Counter-Strike: Global Offensive official site is live (kinda), beta starting today

So the recoil is... more like an actual gun? Why not have a CS that works that way? We already have 1.6.

Serious question. I'm not a CS pro.

tapping is slower than burst firing or just spraying. if the tapping recoil isnt better than burst recoil to make up for it being slower, then whats the point?

New game. Newer audience.

That said, I just got into the beta. YAY! It is installing but in my inventory there is a "send gift" button as well. Do everyone get a gift copy as well or am I mistaking something?

Yeah, you get two copies if I recall correctly.

I wouldn't mind one. :p

Everyone invited into the beta by Valve, yes.

I am going to check but I am sure you shouldn't be tapping in exactly the same way as 1.6 otherwise whats the point of the new game if you aren't going to learn anything right? I remember tapping is different in source so let us see if it is a little different this time as i saw a video the other day talking about how it is much easier to tap compared to previous updates in the last couple of months and I am sure the accuracy will be the same once you learn how to do it in CS:GO

Finally got my Beta access.
Played a bit with bots first and have to say that the game still feels like good ol' Counter-Strike, except I suck much more (probably because I haven't played any Counter-Strike game for roughly 3 years or more).

But this seems to bring me back to the game. Enjoying it so far :)

I got into the beta when it first came out, but I never got 2 extra invites for some reason. Haven't played it that much though, maybe like 5 hours tops.

Well what do you know.. I install Diablo 3 last night and this morning I have CS:Go in my inventory. Valve did it on purpose, I just know it.

Started playing again last night. The new movement speeds are night and day better. Wow, feels so much more empowering. Can't believe they thought the sluggish feeling was right in the first place.

Can only seem to handle short bursts of play before I get frustrated. Earlier in the beta I was just playing for hours. I guess that'll come back as I get better.

Enjoying office. Haven't really scoped out all the new changes.

New update is being super buggy here. Crashes whenever I connect to a server with 10 people and try to join. Cursor stops working after that. Still that way after disconnecting my gamepad.

First thing I noticed the moment I hopped in to my first game was that the movement feels kind of.... floaty.

Also the weapon mechanics seem to be very different to CSS. I tried tapping to shoot a few times and it seemed to work no better than spraying. Damn bullet sponges.

I think it might be coming from ArmA II and BF3 Hardcore has me expecting 1-2 hit kills.

I have been having a lot of fun playing though.

Also...

I'm an idiot. I have my steam library set on "Installed", because I tend to delete games I don't play anymore and the grayed out names only clutter my gamelist. I got a beta invite like two months ago and gave it away to a lucky gaffer. Until now I had not realized that I got an extra invite for my own use because it's in the not installed category.

So has the level design of this game been tweaked in console favor or PC? What I mean is that if the game was tweaked for PC you'd see much more vertical play, as consoles use analog sticks and thus are much slower. Is this apparent in the Beta?

Ugh I HATE super high recoil in games. I hope this doesn't seem to shot the way it seems to shot.

Just tried it again, wired 360 controller, when I go into options the controller setup is grayed out, launched an offline game real quick and no controller movement at all, k/m works fine.

Guess I'll just keep checking for when its enabled.

Why not just play CS 1.6? ...serious question.

1. New new content.

2. hard to find a good server. Most servers have weapon restrictions, weird mods, server redirects, and only run dust2/office

3. Crappy interface for finding games, no matchmaking, no competitive mode. (You would need to rent your own server to reliably play competitive matches)

4. Stale playerbase, no new players so the community is stagnant

Interview with Chet at E3:

A quick type up from reddit:

$15 so it is accessible and tempting for the CS 1.6/ CS:S community to move over

Talking about DotA 2's f2p model and how they don't think it would fit with CS:GO

Reassurance that Hidden Path will continue to release updates after release

Potential DLC may be worked on in the future - no specifics

New update will supposedly feature better sound than ever before in CS (Either this week's update or next)

At 14:38 of the video:

Q: Some were saying that directional sound is not...

A: Oh they are going to be excited. It's going to be better than ever. I don't know if that patch is going out this week or not... But you will have more control over your sound, how it works, and the feedback you get than ever before. And I'm dead on.

Directional sound doesn't mean much to me because it's too realistic. I've seen youtube videos where they go "listen for the footsteps" and the volume levels required to actually hear them would make you go deaf from the gunfire. If that's the sacrifice they want to make for a few more kills, they can have it.

Additional notes from the interview:

For the PC version, free to play did not make sense to implement for the game.
For the PC version, there will be ELO ratings per player, per team, per clan, and per Steam group.
Valve can remove tracers at anytime, but they want to experiment with it.
Valve wants to experiment with the recoil and the experiment will continue after the release of the game.

Since the game date/price are announced does anyone know if they are putting the game up on steam for pre-order (with possible beta access)?

I haven't had any luck getting into the beta so far :/
