Time Travelers (Level5, 3DS/PSP/Vita) - Dated in Japan

Literally can't wait for this game. I hate playing Visual Novels because, well, there's only images to look at and it looses my attention after a short time. but full 3D environments, oh my god take me now

Looks nice. Will grab the Vita version...probably. But I have a feeling I'm going to get burned for the 5th, 6th or 7th time for buying an L5 game.

So I was looking at the official site, and the "gameplay" section is hilarious. Right now the only thing they're showcasing are QTEs. With the entire "FULL VOICE" and "FULL MOTION" and "HIGH PRODUCTION VALUES" thing, I'm honestly starting to feel that this is less of a VN/ADV, and really more of a Heavy Rain clone by people who used to make VN/ADVs. I mean honestly, it's not really that different, other than presentation and production values.

I think it's the best possible solution to avoid boredom while reading and listening to their conversations. I can't think of any other way to 'play' these kind of games.

I was not expecting a heavily modern anime design. Oh well, I'm still excited for the game. I was just wanting a more classic chrono trigger feel.

???

It can't be, I'm not violently ill looking at it. In fact, it has actual personality, so that's two reasons it ain't heavily modern anime design.

but i will buy, my vita card is not full!

HOLY CRAP this is the game I remember from my childhood arcade. This has been driving me crazy for 20 years.

No troll, but are people just really excited for this because of the music and art style or something? Because the game itself looks kinda boring, like Asura's Wrath without the insanity.

I've seen nothing outside of the stuff in this thread, though. Maybe there's more.

Interesting. With respect, if the 1st comparison you arrive at Asura's Wrath, this game/genre may not be for you.

Think a Chunsoft-style visual novel combined with Level-5's pop cultural tastes and 32-bit-era graphic adventure games (which, true, survive today in forms that include Asura's Wrath and Heavy Rain).

I don't have much of a taste for the 1st and 2nd separately, but the combination has me really interested. (Typically, Level-5's handheld games are phenomenal because they marry modern Japanese children's culture with top-notch gameplay ideas and aesthetic choices. Yokai Watch does that AND picks 1 of the few of the few low culture Japanese things I like, Tatsunoko-heyday-era television. I really hope that succeeds.)

I can't speak for anyone else, but I'm excited about it because I've loved Chunsoft's sound novels, especially 428, and this is by the same guy.

Anyway, this game is clearly not a visual novel. It's an adventure game with QTEs and fully acted scenes and stuff.

I'll be honest, the only reason this was ever on my radar was Jiro Ishii's ridiculously good reputation. But the aesthetics and voices are more off-putting than I expected, the characters seem uninteresting, and the scenario descriptions from all those andriasang articles seem kinda dumb. It wasn't likely to be released in English anyways but it's just not doing it for me sadly.

I'm around 2-3 hours in and my feelings for the game are a bit of a mixed bag.
First, what I don't like:
- The pacing is a bit off. Too many jumps and not all timelines are really interesting.
- It might be me, but I have a feeling that the framerate has it problems when showing a lot of stuff. I mean small slowdowns, nothing big. Vita version here, btw.
- Lip sync isn't always top notch.

What I did like:
- The premise is interesting and the story is getting more and more entertaining.
- Character models look really good.
- Full voice over of all spoken lines. This doesn't mean all lines though, since there's a lot of "thinking" like in all visual novels.

I'm only about an hour and a half into it so far, but I'm digging it quite a bit.

As Keii said, the lip syncing can be hit or miss and the framerate sometimes stutters. Nothing game breaking though.

Pacing can be a little weird because of the frequency with which you're jumping between timelines.

Visually though this is a really good looking game. I'm a big fan of visual style and the story itself is very interesting and well thought-out.

Everything is voiced save for narration and internal dialogue.

It also borrows much more from visual/sound novels than you might expect. It fines a nice balance between constantly moving characters and still ones.

The whole game has furigana above all the kanji characters, which is a nice touch.

Music is also good and I dig the Back to the Future references.

I can't afford it right now and it's killing me. Hopefully I'll get it sooner rather than later, though. I need more Ishii in my life.
