Prometheus is poorly written but it has NOTHING on the cat scene from Alien.

It's pretty hilarious how a robot is the most fleshed out character in the entire movie.

Yeah, David was actually a pretty good character concept. They should have made him the lead character, instead of
putting him in the background as a plot device character to do random shit to start up shit. :(

Here's what I didn't like about the intro scene: it spoils stuff later in the film.

We know what the engineers look like, so the suspense when the helmet was being opened was shot since we knew what was in it. And it ruined the suspense about what would happen to that guy that had the goo dripped in his wine by David, since we saw what it does. Both scenes would play better without the prologue included; plus, I didn't feel it added anything to the film.

Just to add to this:

It totally undercuts the "OMG the Space Albinos totally have human DNA!" revelation later in the film because the movie already showed us that in the intro

It's a neat scene that would probably work better as a reveal later in the film when we can discover things alongside the characters and we have a bit more context for the scene and nobody would have an excuse for being confused about it.

Alien and Aliens are two of my favorite movies of all time. This is the most excited I have been for a movie since the dark knight premier. This ended up being the single greatest disappointment of my natural born life. Horrible movie. I'd say this movie does more damage to the franchise than AvP, Resurrection or the rest of the stuff after Aliens. Somebody please take Blade Runner from this man. Nothing here even felt like a Ridley Scott movie. Prometheus was truly Scott Free.

Your post made me laugh because it's so unbelievably melodramatic.

Man the reviews are mixed on here. I'll most likely be seeing it anyway since I got a free ticket from amazon. So is it a horror movie? I'm not really a fan of things like jump scares or anything like that.

No jump scares. It's not a horror movie. It's more of a scifi exploration mystery film, with some tense moments later on.

Just came back I am a little disappointed by it, Should have seen it in 3D since everyone is talking highly about that part.

I enjoyed the movie, all the character motivations were clear to me, it introduced new concepts of horror in film, the plot was pretty straight forward and the visuals were beautiful.

The hyperbole in here is insane. I went in expected to be disappointed and I ended up entertained. There's nods to Alien visually and some of the shots are what you could only get from a Ridley Scott sci-fi film, which is something to be slightly excited about at the very least. To say that Ridley Scott is absent is nonsense. One segment of the film in particular is fantastic.

Your mind won't be blown, it isn't among the best of the genre unlike his previous two sci-fi films but I was constantly interested in what was going to happen next. It's a step in the right direction, and at the very least it respects the original Alien unlike everything since Aliens. What it gives you may or may not sit well with you, but don't read too much in to opinions here is what I would say. However it is true that those who think it is good still have to deal with elements of disappointment, but such is life.

Hope Scott moves forward with Blade Runner 2.

The movie should have just been about understanding humanity via the lens of Shaw and David. Those were the only needed characters, maybe Elba as well.

Like I stated in the spoiler thread, this would be a much more interesting Blade Runner movie than it is as an Alien movie. Scratch the xenomorphs and flesh out David and bam you have a much better film.

If David is the best thing about Prometheus, which he is, then surely that gives us something to be excited about with regards to a Blade Runner sequel?

Blade runner was boring as hell

Not disagreeing with that. As long as Lindelof doesn't touch it with his filthy filthy hands.

Of course Ridley himself hasn't inspired confidence either with recent comments both with Prometheus and the original Blade Runner.

He won't. I read an interview with him basically saying that he wouldn't write the Prometheus sequel and I seriously think that given his track record he loves asking questions but doesn't have the ability or confidence to answer them. And when he has to answer them what we get isn't really logical. He does some things well - but he wouldn't be right for Blade Runner. Few people would. It's all great ideas but no way connect them, or to follow through on their initial promise. Which really, more often than not is the most important part.

But people liked Ben in Lost! He's like a sexy Ben!
And I agree that the
"android not particularly impressed by his creators"
thing was a nice basis for a character. There was some potential, there. Wrong movie though.

The line had with Holloway
"Because we could"

What if your creator told you that?
made me smile and tingle because it's so fucking true. One of the great scenes altogether in the movie.

Saw it, enjoyed it. It has issues but it was fun. Its no Alien or Blade Runner certainly. Maybe the DC will fix some stuff.

real 3D was pretty good. But honestly I find the whole thing distracting and gimmicky.

One of the worst posts I have ever read. It was offensively stupid.

<3

Everyone's standards are just all over the place. There's so much back and forth going on in this thread, page after page of people declaring 'masterpiece' or 'disaster', never coming close to seeing eye to eye. Not much is being accomplished. =\

It was an ok movie, certainly not better than the Alien movies. All 4 of them. Alot of stuff seems to happen just because or to move the plot and some stuff happens ending up being really pointless
the zombie/monster guy outside the ship
I also agree cutting the first 2 minutes of the movie would have added alot more suspense and surprise later on for key scenes.

All i have to say is

"DAVID!! Stop fucking touching things!"

I enjoyed the movie but my understanding of Alien colored my viewing experience. I was a bit confused on the role of the snake things,
what happened to the first guy who got a snake in the mouth (i thught it laid an egg in him but no follow up) and why the geologist just showed up in zombie mode
.

I understand what you mean by that but you shouldn't defend that post. Horrible hyperbole, even if the movie is actually bad.

Agreed, I saw it in a trailer or clip somewhere before I saw the movie but when I saw the scene in its entirety at last night's showing I enjoyed it even more. Great scene.

Like I'm not mad for going and seeing this and I did enjoy it just alright, but man what a massive disappointment.

Oh what could have been.

I just wanted to thank many in this thread for keeping my expectations low.

I freaking loved it. One of the best sci-fi flims I've seen. As a HUGE Alien/Aliens fan I'm more then happy with it and will proudly put the bluray next to my Anthology box.

Saw it in IMAX 3D, midnight showing. Massive disappointment. Beautiful visuals with completely moronic characters and terrible writing that tries to beat you over the head with everything.

Totally agree. There's just too many questions like this that add up. They make a whole bunch of assumptions

It seems like a lot of people were expecting Alien. I appreciated that Ridley didn't try to make that film again and gave Prometheus it's own identity. It's action/sci-fi and I have no problem with this.

Calling the film a 'disaster' without any other fun modifying adjectives is too hyperbolic for GAF? Oh boy. I guess I'll keep my opunions to myself.

No, I didn't mean the disaster thing. One of the worst movies he has ever seen is the problem.

One of the best? What? Smh
