to be truly brilliant, but was let down by a terrible script. There is a great movie in there. I'm fine with the basic plot, but so many parts are executed poorly, are tension-free and don't resonate the slightest bit - all as a result of of poor characterization and lack of build up.My main issue is with the pacing, it seems like the second half of the movie didn't get as much love/time as the first.
Wasted potential is a flaccid statement, there was nothing to waste and it's a solid and bold sci-fi flick. Wasted potential translates to "not what I wanted".
Those who dont like it, wait for director's cut, should change your mind with 20 more minutes, extended scenes and original cut.
I read that Scott wants to do a Prometheus 2. Wonder if he'll do that or the Blade Runner sequel first.

I think pre-production has already started on the Blade Runner sequel... but I'd really rather see this continued.
Blade Runner has always been it's own thing where as Alien has already seen so many variations that I don't mind seeing more (yes I realize the irony of this given BR's like 7 cuts.)
Are you sure this exists? Didn't Scott say that one being released in theaters is his director's cut?
