I haven't seen this yet, but to the people that didn't have a problem with the writing/plot... Did you think Inception was well written? From the reviews, I'm getting the feeling that thought provoking is being substituted for full of inconsistencies that force you to make up your own story.

Yeah, sorry: it's all subjective. Good writing, bad writing? Nah. No such thing.

So basically this movie is complete shit and no one should like it. Thanks.

I'll put your all encompassing opinions/(no, FACTS) about that in account and not see it.
Or if I do, I'll go in knowing I should hate it.
Cool.

Inception's writing was like 90% exposition and explanation. Its plot makes even less thematic sense than Prometheus, and there's even less to think about at the end. There are no themes to discuss in Inception except dream police, at least Prometheus breezes over creation, death, rebirth etc. Both have their macguffins, and annoying characters and hammy dialogue. Both don't let the script get in the way of the movie.

I said something factual: opinions are personal. That's why they're called opinions.
Indeed. And that's why I said it was a vacuous reply. You haven't said anything, there.
Unless you're arguing that the fact they're personal somehow means they couldn't/shouldn't be argued, in which case I'd disagree and point back to my reply above.

We'll see. I hope so.
Lots of vacuous lines.

Prometheus doesn't have bad writing.
It's been said a lot already, but for example,
when the shit hits the fan with those two guys, it's only because of some kind of perfect storm of stupidity.
One of them was in charge of those Google Maps orbs, but they still manage to get lost.
Nobody seems to be giving a fuck about two of their guys being stuck in an unknown extra-terrestrial facility for the night. Soon after freaking them out by telling them there might be a lifeform near them, the last guy to check on them just leaves them to their own devices to go and fuck Vickers.
They wanted to leave because they didn't want to enter that one big room with the urns, and they still go there anyway.
Naturally, one of the two guys starts smoking pot. In his suit, yes. And the other one starts playing with... yup, an alien lifeform. What could go wrong?
Oh, and it's not like you could record a video feed either, so the next morning, nobody knows what happened (nor where the two are, because they don't have beacons or anything like that... but the 3D map sure looks cool, so there's that!).
Holy shit.

If you don't mind shitty writing, you should be fine.

I'd say they both do, but that's just me.

...should all have had major consequences for crew dynamics and character interaction but these scenes are blown off and ignored within seconds and never raised again as if Scott and Lindelof just wanted to get past the bothersome story and script stuff and just kick off the Gods & Monsters action.
This is the main problem with the film. I kept waiting for a scene where we take a breather and the characters actually react to what is happening. It never happens.

Yeh, that's pretty bad haha.
"Here space cobra, come lick my hand." That whole part was just a horror cliche, it didn't spoil my enjoyment even though it didn't rewrite the rules of predictable tropes. I think the gung-ho copilots were terribly written characters, worse than the two noobs on the planet
. But on the whole I don't think the movie had bad writing. Not great, but not bad. Watching it again on Saturday so all might change now I know what to expect.

Prometheus doesn't have bad writing. Hellraiser VIII: Hellworld has bad writing. All this is subjective, and relative.

"YES...FATHER...."

Sounds like something George Lucas would write.

Exactly. Things just happen without any reaction to the events.

Yep. For instance when Elizabeth Shaw operates on herself to remove a monster from her stomach and then neglects to tell *anyone* what happened to her and blithely joins Weyland to visit the engineer. Doesn't make any sense on any level.

Or react to the character who inflamed her infected husband. Or respond to a creepy android spying on her dreams *and* intentionally poisoning her husband
It never gets picked up again, so I assume everyone are just automatons doing what the events and script are are dictating them to do.

Nobody asks what happened to her either, when she shows up. She's freaking out, almost naked, covered in blood, has a freaking huge scar on her belly, but nope. Let's offer her some tea.

Hey guys, someone from our crew just turned into a giant murder-beast! Let's never talk about that! Also, these two characters who were barely introduced are going to sacrifice themselves for no reason at the end.

A possible Director's Cut could atleast make some people happier. In an interview Charlize Theron confirmed one cut scene that fits the bill of "let's talk about what just happened".

Im lying in bed shaking with laughter trying not to wake the bf. It really was absurd.

Sure looks like the squid stayed in that room the whole time though. Guess the subject really never came up.
And wasn't there a scene where Elba's character was talking to Shaw about not wanting those crazy things to go home with them? That might have been a good time to mention the alien squid you left in Vickers' quarters, Shaw. No? Okay.

Too many spoilers!!

Anyways, going to see this tonight in Imax 3D. I have avoided spoilers, but I imagine the trailers I saw gave a little too much away. Hyped none the less.

I rarely go to movies in the theatre. Seeing this movie reminded me why. Christ what a disappointment this was, for all of the reasons mentioned in the thread. Waste of money.

haha, I saw that movie. Production value wise, it was like watching a Skinemax late night flick with Pinhead thrown in every now and then, lol. So bad.

I watched the film in IMAX the other day and I enjoyed it a lot! Reading through this thread though I can see why people are disappointed in the film, but as someone who has only seen Alien once and didn't really know what to expect from this, I thought it was pretty cool and I was pretty satisfied.

Just saw it. Visually absolutely stunning and the 3D was really great. Everything else felt thin, rushed at times. But the visuals... My god!

Cinefex's July issue is out next week. Pre-orders and subscribers will get the Prometheus cover, while Avenger's cover will be hitting shop stands. I'll be getting the Prometheus one :)

All of this. There aren't moments where these characters deal with the aftermath of any big events like people would. Once an important moment is over, whatever that moment is, all importance is lost because the movie doesn't treat it as something significant. This is exactly how I felt when I said it felt like "transitional" scenes were missing. Reactions, responses, character drama, logical aftermath scenes you'd expect from a movie looking for intensity.

If there was even slight characterization of the minor characters at the beginning, and a few of the much needed consequential scenes between the crew post-major events, this would've been a better experience even if it still left questions hanging.

Watched it last night in 3D and loved it. Gotta say the 3D was one of if not the best I've seen in 3D. It all made the experience that much better. I can't wait to get this again on release.

I watched Alien again today which was cool after seeing the prequel.

Where the fuck do you live that a 3d movie ticket costs $30, lol

Here in boston it's $14 and that includes the glasses.
